A Methodology for Integrating Business Process and Simulation for Business Process Redesign

  • IDEF0 is the IEEE standard for functional enterprise modeling and has been used for business process modeling or process mapping in US and Europe. But it does not reflect the potential benefits of modeling and simulation of the dynamic aspects of an enterprise or a system. On the other hand, simulation tools concentrate mostly on the simulation of material flows and are difficult to include information flows and control flows. Additionally, the simulation models that include elements such as queues, event generators and process nodes is a visual interactive representation for the model builder, but is inconvenient for the domain expert. In an attempt to fill that void, we provide an integration of business process and simulation models in this paper. An enhancement of the IDEF0, called parameterized IDEF0, is proposed and its conversion mechanism to network simulation model is developed. Using this methodology, business process models for alternative systems can be evaluated and compared through simulation on time, cost, and quality metrics. As an application of the proposed methodology, economic evaluation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for time-based BPR (Business Process Redesign) is demonstrated. In addition to BPR, the developed methodology may be further integrated with ABC (Activity Based Costing), TQM (Total Quality Management), and economic evaluation of information systems.

  • Considering our increasingly interconnected organizations heavily relying on business processes and the growing need for timely accurate knowledge to achieve greater agility in the enterprise, the idea of looking at business processes as a knowledge object is gaining momentum. Business process information is knowledge and should consequently be managed as a valuable organizational asset, particularly because organizations need to react in near real time to environmental changes and events. This paper provides an overview of the situation in this field arguing for a better definition of the intersections between knowledge and business process management. When business process is seen as knowledge, it should be managed as such. We assess and discuss some of the resulting benefits and considering the need for greater dynamic integration between the two domains, we look at ontologies as an interesting technical approach to bridging this gap showing an example for an ontology based sales order process.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the limitations of the existing management system by analyzing the characteristics of the PC process to improve the PC construction project management system process. To overcome the limitations derived, we present a process of managing integrated information from the design-production-construction stage using QR codes and clouds. This is expected to help develop a PC construction project management system.

  • 2003년부터 시작하여 현재 진행 중인 L전자의 BPM 구축은 한국에서는 최초의 전사적 BPM 구축으로 다른 기업의 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. L전자는 세계 TOP 3의 Global Brand을 이룬다는 목표 하에 기업 업무 혁신(process Innovation)을 가동하였다. 끊임없이 가속화되는 세계화나, IT의 발전 등으로 인한 기업 경영 환경의 변화는 전략의 변화에 따른 업무 처리 절차, 방식의 변화를 초래하고 있기 때문이다. 본 사례는 L전자가 BPM(Business Process Management)을 이용하여 업무 프로세스를 체계적이며 지속적으로 개선하려는 노력에 대하여 구체적으로 살펴보고, BPM을 통한 혁신의 의미와 가능성에 대하여 논의한다.

BIM기반 건설현장 관리모델 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the development of Construction Field Management Model based on BIM)

  • The importance of efficient construction site management has been growing as the amount of construction information increases which is used in the growing construction site. Accordingly in this study, we are trying to find out the application situation and possibility of BIM through theoretical examination and domestic & overseas case study of BIM and we are trying to suggest the way of efficient construction site management formulation through implementation phase-oriented and cooperation entity-oriented analysis in the construction site. We found out that it was possible to minimize time loss and financial loss by visualizing 2D drawings through 3D modeling of target building by applying BIM and that it was possible to improve accuracy of budget planning with quantitative information of 3D model, to plan construction process with more confidence due to accurate architectural information of drawings and quantitative information, and to manage cost and quality through process management based on construction information acquired by BIM including object information by part. It is concluded that we can improve efficiency of construction management between field and each cooperating entity by integrating and linking BIM information through this process.

IT와 SCM 프로세스 관리역량이 e-SCM 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Impact of IT and SCM Process Management Capability on e-SCM Performance)

