  • In this paper, the expert system to reduce the amount of food waste is proposed. The method of material flow analysis (MFA) is applied. Proper handling of waste beyond the terms of the need for proactive research been mentioned before, but actually cause the waste generator research focuses on consumer behavior and the business community to analyze the flow of materials within the study are insufficient.   • Translating expert knowledge into production rules has been the most difficult and time-consuming when building expert systems (Buchanan et al. 1983). Especially, buidling hierarchical structure, i. e. developing sequential or dominant relationship among production rules is one of the most important and difficult processes. Hierarchical relationship among rules has been typically determined in the course of interviewing human experts. Since this interviewing procedure is rather subjective, however, the hierarchically structured rules produced in terms of interviewing is widely exposed to the severe discussion about their validity (Nisbett and Wilson 1977 : Ericsson and Simon 1980 : Kellog 1982). We thus need an objective method to effectively translate human expert knowledge into structured rules. As such a method, this paper suggests the order anlaysis technique that has been studied in psychometries (Cliff 1977 : Reynolds 1981 : Wise 1983). In this paper we briefly introduce the order analysis and explain how it can be applied to building hierarchical structure of production rules. We also illustrate how bankrupcy prediction rules of small-medium companies can be developed using this order analysis technique. Further, we validata the effectiveness of these rules developed by the order analysis, in comparison with those built by other methods. The rules developed by the proposed outperform those of the other traditional methods in effectively screening the bankrupted firms.

  • GDS(Grating automatic Drawing System), which is an automatic design system of metal products called grating, is a system that produces various detailed drawings on the basis of information within a Plan Drawing that represents layout of the gratings such as locations, shapes, directions, etc. However, automatically produced drawings by GDS do not fully satisfy the standard of the general dimension marking method used among the layout designers. The lack of this standard quality mainly results from the fact that overlapping among dimension markings appears frequently. To solve the overlapping problem we applied the rule-based expert system which uses the expert's knowledges and facts to solve the problems. The rules for the expert system are designed based on the expertise of skilled layout designers within the grating production lines.

  • In this paper, we define schematic User Interface Task(SUIT) as a scheme which is a conceptual unit to specify the dialogue between man and machine. Using a set of SUITs, the user interface can be described separately from domain applications and can be realized through SUIT Manager(SUITMAN), an execution module devised to interprete and process the descriptions of SUITs. SUIT makes it possible to describe conceptual behaviors performed on the interactions of user interface in early stages of expert system development. SUITMAN analyzes the specification described in SUITs and automatically implements the user interface by using the functions in MOTIF library of X-Window system. By an example of SUIT and SUITMAN to the user interface, we applied them into an expert system, 'Circuit Provisioning Expert System'.

  • This paper deals with the expert system using network configuration and input information composed of protective relays and tripped circuit breakers. This system has knowlegebase independent on network dimension because network representation consists of the type of the matrix. Therefore, the knowlege of network representation is simplified, the space of knowlege is reduced, the addition of facts to the knowlege is easy and the expansion of facts is possible. In this paper, the network representation is defined to system matrix. This expert system based on the system matrix diagnoses normal, abnormal operations of protective devices as well as possible fault sections. The brach and bound search technique is used: breadth first technique mixed with depth first technique of primitive PROLOG search technique. This system will be used for real time operations. This expert system obtaines the solution using the pattern matching in working memory without no listing approach for rule control. This paper is written in PROLOG, the A.I. language.

  • In this paper, we described the export system to monitor and diagnose 765KV power apparatus. To develop this expert system, we studied the knowledge bases and data bases for 765KV transformer and GIS. In order to make the reliable inference of knowledge base and the good MMI(Man Machine Interface), the data bases were consisted of the tables of power apparatus information, limit level value, measured input data, inference result and diagnosis result. The knowledge base had various rules to infer the conditions of transformer and GIS. We applied both the forward chaining and backward chaining methods to these rules of system for good inferences. This paper describes the applied methods for expert system. Also, this developed system was tested with dissolved gas analyzing result and the result was shown.

  • The purposes of this study are to propose a network for the characterizing of the input data and to show how to design predictive neural net재가 expert system which doesn't need previous knowledge base. We derived this network from the radial basis function networks(RBFN), and named it as a statistical EBFN. The proposed network can replace the statistical methods for analyzing dynamic relations between target disease and other parameters in medical studies. We compared statistical RBFN with the probabilistic neural network(PNN) and fuzzy logic(FL). And we testified our method in the diabetes prediction and compared our method with the well-known multilayer perceptron(MLP) neural network one, and showed good performance of our network. At last, we developed the diabetes prediction expert system based on the proposed statistical RBFN without previous knowledge base. Not only the applicability of the characterizing of parameters related to diabetes and construction of the diabetes prediction expert system but also wide applicabilities has the proposed statistical RBFN to other similar problems.

Fuzzy-technique-based expert elicitation on the occurrence probability of severe accident phenomena in nuclear power plants

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the occurrence probabilities of severe accident phenomena based on a fuzzy elicitation technique. Normally, it is difficult to determine these probabilities due to the lack of information on severe accident progression and the highly uncertain values currently in use. In this case, fuzzy set theory (FST) can be best exploited. First, questions were devised for expert elicitation on technical issues of severe accident phenomena. To deal with ambiguities and the imprecision of previously developed (reference) probabilities, fuzzy aggregation methods based on FST were employed to derive the occurrence probabilities of severe accidents via four phases: 1) choosing experts, 2) quantifying weighting factors for the experts, 3) aggregating the experts' opinions, and 4) defuzzifying the fuzzy numbers. In this way, this study obtained expert elicitation results in the form of updated occurrence probabilities of severe accident phenomena in the OPR-1000 plant, after which the differences between the reference probabilities and the newly acquired probabilities using fuzzy aggregation were compared, with the advantages of the fuzzy technique over other approaches explained. Lastly, the impact of applying the updated severe accident probabilities on containment integrity was quantitatively investigated in a Level 2 PSA model.

  • Marine Structures are very costly and need a continuous inspection and maintenance routine. The most effective way to control the structural health is the application of an expert system that can evaluate the importance of any distress on the structure and provide a maintenance program. An extensive literature review, interviews with expert supervisors and a national survey are used to build a decision support system for concrete structures in sea environment. Decision trees are the main rules in this system. The system input is inspection information and the system output is the main cause(s) of distress(es) and the best repair method(s). Economic condition, severity of distress, distress situation, and new technologies and the most repeated classical methods are considered to choose the best repair method. A case study demonstrates the application of the developed decision support system for a type of marine structure.

  • This paper deals with the expert system for power system recognition of energized and deenergized system using circuit breaker information. The basic idea is isolating the system with the system matrix representing the system configuration and the states of the circuit breakers. The knowledge base is composed of these isolated systems and decision rules. The isolated system with the sources is recognized as the energized system and the system without the source as the deenergized system. The rules use the system matrix and the the inference scheme is simplified in a great deal. Above all, the overall searching labor of the rules is independent on the system size and it is possible to expand into the real system and the real time restoration can be carried out easily. The expert system is written in PROLOG.
