  • Continuous improvements of network infrastructures and mobile data offloading strategies are among the solutions of cellular providers to cope with the increase in mobile data demand. These options requires a lot of cost and time to implement. Few researches have been conducted to assess the applicability of Pocket Switched Network (PSN) to support mobile data offloading. In this paper, we present a PSN mobile data-offloading scheme that utilizes mobile users with available connectivity to deliver content-aware data to other mobile users. This paper also aims to evaluate the applicability and feasibility of PSN routing schemes to improve the current strategies in mobile data offloading. The simulation results show admirable results in terms of message delivery and latency.

  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks have drawn much research interest in the past few years because they provide a good substrate for large-scale applications in the Internet. In this paper, we introduce the use of anycast, a new "one-to-one-of-many" communication method in the Internet, to solve the following common problems of P2P overlay networks: load-balancing, topology-awareness, system partitioning, and multi-overlay interconnection. We also give an analysis of the features and limitations of the recently deployed anycast infrastructures in the Internet for supporting P2P overlay networks.

  • A smart grid is a next-generation power grid that can improve energy efficiency by applying information and communication technology to the general power grid. The smart grid makes it possible to exchange information about electricity production and consumption between electricity providers and consumers in real-time. Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is the core technology of the smart grid. The AMI provides two-way communication by installing a modem in an existing digital meter and typically include smart meters, data collection units, and meter data management systems. Because the AMI requires data collection units to control multiple smart meters, it is essential to ensure network availability under heavy network loads. If the load on the work done by the data collection unit is high, it is necessary to allocation new data collection units to ensure availability and improve energy efficiency. In this paper, we discuss the allocation scheme of data collection units for the energy efficiency of the AMI.

  • Based on a complete understanding research in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the Intelligent Transport Systems rapidly build up innovative applications to ensure real time attainment as well remote management of driven information, provide a huge range of services and involve many actors in automotive ecosystem. In this paper, we present an intelligent cloud computing for handling data received from traffic sensing technologies. Transportations technologies applied in ITS have played a great role in collecting data from devices deployed in vehicles and highway infrastructures utilizing broadband wireless technologies to the Cloud. In order to facilitate the interested in automotive industry to use data collected and afford services to the car's owner, a scalable acquisition, access to computing resources and offered services are the primary goal of the proposed cloud computing.

  • A protocol HMNR, was proposed to utilize control information of every other process piggybacked on each sent message for minimizing the number of forced checkpoints. Then, an improved protocol, called Lazy-HMNR, was presented to lower the possibility of taking forced checkpoints incurred by the asymmetry between checkpointing frequencies of processes. Despite these two different minimization techniques, if the high message interaction traffic occurs, Lazy-HMNR may considerably lower the probability of knowing whether there occurs no Z-cycle due to its shortcomings. Also, we recognize that no previous work has smart procedures to be able to utilize network infrastructures for highly decreasing the number of forced checkpoints with dependency information carried on every application message. We introduce a novel Lazy-HMNR protocol for group communication-based distributed computing systems to cut back the number of forced checkpoints in a more effective manner. Our simulation outcomes showed that the proposed protocol may highly lessen the frequency of forced checkpoints by comparison to Lazy-HMNR.

  • Farmers seek for high profitability by increasing the best use of land, and the selection of crops is the first and basic way to achieve their goals. When farmers select crops, the climate, price and productivity of crops are usually considered at the first stage. However, a crucial factor is to understand general characteristics of soils where the crops were grown, but many farmers are lacking in detailed knowledge about soils. The purpose of this study is to search and analyses factors based upon related soil and others in decision-making for the selection of crops. In result, the cultivated rate of the top 5 corps in the suitable areas for cultivation (SAC) is only 53 % which shows most farmers are plants their crops in unsuitable sites. To examine factors influencing on the selection of crops except for soils, surveys about their farm characteristic and Korea Soil Information System (KSIS) were conducted. The result of survey shows 20 % of farmers know KSIS. To increase that rate, there were many changes on soil's characteristic, and at the same time, climate conditions should be updated. It can be expected to increase the rate of farmers' utilization of KSIS.

  • In this study, the history of disaster occurrence in rural area was reviewed and damage characteristics were analyzed in order to improve the safety level according to the occurrence of disasters in non-urban area (rural area). Also, the concept of regional disaster prevention was adopted to rural area and the basic direction for establishing a disaster safe village in rural area was set. Due to the characteristics of rural area, the population and the number of households in the rural area were small, and the rural area showed lack of various disaster safety facilities and infrastructures and limitation in the access to the outside due to its geographical characteristics. Therefore, the matters regarding the direction for establishing and operating a regional disaster safe village reflecting humanities, facilities, infrastructures, and geographical and environmental characteristics were summarized.

  • Although information communication technology (ICT) has been one of the most important infrastructures for our societies, it is still considered as a kind of black box having a barrier to be accepted and being not easily understood. Nevertheless, there are no proper research models or theories for explaining older adults' ICT uses. The objective of this study is to suggest a direction for studying older adults' ICT using behaviors. For this purpose, based on the review and analysis of current studies, main research issues are discussed and a new research framework for the research of older adults' ICT use, Silver ICT users Life Cycle(SILC), is suggested.
