The major purpose of this study was to find the influencing factors in explaining information search patterns and to find if significant differences exist in search outcomes by search patterns. The data for this study were collected in a survey conducted in March of 1993. The final sample consisted of 327 respondents purchased refrigerator 340 purchased bed. The important findings of this study are as follows: First The variables related to search cost-benefit play an important role in identifying search patterns of consumers. Second search outcomes were different among four information search patterns for each of information sources. The overall search outcomes the level of purchase knowledge and of post-purchase satisfaction was relatively high for high-search and high-reliance group compared with other groups. And the results also indicate that although some consumers search less than others they still can make good purchase decision-making and can maximize their utility if they choose useful information sources selectively and use those selected information sources effectively. The findings of this study provide some implications regarding consumer education programs the consumer information providing policies and future research methods.

In this paper, we propose a method for predicting a user's location based on their past movement patterns. There is no restriction on the length of past movement patterns when using this method to predict the current location. For this purpose, a modified search tree has been devised. The search tree is constructed in an effective manner while it additionally learns the movement patterns of a user one by one. In fact, the time complexity of the learning process for a movement pattern is linear. In this process, the search tree expands to take into consideration more details about the movement patterns when a pattern that conflicts with an existing trained pattern is found. In this manner, the search tree is trained to make an exact matching, as needed, for location prediction. In the experiments, the results showed that this method is highly accurate in comparison with more complex and sophisticated methods. Also, the accuracy deviation of users of this method is significantly lower than for any other methods. This means that this method is highly stable for the variations of behavioral patterns as compared to any other method. Finally, 1.47 locations were considered on average for making a prediction with this method. This shows that the prediction process is very efficient.

이 연구는 이미지 특성 범주와 관련하여 질의 재구성 패턴을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구 목적을 수행하기 위해서 Excite 웹검색 엔진 로그 데이터가 사용되었으며, 총 592 세션과 2,445 질의어가 분석되었다. 데이터 분석은 Batley의 정보 형태 구분과 선행 연구에서 밝혀진 팻싯과 서브팻싯을 활용하여 수행되었다. 분석결과는 두가지 형태로 구분하여 제시되었다. 첫째, 질의 재구성에 관한 분석결과이다. 질의 분석 결과, 가장 많은 부분을 차지하는 범주는 특정어(specific)와 지칭어(nameable)이며, 이러한 경향은 다양한 정보 탐색 단계에서도 지속적으로 나타났다. 둘째, 질의 재구성 패턴과 관려하여, 평행이동이 가장 많이 나타났으며, 이러한 경향은 최초 혹은 직전 질의 범주에 따라 근소한 차이를 보였다. 범주 전환 분석에서는 높은 비율(60%-80%)로 검색 질의의 범주가 지속적으로 동일한 범주에 머무르는 경향을 밝혀내었다. 이러한 결과는 이미지 검색 시스템 설계와 구현에 있어서, 이용자의 질의 선정 과정에 도움을 제공하고 효과적인 시소러스 구축 등에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

하루에도 수백만 건 이상의 방대한 질의어가 입력되는 검색엔진을 통해 인터넷 검색 패턴을 분석하는데 활용될 수 있는 질의어 분포의 정상성을, Pareto 분포와 Zipf 모형을 이용해 검토하였다. 실제2주일간의 일간 검색어 분포를 Pareto 모형으로 적합 시킨 결과, 그 기울기가 1.33에서 1.34 정도로 일관되게 측정되고 있어 Pareto 분포를 이용해 일간질의어 분포의 정상성을 평가할수 있음을 제시하였다. 이런 연구결과는 사회적 관심사와 그 변동 흐름을 해석하는데 보다 객관적이며, 효율적인 자료를 제공해 줄 수 있을 것이다.

Motion estimation plays an important role for video coding. In this paper, we derive optimal search patterns for fast block matching motion estimation. By analyzing the block matching algorithm as a function of block shape and size, we can find an optimal search pattern for initial motion estimation. The proposed idea, which has been verified experimentally by computer simulations, can provide an analytical basis for the current MPEG-2 proposals. In order to choose a more compact search pattern for BMA, we exploit the statistical relationship between the motion and the frame difference of each block.

웹 환경에서 사용자들의 정보검색 패턴을 얻어내기 위해 흔히 로그 파일의 정보검색 패턴을 분석하는 기존 연구들이 있어 왔다. 이들에서 흔히 사용하는 방법은 경로 순회 패턴(path traversal patterns)에서 효율적으로 빈번 패턴(frequent patterns)을 찾아내는 알고리즘을 제안하는 것이다. 하지만 이들의 기존 연구의 가장 일반적인 문제점들 중의 하나는 일반적인 패턴 즉, 복잡한 형태 패턴(topological patterns)에 대한 적절한 해답을 찾아주지는 못한다는 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 일반적인 패턴 유형을 정의하고 이들로부터 정보검색 패턴을 알아내는 효율적인 알고리즘을 제안하고자 한다.

기존의 웹 검색 엔진들은 사용자의 검색 의도를 충분히 반영하지 못하기 때문에 사용자가 원하는 정확한 정보를 찾기가 어렵다. 따라서 최근에는 개인의 검색 패턴을 분석하여 검색에 반영함으로써 검색 결과에 대한 만족도를 높이기 위한 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 이러한 개인화 검색을 통해 사용자는 방대한 웹상의 정보들 중 자신의 검색 의도에 보다 적합하고 정확한 정보를 획득할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 웹 사용자들의 질의어 사용 빈도수(Frequency)에 대한 랭킹 정보를 통해 최근 주요 관심사(Interest)를 파악하고, 주요 관심사 별로 형성된 커뮤니티(Community)를 기반으로 수행되는 개인화 검색 방안을 제안한다. 실험결과 질의어 빈도수, 관심사 및 커뮤니티를 검색에 반영할 경우 개인의 검색 의도에 보다 적합한 검색 결과가 제공되는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

본 연구는 온라인 데이터베이스 이용자와 비이용자의 선행 정보탐색이 이용자 만족도에 끼치는 영향에 관하여 알아보기 위해 시도되었다. S대학 학생들의 도서관 시스템 이용 행태를 분석해봄으로써, 도서관의 정보서비스 및 시스템 점검과 효율성 측정 그리고 이용자 만족도를 높이기 위해 고려해야 할 사항들을 파악해보는데 목적이 있다. 그 결과 온라인 시스템을 이용하는 이용자가 이용하지 않는 이용자 보다 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 이용자들의 요구를 만족시키기 위하여 다양한 정보 접근점을 제공해야 할 것으로 생각된다.

This study was intended to find the use patterns of internet search engines of librarians and to measure the relationship between internet use frequency and the use behavior of internet search engines. The results showed that librarians use Web search engines for academic information retrieval and are satisfied with the search results. The major problems when librarians use search engines were that search engines retrieve many non-relevant documents. As a result of hypotheses test, the relationship between internet frequency and the preference of search engines was not significantly different. On the other hand, the hypotheses that internet frequency affects satisfaction of search results, recognition of importance of search engines, and the need of retraining of librarians for internet information retrieval were shown to be significant.
