IoT 기반 스마트 홈카메라 이용환경에서의 프라이버시 패러독스 현상에 관한 연구: 사용경험 비교연구를 중심으로 (A Study on the Privacy Paradox in the IoT-based Smart Home Camera Usage Environment: Focusing on a Comparative Study of User Experience)

  • Recently, as personal information utilization devices such as IoT, artificial intelligence, and wearable devices that focus on the individual have spread, privacy violations are also increasing. However, the privacy paradox of providing personal information to enjoy services while worrying is getting stronger. However, there are still preliminary studies on this. In this study, an intelligent home camera based on IoT technology was selected as a research object, and whether privacy paradox exists in the IoT environment, including smart home camera, was studied. To this end, the effect of perceived usefulness, a benefit factor of smart home camera use, and privacy concern, a risk factor, on intention to use was verified. In addition, it was investigated whether the relationship between privacy concerns and intention to use differs according to the presence or absence of use experience. In order to verify the research model, a survey was conducted with people with and without experience in using smart home cameras, and a total of 298 data samples were used for statistical analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that both perceived usefulness and privacy concerns had a positive effect on the intention to use, proving that privacy paradox exists in the IoT-based smart home camera environment. In addition, by analyzing the fact that privacy concerns have different effects on usage intentions depending on the user experience, it was verified that those with experience have a strong privacy paradox and those without experience have a weak privacy paradox. This study is meaningful because it seeks strategic implications to improve service and business performance by understanding the relationship between privacy attitudes and behaviors of IoT service providers, including smart home cameras.

Information Sharing on Blogosphere: An Impact of Trust and Online Privacy Concerns

  • Blog have become very popular with Internet users as one of the latest forms of online communication as well as knowledge sharing tools. However, blogs generate growing concerns regarding information privacy issues. This study, based on social exchange theory, presents results about bloggers' information sharing behavior. The 157 surveys are collected from a large university in the eastern U.S. The survey results indicate that trust which has four second order factors: economy based trust, trust in reciprocity, trust in other bloggers and trust in social interaction positively affects bloggers' information sharing behavior. However, online information privacy concerns have a negative impact on the relationship between trust and bloggers' information sharing behavior.

Privacy Concerns of Smart Speaker Users in South Korea: A Text-mining Analysis

  • Smart speakers represent a growing product in home electronics. However, their capability to record voices in their immediate surroundings has spurred concerns about privacy violations. In this paper, we assess the extent of those concerns in the opinions of smart speaker users by examining the reviews posted by smart speaker users. We focus on South Korea as a representative of advanced Asian economies. The results show that Korean smart speaker users are either unconcerned or unaware of privacy issues, confirming the results of previous studies about UK users, but with an even lower degree of interest in the topic. However, for the few users concerned about privacy, their attitude towards privacy influences their overall opinion about smart speakers.

소셜네트워크서비스에서 집합적 효능감이 이용자들의 자기노출에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Collective Efficacy on Self-Disclosure in Social Network Services)

  • With the development of information technology, social network services (SNS) such as Facebook and Twitter became popular and many users disclose their personal and sensitive information like private story, photographs and location information through posting and sharing. Despite the privacy concerns in SNSs, individuals continue to disclose their identity online. This phenomenon is called 'privacy paradox'. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of collective efficacy on self-disclosure in SNS context and to explain privacy paradox phenomenon. Drawing upon the communication privacy management theory, research model was developed and empirically tested with cross-sectional data from 306 individuals. Results revealed that collective efficacy has a direct positive effect on self-disclosure while privacy risk is negatively related to self-disclosure. However, privacy concern is not directly related to self-disclosure. The relationship between privacy concern and self-disclosure was moderated by collective efficacy.

마이데이터 이용자의 프라이버시 태도와 보호의도에 관한 연구: 프라이버시 냉소주의의 영향 (A Study on Privacy Attitude and Protection Intent of MyData Users: The Effect of Privacy cynicism)

  • 이 연구는 마이데이터 이용자의 프라이버시 태도와 보호의도에 대한 프라이버시 냉소주의 4개 차원(불신, 불확실성, 무기력, 체념)의 영향 관계를 분석했다. 연구결과, 마이데이터 이용자의 인터넷 활용능력은 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원 중 '체념'에 통계적으로 유의미하게 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 프라이버시 위험은 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원 중 마이데이터 사업자에 대한 '불신', 프라이버시 통제에 대한 '불확실성' 및 '무기력'에 긍정적 영향을 준다. 셋째, 프라이버시 염려는 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원인 '불신', '불확실성'에 통계적으로 유의미한 긍정적 영향, '체념'은 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석됐다. 넷째, 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원의 '체념'은 프라이버시 보호의도에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 종합하면, 마이데이터 이용자의 인터넷 활용능력은 프라이버시 냉소주의를 완화할 수 있는 변인이나, 프라이버시 위험과 프라이버시 염려는 프라이버시 냉소주의를 강화하는 변인으로 나타났다. 프라이버시 냉소주의 중 '체념'은 프라이버시 염려를 상쇄시키고, 프라이버시 보호의도를 낮춘다. 이는 프라이버시 노출에 대한 위험 또는 염려의 상황에서 프라이버시 냉소주의가 이러한 상황을 벗어나게 하는 인지적 메커니즘으로 기능한다는 기존 연구 결과들을 뒷받침한다.