  • The main purpose of this study is to define antecedents that influence e-SCM synchronization and to investigate how it affects e-SCM performance. We, therefore, investigate (1) the impact of firms' internal IT planning capabilities on e-SCM synchronization and on SCM process management capability, (2) the impact of firms' internal IT infrastructure on e-SCM synchronization and on SCM process management capability, (3) the impact of firms' internal SCM process management capabilities on e-SCM synchronization, and finally (4) the impact of e-SCM synchronization on SCM performance. A survey has been administrated to the firms' SCM and marketing staffs and 171 returns analyzed. The results show that (1) IT plan has not direct impacts on e-SCM synchronization, but has direct impacts on organizational support, purchasing, and operations processes except logistics process. IT plan, however, has indirect impacts on e-SCM synchronization through purchasing and operations of SCM process management capability. (2) IT infrastructure has both direct and indirect effects on e-SCM synchronization, and also has direct impacts on organizational support, purchasing, and operations processes except logistics process. (3) SCM process management capabilities have direct impacts on e-SCM synchronization. Among these SCM core processes purchasing positively influences operations, which in turn positively influences logistics process management capability. (4) e-SCM synchronization has positive impacts on SCM performance indicator (SCOR), such as delivery reliability, responsiveness & flexibility, and cost. These results indicate that e-SCM synchronization can be critical to achieve better internal performance like cost and external performance like delivery reliability, responsiveness & flexibility of firms' SCM. In sum, this study demonstrates that the intervening role of e-SCM synchronization between e-SCM performance and IT management capability and between e-SCM performance and SCM core process management capability has been significant in achieving better e-SCM performance. Therefore, it can be suggested that e-SCM performance should be accomplished in consequence of the acceleration of e-SCM synchronization through the enhancement of preceding factors for the e-SCM synchronization.

군(軍)의 '작전수행과정'을 적용한 효과적인 '재난관리 수행과정' 발전 방향에 관한 연구: '안전관리기본계획' 수립 과정을 중심으로 (A Study on the Development Direction of the Effective Disaster Management Process Applying the Military Operation Process: Focusing on the Process of Establishing a Basic Safety Management Plan)

  • 연구목적:정부와 지방자치단체에서 실효성 있는 '안전관리계획'수립을 위한 전반적인 '재난관리 수행과정'(가칭)의 발전방향을 제시하는데 있다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 '안전관리계획'에 대한 선행연구를 검토하여 공통적인 문제점들을 도출하였고, 이러한 문제점들을 해결할 수 있는 '재난관리 수행과정' (가칭)을 군(軍)의 '작전수행과정'을 접목하여 발전방향을 제시하였다. 연구결과: 본 연구자가 제시한 '재난관리 수행과정'(가칭)을 통해 선행연구의 공통적인 문제점들을 보완할 수 있다. 결론: '재난관리 수행과정'(가칭)을 통해서 최종적으로는 '국가와 지방자치단체의 기본적 임무임을 확인하고, 국민이 재난으로부터 안전한 사회에서 생활할 수 있도록 한다'는 정부의 재난관리 기본이념을 달성할 수 있다.

  • 비즈니스 프로세스 관리도구인 BPM을 SCM 부문에 적용하면 효율적인 프로세스 관리 및 제어가 가능하다. 또한 BPM은 SCM을 구성하는 프로세스를 효과적으로 통합하여 실행시킬 수 있다. 이러한 접근 방법은 SCM 프로세스의 진행과정을 보다 효율적으로 관리하고 모니터링 할 수 있도록 한다. 또한 프로세스 수행결과를 분석하여 프로세스의 개선에 대한 방안을 수립할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 이러한 BPM을 SCM 환경에 도입한다 아울러 SCM 프로세스를 효과적으로 통합 실행하고 업무 프로세스를 개선하는 방안을 데이터마이닝 기법을 적용하여 제시한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the application sphere of BPM(Business Process Management) to e-trade process using BPM technology and its service architecture in order to expand the usage of e-trade platform which is developing. After close reviewing the current status of trade process, the possibility of BPM application by e-trade process will be analyzed. The result of analysis is that BPM application to local L/C and purchasing confirmation process could be implemented because those processes are very suitable to apply standardized process and can minimize the risk and confusion of users. BPM application to remaining trade process have to be considered by mid-term and long-term project with the reflection of pilot project performance. Also this study suggests a business management model of e-trade process based on BPM technology which is the new IT technology and integrated interface in view of trade community.

  • Nowadays, nations cyber security capabilities play an important role in a nation's defense. Security-critical infrastructures such as national defenses, public services, and financial services are now exposed to Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) and their resistance to such attacks effects the nations stability. Currently Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) is widely used by organizations to mitigate and deter APT for its ability to proactively protect their assets by using evidence-based knowledge. The evidence-based knowledge information can be exchanged among organizations and used by the receiving party to strengthen their cyber security management. This paper will discuss on the business process reengineering of the CTI information exchange management for a nationwide scaled control and governance by the government to better protect their national information security assets.
