  • A completely randomized growth curve model was defined by Zerbe(1979). We propose the fully significant difference procedure for multiple comparisons of completely randomized growth curve model. The standard F test is useful tool to multiple comparisons of the completely randomized growth curve model. The proposed method is applied to experimental data.

  • The Bradley-Terry model is widely used for analysis of pairwise preference data. We explain that the popularity of Bradley-Terry model is gained due to not only easy computation but also some nice asymptotic properties when the model is misspecified. For information retrieval required to analyze big ranking data, we propose to use a pseudo likelihood based on the Bradley-Terry model even when the true model is different from the Bradley-Terry model. We justify using the Bradley-Terry model by proving that the estimated ranking based on the proposed pseudo likelihood is consistent when the true model belongs to the class of Thurstone models, which is much bigger than the Bradley-Terry model.

  • Using a rich resource language to classify sentiments in a language with few resources is a popular subject of research in natural language processing. Burmese is a low-resource language. In light of the scarcity of labeled training data for sentiment classification in Burmese, in this study, we propose a method of transfer learning for sentiment analysis of a language that uses the feature transfer technique on sentiments in English. This method generates a cross-language word-embedding representation of Burmese vocabulary to map Burmese text to the semantic space of English text. A model to classify sentiments in English is then pre-trained using a convolutional neural network and an attention mechanism, where the network shares the model for sentiment analysis of English. The parameters of the network layer are used to learn the cross-language features of the sentiments, which are then transferred to the model to classify sentiments in Burmese. Finally, the model was tuned using the labeled Burmese data. The results of the experiments show that the proposed method can significantly improve the classification of sentiments in Burmese compared to a model trained using only a Burmese corpus.

  • The traditional crop productivity simulations based on crop models are normally site-specific. To simulate regional crop productivity, the spatial crop model is developed in this study by integrating Geographical Information System (GIS) with Erosion Productivity Impact Calculator (EPIC) model. The integration applied a loose coupling approach. Data are exchanged using ASCII or binary data format between GIS and EPIC model without a common user interface. The spatial EPIC model is conducted to simulate the average corn and wheat productivity of 1980s in North China. The results show that the simulation accuracy of the spatial EPIC model is acceptable. The simulation accuracy can be improved by using the detailed crop management information, such as irrigation, fertilizer and tillage schedule.

  • The present study was based on developing an AI based model to facilitate the academic registration needs of blind students. The model was developed to enable blind students to submit academic service requests and tasks with ease. The findings from previous studies formed the basis of the study where functionality gaps from the literary research identified by blind students were utilized when the system was devised. Primary simulation data were composed based on several thousand cases. As such, the current study develops a model based on archival insight. Given that the model is theoretical, it was partially applied to help determine how efficient the associated AI tools are and determine how effective they are in real-world settings by incorporating them into the portal that institutions currently use. In this paper, we argue that voice-activated personal assistant (VAPA), text mining, bag of words, and case-based reasoning (CBR) perform better together, compared with other classifiers for analyzing and classifying the text in academic request submission through the VAPA.

  • We propose a simple nonparametric estimator of relative risk in the two sample case of the proportional hazards model for complete data. The asymptotic distribution of this estimator is derived using a functional equation. We obtain the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator and compare with Begun's estimator by confidence interval through simulations.