The role of corporate image and privacy concerns in adopting online travel services

  • Purpose This study examines the role of corporate image and privacy concerns in intention to use of online travel services using data from Vietnam. Design/methodology/approach The data collection was implemented to a student sample at the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, which has a high concentration of young people who are interested in online travel in Vietnam. The paper based questionnaire was directly delivered to the respondents. After sorting to eliminate unfit samples, the number of responses was 541, which exceeds 500, the minimum number typically required. To test the hypotheses, we applied structural equation modeling (SEM) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the reliability and validity of constructs in the model. We also used direct, indirect and total effect coefficient to evaluate the total impact of factors on the intention to use online services. Findings This study found that corporate image is positively associated to intention to use online services. It found a link between corporate image and privacy concerns, which suggests another way for firms to address their customers' privacy concerns; corporate image, which has received great attention in traditional offline sales channels, but not in online services, should receive higher attention in IS research. Online travel businesses, besides increasing ease of use, perceived usefulness and trust in their services, should focus on build a reliable corporate image, which can not only promote the service use but also help to eliminate users' the privacy concerns.

Examining Factors that Determine the Use of Social Media Privacy Settings: Focused on the Mediating Effect of Implementation Intention to Use Privacy Settings

  • Social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook lead to potential security risks, which consequently raise public concerns about privacy. However, most people rarely make active efforts to protect their personal data, even though they have shown increasing concerns about privacy. Therefore, this study examines the factors that determine social media users' behavior of using privacy settings and testifies the existence of privacy paradox in such a context. In addition, it investigates the mediating effects of implementation intentions on the relationship between intentions and behaviors. In the study, we collected data through questionnaires, and the respondents were undergraduate and graduate students in South Korea. After a pilot test (n = 92) and a set of face-to-face interviews, 266 usable responses were retrieved for data analysis finally. The results confirmed the existence of the privacy paradox regarding the use of social media privacy settings. And the implication intention did positively mediate the relationship between intention and behavior in the context of social media privacy settings. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first in the information privacy literature to introduce the notion of implementation intention which is a much more powerful explanation and prediction of actual behavior than the (behavioral) intention.

협업적 의사소통을 통한 B2C 웹사이트 정보 프라이버시 보호 활동의 성과에 관한 연구: 장기 관계적 성과 관점을 중심으로

  • The purpose of this research is to identify effect of communication strategy as effectively communication method which is decreasing Internet Web site users' perceived information privacy concerns as important factor affecting to positive behavior or behavioral intentions on long-term relational outcome perspectives. This study suggests alternatives concepts and causal relationship about information privacy issues. First, it addressed collaborative communication strategy (CCS) model of effective communication method for Web site's IPP to users. Second, it provided comparing and integrating streams of information privacy research on long-term relational outcomes perspective. Third, it assessed effectiveness of Web site's IPP on organization legitimacy ensured continuous survival of organization. A research model was proposed and subsequent hypotheses were empirically tested with partial least square (PLS) based on 684 responses from the users of 21 Internet Website among entirely finance, recruit, portal /e-store Web site. It was learned that CCS(as a communication method) and relationship quality(representing long-term relational outcomes)was positively associated with decreasing user's IPC more than privacy risk. Also, legitimacy to information privacy practice positively associated with willingness to information providing more than negative effect of IPC. Lastly, their association strength was partially moderated by the type of real information sensitivity.

  • 정보기술의 발달로 방대한 고객정보를 확보할 수 있게 되었지만, 이와 더불어 고객정보를 수집하고 활용함에 있어 다양한 정보보안의 문제가 발생되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 정보보안 우려감의 개념을 기반으로 소비자 정보보안 우려감과 소비자의 개인적 특성(자기효능감, 디지털활용능력, 소비자소외감), 그리고 고객만족도 및 구매의도 간 상관관계를 검증하고자 한다. 학술적으로 본 연구는 정보보안 우려감의 개념과 측정방식을 규명하여 실증모형 검증으로 확장하였다는 의의가 있으며, 실무적으로 이러한 정보보안우려감의 개념을 기반으로 온라인 쇼핑몰 공급자들은 고객의 정보보안우려감을 완화할 수 있는 방법을 개발할 수 있을 것으로 본다.

의료정보 프라이버시 염려에 대한 근거이론적 연구: 전자건강기록(EHR) 시스템을 중심으로 (Medical Information Privacy Concerns in the Use of the EHR System: A Grounded Theory Approach)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 전자건강기록(EHR) 시스템을 통해 환자 개인의 의료정보가 활용되고 공유되는 데에 있어, 사람들이 정보 프라이버시 염려를 갖게 되는 요인은 무엇이며, 프라이버시 침해에 대해 어떠한 대처 전략을 취하고 시스템에 대한 수용 여부는 어떻게 나타나는지 살펴보는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 근거이론 연구방법을 통해 의료기관 방문 경험자들을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 수행하여 근거자료를 수집한 후, 의료정보 프라이버시 염려에 대한 근거이론을 구성하고 패러다임 모형을 도출하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 의료정보 프라이버시 염려 발생 요인, 의료정보 프라이버시 염려, 의료정보 프라이버시 침해에 대한 대응 전략, EHR 시스템의 수용 여부에 관한 총체적인 설명이 가능한 근거이론 모형을 개발하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면, 의료정보에 대한 민감성과 기술의 발전이 의료정보 프라이버시 염려를 유발하고, 의사와 기술에 대한 신뢰도에 따라 연구 참여자 사이에 프라이버시 침해 대응 전략과 EHR 시스템 도입에 관한 입장이 달라진다. 지금까지 국내에서 EHR 시스템에 초점을 두고 의료정보 프라이버시에 대한 심층적인 분석을 수행한 연구가 없기 때문에 본 연구는 학술적으로 기여하는 바가 있고, 프라이버시 염려를 완화시킬 수 있는 실질적인 방안을 제시한다는 점에서 실무적 함의가 있다.
