  • This paper discusses the surface roughness of negative chemically amplified resists, SAL601 exposed by I-beam direct writing. system. Surface roughness, as measured by atomic force microscopy, have been simulated and compared to experimental results. Molecular-scale simulator predicts the roughness dependence on material properties and process conditions. A chemical amplification is made to occur in the resists during PEB process. Monte-Carlo and exposure simulations are used as the same program as before. However, molecular-scale PEB simulation has been remodeled using a two-dimensional molecular lattice representation of the polymer matrix. Changes in surface roughness are shown to correlate with the dose of exposure and tile baking time of PEB process. The result of simulation has a similar tendency with that of experiment.

  • In this paper, a Logarithmic Video Amplifier(LVA) for radar system or satellite communications is described. The proposed LVA is composed of a input stage, amplification stage, and output stage. As well as a novel series-parallel architecture is proposed for the purpose of wide dynamic range and high speed operation, a newly developed input stage is designed in order to control the voltage level between LVA and detector diode. The LVA is fabricated with a 1.5um 2-poly 2-metal n-well Bi-CMOS technology, and the chip area is 1310 um x 1540 um. From the experimental results, it consumes 190 mW at 10V power supply, the chip has 60 dB dynamic range and 100ns falling time.

  • Conventionally, a TIVT has been used for high power amplification in the microwave frequency range. However, an ultra-high-power amplifier in the 2GHz range has successfully been designed and fabricated employing high power transistors developed recently and available commercially. In the design of the amplifier, a balanced-pair configuration is adopted in order to obtain very high microwave power, and a good impedance matching is achieved by making use of microstripline techniques. For the RF power divider as well as combiner, an approach of stripline directional coupler isadopted because of its easiness in fabrication. The coupler so designed and fabricated indicates a satisfactory performance as a quadrature hybrie coupler. Measurements on the amplifier developed for an immediate commercial application also exhibit excellent overall performance characteristics RF power output, 14 watts, gain 14dB, frequency bandwidth, 160MHz, effciency 40%.

  • In the process of tumorigenesis, normal cells are remodeled to cancer cells and protein expression patterns are changed to those of tumor cells. A newly formed tumor microenvironment elicits the immune system and, as a result, a humoral immune response takes place. Although the tumor antigens are undetectable in sera at the early stage of tumorigenesis, the nature of an antibody amplification response to antigens makes tumor-associated autoantibodies as promising early biomarkers in cancer diagnosis. Moreover, the recent development of proteomic techniques that make neo-epitopes of tumor-associated autoantigens discovered concomitantly has opened a new area of 'immuno-proteomics', which presents tumor-associated autoantibody signatures and confers information to redefine the process of tumorigenesis. In this article, the strategies recently used to identify and validate serum autoantibodies are outlined and tumor-associated antigens suggested until now as diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers in various tumor types are reviewed. Also, the meaning of autoantibody signatures and their clinical utility in personalized medicine are discussed.

  • The aim of this study was to construct a correct pedigree of miniature horses (MH). The sex of MH was detected by PCR amplification of the sex determining region of the Y chromosome gene (SRY) prior to parentage testing. Ten random MH samples for parentage testing were genotyped by using 16 micro satellite markers. Since the SRY band (430 bp) was detected in horses No.1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, these are male. However, the DNA segment was not identified in horses No.3, 4, and 5, which therefore are female. After genotyping, parentage testing was performed according to Mendelian fashion and International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) guideline. Of the 10 MH, 3 were qualified by the compatibility of 16 markers according to Mendelian fashion in the present DNA typing for parentage verification. These results can provide basic information for developing parentage verification and an individual identification system in MH.

  • A simplified 10-element GaAs MESFET equivalent circuit model has been presented which is suitable for the design of ultrabroad-band microwave small-signal amplification, the these circuit element values are extracted from measured S-parameters using complex-curve fitting algorithm. Packaged GaAs MESFET equivalent circuits are composed of intrinsic \ulcornermodel and several extrinsic elements at microwave frequencies, of which the largest effects are caused by package lead inductances. If these are eliminated from measured S-parameters, newly obtained S-parameters are closed to intrinsic \ulcornermodel, and the rest element values can be easily extracted. The modeling results applied to the packaged GaAs MESFET NE71083 are almost equal between the measure S-parameters and the mideled S-parameters within b 2% errors from DC to 8GHz, and errors are increased to \ulcorner% upto 12GHz wide bandwidth.

  • We have developed a whole-head MEG system for basic brain research and clinical application. The sensor system consists of a 152 SQUID gradiometer array oriented and located in a suitable way to cover a whole head of the human. The system measures magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents in the brain to get information on the brain activities. For this purpose, the field sensitivity determined by the position, orientation and geometry of the pickup coil as well as amplification factor of the electronic circuits should be known precisely. However, the position and orientation of the pickup coil might be changed from the designed specifications during cool down of the dewar and it is necessary to characterize the field sensitivity. In this study, we made calibration systems to determine the actual position and orientation of the 152 pickup coils and compared the localization results of the N100m source in the auditory cortex.

  • Cudrania tricuspidata Bureau is a widely-used, medicinal, perennial and woody plant. Obtaining information about the genetic diversity of plant populations is highly important with regard toconservation and germplasm utilization. Although C. tricuspidata is an important medicinal plant species registered in South Korea, no molecular markers are currently available to distinguish Korean-specific ecotypes from other ecotypes from different countries. In this study, we developed single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers derived from the chloroplast and nuclear genomic sequences, which serve to to identify distinct Korean-specific ecotypes of C. tricuspidata via amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS)-PCR and high resolution melting (HRM) curve analyses. We performed molecular authentication of twelve C. tricuspidata ecotypes from different regions using DNA sequences in the maturaseK (MatK) chloroplast intergenic region and nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. The SNP markers developed in this study are useful for rapidly identifying specific C. tricuspidata ecotypes from different regions.

  • Many parrots are considered endangered species due to threats from human activities. Gender determination is of great importance for biological studies and the conservation of endangered parrots. However, like other birds, gender determination in parrots is hindered due to the lack of external dimorphism between males and females. A molecular approach using the chromo-helicase-DNA binding protein 1 (CHD1) gene is commonly used for sexing birds. This study aimed to determine the gender of parrots from Korean zoos based on amplification and visualization of the partial CHD1 gene. The samples of 13 parrot species were collected from three different zoos in Korea and the extracted DNA templates were amplified using CHD1 gene primers. The gender of 27 samples of 13 species was determined by visualizing the PCR products on an agarose gel. While male parrots were indicated by a single band, female parrots were indicated by double bands. The findings provide additional information, which might be helpful for the management and care of parrots in Korean zoos.

  • To restore image degraded by blur and additive noise in the optical and electrical system, a regularized iterative restoration is used. A regularization operator is usually applied to all over the image without considering the local characteristics of image in conventional method. As a result, ringing artifacts appear in edge regions and the noise is amplified in flat regions. To solve these problems we propose an adaptive regularization iterative restoration considering the characteristic of edge and flat regions using directional regularization operator. Experimental results show that the proposed method suppresses the noise amplification in flat regions, and restores the edge more sharply in edge regions.
