  • This paper presents issues of display hardware architecture, relating to memory, display driver IC architecture, and chip-to-chip interface. To achieve a low power and low cost mobile phone, not only the display architecture must be carefully selected, but also the driver-ICs optimized to accommodate the different modes of operation found in typical handheld devices. The technique of forming a photo sensor in each pixel using TFT and display module architecture are developed to add multi functions in display such as fingerprint recognition, image scanning, and integrated touch screen. Detailed architectures of IC partitioning, high-speed serial interface, D/A converter, and multi functions such as fingerprint recognition and image scanning using photo sensors are important to a power optimized system.

  • The device characteristics and the interface electronic structures of organic light-emitting devices based on /tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum ($Alq_3$) were investigated with Al/NaF cathode. The Al/NaF cathode greatly improved the performance of the device over the Al-only cathode. A series of photoelectron spectroscopy studies on cathode structures including Al/LiF and $Al/CaF_2$ revealed that the performance enhancement originated mainly from the HOMO peak shift upon the fluoride deposition rather than the formation of the gap states

  • The device characteristics and the interface electronic structures of organic light-emitting devices based on tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum were investigated with $Al/CaF_2$, Al/LiF, and Al-only cathodes. Similar to the Al/LiF cathode, the $Al/CaF_2$ cathode greatly improved the performance of the device over Al-only cathode. However, a photoelectron spectroscopy study revealed that despite the performance improvement, the evolution of the new peaks during $Al/CaF_2$ cathode formation closely resembled those of the Al-only cathode rather than the Al/LiF cathode.

  • In order to improve the power efficiency of multi-layer organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), electron injection into ETL(electron transport layer) from cathode at the interface between ETL and cathode was enhanced by interposing a proper electron injection layer at the interface. The HTL(hole transport layer) and ETL materials used were N, N'diphenyl- N, N' - bis(3-methylphenyl-1, 1'- biphenyl - 4, 4 'diamine (TPD) and tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$) respectively. Cathodes using co-evaporated Al-CsF, Al-KF, and Al-NaF composites are adopted to enhance the electrical and optical properties of OLEDs. OLEDs with alkaline metal-doped cathode show a luminance of as high as 35,000 cd/$m^2$, and external quantum efficiency about 1.35 %. In addition, they show higher power efficiency at all bias conditions and good reproducibility.

  • We propose a signaling circuit that can reduce power consumption and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) controller-to-source driver interface. The proposed signaling circuit consists of a coder/decoder that can minimize temporal bit transitions in a transmission line and a current-mode driver that can convert voltage swing into a very small amount of current. We have simulated the proposed signaling circuit using the HSPICE and the proposed signaling circuit has been designed in a 0.25 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • Organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) are constructed using multilayer organic thin films. The hole-transport layer is PVK and the emitting material is rubrene and $Alq_3$. The emitting layer is doped with rubrene partially. As the partially-doped layer migrate from the interface PVK/emitting layer, the emission peak of rubrene decrease and diminish. By comparing with the previous reports, we propose the zero-field hole injection barrier at ITO/PVK interface and hole-trapping effect of rubrene in host materials as predominant factor to determine the emission zone.

  • We successfully fabricated flexible electronic paper display (EPD) by using toner particles on plastic (PC) substrate. It has high resolution (WVGA : 800 ${\times}$ 480) and 7 inch diagonal viewable image size. The response time was about 0.25 msec at 90 V, a contrast ratio of about 2, a driving voltage of 60 V which we successfully demonstrated to display several images at.

  • We fabricated flexible electronic paper display(EPD) by using toner particles on plastic (PC) substrate. We observed the relationship between contrast ratio and changes of rib structures. One is a fabrication of ribs on bottom substrate. The display with ribs on bottom substrate had higher contrast ratio about 46% than display with ribs on top substrate. The other is a change of density of rib. The less density of ribs fabricated, the higher the contrast ratio become.

  • Earthwork is to level or excavate the ground to provide a space for installing structures. A large number of construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, and dump trucks are put into the earthwork operation. The equipment operators need to constantly communicate with each other during the operation. In the earthwork operation, therefore, the process should be analyzed on the equipment operation to improve the effectiveness of communication. The objective of this study is to understand the earthwork process, and improve the effectiveness of data interface by adopting the smart glass technology. In the study, the general process of earthwork is modeled using a process diagram. The data that is generated during the process is modeled using a class diagram. A database is developed to store and reuse the data. The smart glass technology is adopted to develop a data interface during the earthwork operation. The result of the prototype showed that the technology can improve the data interface during excavation overcoming the shortcomings of hand or sound signals.
