Best Practice on Automatic Toon Image Creation from JSON File of Message Sequence Diagram via Natural Language based Requirement Specifications

  • In AI image generation tools, most general users must use an effective prompt to craft queries or statements to elicit the desired response (image, result) from the AI model. But we are software engineers who focus on software processes. At the process's early stage, we use informal and formal requirement specifications. At this time, we adapt the natural language approach into requirement engineering and toon engineering. Most Generative AI tools do not produce the same image in the same query. The reason is that the same data asset is not used for the same query. To solve this problem, we intend to use informal requirement engineering and linguistics to create a toon. Therefore, we propose a sequence diagram and image generation mechanism by analyzing and applying key objects and attributes as an informal natural language requirement analysis. Identify morpheme and semantic roles by analyzing natural language through linguistic methods. Based on the analysis results, a sequence diagram and an image are generated through the diagram. We expect consistent image generation using the same image element asset through the proposed mechanism.

Research on Natural Language Processing Package using Open Source Software (오픈소스 소프트웨어를 활용한 자연어 처리 패키지 제작에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose In this study, we propose the special purposed R package named ""new_Noun()" to process nonstandard texts appeared in various social networks. As the Big data is getting interested, R - analysis tool and open source software is also getting more attention in many fields. Design/methodology/approach With more than 9,000 R packages, R provides a user-friendly functions of a variety of data mining, social network analysis and simulation functions such as statistical analysis, classification, prediction, clustering and association analysis. Especially, "KoNLP" - natural language processing package for Korean language - has reduced the time and effort of many researchers. However, as the social data increases, the informal expressions of Hangeul (Korean character) such as emoticons, informal terms and symbols make the difficulties increase in natural language processing. Findings In this study, to solve the these difficulties, special algorithms that upgrade existing open source natural language processing package have been researched. By utilizing the "KoNLP" package and analyzing the main functions in noun extracting command, we developed a new integrated noun processing package "new_Noun()" function to extract nouns which improves more than 29.1% compared with existing package.

Indefinites and Specificity Revisited

  • The semantic literature on definiteness and specificity shows that the former is relatively an established notion, whereas the latter is still a vague notion that needs to be more clarified and confirmed. Given this, Ionin (2006) argues for the reality of specificity based on the informal use of this. She proposes this in spoken English as a specificity marker which has a semantic feature indicating "peaker intent to refer" and "noteworthiness." She also provides as evidence the results of some crosslinguistics studies including an L2 acquisition study with both L1-Russian and L1-Korean L2-English learners. However, this paper will argue that the informal use of this does not seem to mark specificity according to Ionin's definition of specificity. It will also be argued that the L2 acquisition study cannot be used as evidence for the reality of specificity. Based on these arguments, this paper will try to redefine specificity, based on the notions of existence and uniqueness.

Korean heritage students and language literacy: A qualitative approach

  • This paper is a qualitative study of the experiences of Korean heritage language learners (KHLLs) with literacy (reading and writing), particularly before they enter the college-level heritage language classroom. Previous research, both qualitative and quantitative, has addressed the overall language background of KHLLs, including oral and aural proficiency and writing and reading ability, as well as demographic information (such as when the student immigrated to the United States) in relation to language test scores. This study addresses KHLL experiences in the following six areas as they relate to student perceptions and attitudes toward their own heritage language literacy: language proficiency, motivation for learning, academic preparedness, cultural connectedness, emotional factors, and social factors. Fourteen undergraduate students at a university in the western United States participated in a convenience sample by responding to a 10-question survey. Trends in responses indicated that KHLLs entered the classroom with high integrational motivation and experienced great satisfaction with perceived progress in literacy, but students also expressed regret for having missed childhood learning experiences that would likely have resulted in higher proficiency. These experiences include informal and formal instruction in the home and formal instruction outside of the home.

  • 교차언어 검색 과정에서는 질의나 문서의 언어를 일치시키기 위한 변환 과정이 필수적이며, 이런 변환 과정에서 어휘의 중의성으로 인해 하나의 어휘에 대응하는 다수의 대역어가 생성됨으로써 사용자의 정보 욕구를 왜곡시켜 검색의 성능을 저하시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 어휘 중의성 문제를 해결하기 위해서 질의의 문맥 정보를 이용하여 변환 질의의 확률을 구함으로써 중의성을 해소하는 방식을 제시하고, 질의의 길이, 중의도, 중의성을 가진 어휘의 비율 등에 따라서 성능이 어떻게 변하는지 비교함으로써 이 방법의 장점과 단점을 분석한다. 또한 현재의 단점을 보완하기 위한 차후 연구 방향을 제시한다.

Speaker Commitments by ′-canh-′and ′-ci′ in Korean

  • Comparing the uses of '-canh-' with the ones of '-ci,'this study suggests that different modal interpretat ions by '-canh-' and '-ci' is based on the interpersonal relationship between speaker and interlocutor. While noting that '-canh-' and '-ci' are the modal indicators denoting degrees of speaker commitment, for making clear the illocutionary force of utterances, it is observed and explained that what the speaker is committed respectively by using '-canh-' and '-ci' is highly sensitive to the relativity of the known/unknown status of the informal ion introduced into discourse contexts .

  • Education systems throughout the world encourage their students to learn languages other than their native one. In Australia, our Education Boards provide students with the opportunity to learn European and Asian languages. French, German, Chinese and Japanese are the most popular languages studied in elementary and high schools. This choice is a reflection of Australias European heritage and its geographical position near Asia. In most non-English speaking countries, English is the foreign language most readily available to students. In Korea, the English language is actively promoted by the Education Department and, in less official ways, by companies and the public. It is impossible to be anywhere in Korea without seeing the English language alongside or intermingled with Korean. When I ask students why they are learning English, I receive answers that include the word globalization and the importance of English throughout the world. When I press further and ask why they personally are learning English, the students mention passing exams, usually high school tests or TOEIC, and the necessity of passing the latter to obtain a good job. Seldom do I ever hear anything about communication: about the desire to talk with other people in English, to read novels or poetry in English, to understand movies or pop-songs in English, to chat on the Internet in English, to search for information on the Internet in English, or to email pen-pals in English. Yet isnt communication the only valid reason for learning a language? We learn our native language to communicate with those around us. Shouldnt we set the same goal for learning a foreign language? In my opinion communication, whether it is reading and writing or speaking and listening, must be central to language learning. Learning a language to pass examinations is meaningless unless those examinations are a reliable indicator of the ability of the student to communicate. In previous eras, most communication in a foreign language was through reading novels or formal letters. This required a thorough knowledge of grammar and a large vocabulary. Todays communication is much less formal. Telephone conversations, tele-conferences, faxes and emails allow people to communicate regularly and informally. Reading materials are also less formal as popular novels and newspapers are available world-wide. Movies and popular songs have added to the range of informal communication available. Finally travel has ensured that people from different cultures will meet easily and regularly. This informal communication requires less emphasis on grammar and vocabulary and more emphasis on comprehension and confidence to speak. Placing communication central to language learning has important implications for the Education system and for teachers.

A Case Study on Children's Informal Knowledge of the Fractional Multiplication (분수의 곱셈에서 비형식적 지식의 형식화 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate children's informal knowledge of the fractional multiplication and to develop a teaching material connecting the informal and the formal knowledge. Six lessons of the pre-teaching material are developed based on literature reviews and administered to the 7 students of the 4th grade in an elementary school. It is shown in these teaching experiments that children's informal knowledge of the fractional multiplication are the direct modeling of using diagram, mathematical thought by informal language, and the representation with operational expression. Further, teaching and learning methods of formalizing children's informal knowledge are obtained as follows. First, the informal knowledge of the repeated sum of the same numbers might be used in (fractional number)$\times$((natural number) and the repeated sum could be expressed simply as in the multiplication of the natural numbers. Second, the semantic meaning of multiplication operator should be understood in (natural number)$\times$((fractional number). Third, the repartitioned units by multiplier have to be recognized as a new units in (unit fractional number)$\times$((unit fractional number). Fourth, the partitioned units should be reconceptualized and the case of disjoint between the denominator in multiplier and the numerator in multiplicand have to be formalized first in (proper fractional number)$\times$(proper fractional number). The above teaching and learning methods are melted in the teaching meterial which is made with corrections and revisions of the pre-teaching meterial.

Quality Improvement by enhancing Informal Requirements with Design Thinking Methods

  • In the current software project, it is still very difficult to extract and define clear requirements in the requirement engineering. Informal requirements documents based on natural language can be interpreted in different meanings depending on the degree of understanding or maturity level of the requirements analyst. Also, Furthermore, as the project progresses, requirements continue to change from the customer. This change in requirements is a catastrophic failure from a management perspective in software projects. In the situation of frequent requirements changes, a current issue of requirements engineering area is how to make clear requirements with unclear and ambigousrequirements. To solve this problem, we propose to extract and redefine clear requirements by incorporating Design Thinking methodologies into requirements engineering. We expect to have higher possibilities to improve software quality by redefining requirements that are ambiously and unclearly defined.

Selection of Korean General Vocabulary for Machine Readable Dictionaries (자연언어처리용 전자사전을 위한 한국어 기본어휘 선정)

  • According to Jeong Ho-seong (1999), Koreans use an average of only 20% of the 508,771 entries of the Korean standard unabridged dictionary. To establish MRD for natural language processing, it is necessary to select Korean lexical units that are used frequently and are considered as basic words. In this study, this selection process is done semi-automatically using the KAIST large corpus. Among about 220,000 morphemes extracted from the corpus of 40,000,000 eojeols, 50,637 morphemes (54,797 senses) are selected. In addition, the coverage of these morphemes in various texts is examined with two sub-corpora of different styles. The total coverage is 91.21 % in formal style and 93.24% in informal style. The coverage of 6,130 first degree morphemes is 73.64% and 81.45%, respectively.
