Quantifying Influence in Social Networks and News Media

  • Massive numbers of users of social networks share various types of information such as opinions, news, and ideas in real time. As a new form of social network, Twitter is a particularly useful information source. Studying influence can help us better understand the role of social networks. The popularity of social networks like Twitter is primarily measured by the number of followers. The number of followers in Twitter and the number of users exposed to news media are important factors in measuring influence. We chose Twitter and the New York Times as representative media to analyze the influence and present an empirical analysis of these datasets. When the correlation between the number of followers in Twitter and the number of users exposed to the New York Times is computed, the result is moderately high. The correlation between the number of users exposed to the New York Times and the number of sections including the users on it, was found to be very high. We measure the normalized influence score using our proposed expression based on the two correlation coefficients.

Interpersonal support, Tension in life changes & Life satisfaction in Urban Housewives (도시주부의 대인적 지지, 생활긴장감 및 만족도)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate interpersonal support, tension in lifechanges & satisfaction. The selected sample is composed of 387 housewives in ChongJoo city. SAS pc program was used for the statistical analysis of the data. Data was analyzed by frequency, F-test, percentage, mean, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Regression Analysis. Major findings as follows: 1)At wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents & parents-in law side were variables to have influence on tension in life changes. And the number of social organization participated were a variable to have influence on the satisfaction. The age of couple, education of couple, duration of marriage, income, family lifecycle, the number of children, pattern of family were variables to influence tension in life changes, but were not variables to influence on the satisfaction. 2) At usual or wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents side were variables to influence on instrumental & companionship support. And the number of friends was a variable to influence on companionship & informational support. The number of neighbors was a variable to influence on instrumental, companionship & informational support. The number of social organization participated was a variable to influence on companionship & emotional support. The age of couple, education of couple,income, duration of marriage, family life cycle, number of children, family size, family type were variables to influence on interpersonal support. 3)The relationship between tension and satisfaction in life changes was negative, and between instrumental support and satisfaction was negative also. But between companionship support and satisfaction was positive relationship and between tension of personal &social life and instrumental support was positive relationship. The relationship between tension of marriage life and companionship support was negative and between tension of family life and information support was negative relationships. The received companionship support was lower tension in life changes than not received it. But the received instrumental support was higher tension of personal & social life. The received companionship & informational support was higher satisfaction than not received them. But the received instrumental support was lower satisfaction than not received it. 4) Instrumental & companionship support, at usual kin network of her parents in taw side, at wedding & funeral ceremony kin network of her parents side,were variables to influence on tension in life changes. Factors on the Intention to Purchase Charged Items in Mobile Social Network Game (모바일 소셜 네트워크 게임의 아이템 구매의도에 영향을 주는 요인)

  • Recently, the social network game (SNG) industry is expanding at a fast pace by the increase in the charged item sales. The objective of the present study is to explore factors influencing user intention to purchase charged items. Based on the literature review, flow has been introduced as an influential factor of the intention to purchase and individual influence, social relationship, and social influence as factors of flow. Enjoyment and self-competence are assumed to be measurement constructs for individual influence, social interaction and self-presentation for social relationship, social norm and perceived critical mass for social influence. Empirical analysis show that enjoyment and self-presentation has significant influence on users' flow while self-competence and social interaction has not. Also social norms and perceived critical mass directly influence intention to purchase items. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed by this results.

  • The growth in the use of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services as an enabler to conduct business more effectively has been phenomenal. Technology acceptance model (TAM) has been applied in different contexts to examine a wide range of information technologies (IT). As more and more companies are finding ways to utilize ubiquitous computing based on mobile services, an important issue is to understand what factors will impact the decisions of consumers in adopting the services. Based on TAM with three additional groups of external factors, i.e., service-related factors (ubiquitous access, context awareness) and technology-related factors (perceived security risk, network connectivity) that are theoretically justified as having influence on both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use which are additionally considered, a research model for the investigated technology acceptance was developed and empirically examined, using responses from more than intended users of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services. The specific purposes of this study are as follows. Firstly, this study is to identify service beliefs considering unique characteristics for ubiquitous services such as perceived ubiquitous access and perceived context awareness. Secondly, this study is to investigate network characteristics beliefs such as perceived security and perceived connectivity. Thirdly, this paper investigates the relationship among variables such as ubiquitous characteristics, network characteristics, behavioral beliefs, and intention to use ubiquitous web services. This study uses a structural equation model to test the research model. The major results of this study are as follows. Firstly, ubiquitous access has a influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Context awareness has an influence on perceived usefulness. Secondly, User familiarity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and intention to use. User innovativeness has an influence on perceived ease of use. Thirdly, perceived security risk has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Network connectivity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Fourth, there exist differential effects among factors in structural model among information, transaction, and entertainment services.

  • According to many conceptual researches and discourses, development of information-communication technology(ICT) has made great influences upon activities on time and space. But some empirical studies have shown that its influence in the real world is not so great as we may expect In order to avoid these two oppositional views, this paper wants to put interests on socio-spatial relationships or networks, rather than individual phenomena or consciousness, which have been transformed under the influence of ICT. The development of ICT presupposes a creation of information network, and hence the term 'etwork social space' can be used to see its spatial influence, which would be further understood with the theory of actor-network. This paper also suggests that network social space has three strata, that is, 'nstant' 'unctional 'and 'aterial' and that network social space can be emphasized not only as newly emerging social space but also as reconstruction of subjects' identity through his/her participation into information network as its node.

  • The army of republic of korea have been continued to transform their logistics support system structure for better efficient logistics support system in preparation for the future environment. Logistics system has supply network structure which is connected by various units and supply network structure received attention as a factor of success of supply network. Many researchers have continuously researched inventory management, transportation or economy factors for supply network, but such a study on the one in military supply network structure analysis is still slower than the study of analysis of other factors until now. In this study, we identify military supply network structure influence factor by application of social network analysis method which is used broadly and analyze co-relationships between supply network structure influence factor and valued APL(average path length) as a criteria of efficiency of military supply network. By this study it has value of military supply network influence factor identification for the better military supply network fabrication.

  • In this paper, in order to improve withstand voltage properties of epoxy resin, IPN(interpenetrating polymer network) method was introduced and the influence was investigated. The sing1e network structure specimen(E series), simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network specimen(EMF series) and pseudo interpenetrating polymer network(EMP series) specimen were manufactured. In order to understand the internal structure properties, scanning electron microscopy method was utilized, rind glass transition temperature was measured. Also, AC voltage dielectric strength, tensile strength and impact strength were measured to investigate influence upon electrical and mechanical properties. As a result, it was confirmed that simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network specimen was the most execellent.

Influence of Global Competitive Capability on Global Performance of Distribution Industry in South Korea

  • Purpose: Purpose of this study is to empirically analyze influence of global competitive capability on global performance of distribution industry in South Korea. Also based on the empirical results, give managerial implication to distribution industry and contribute to academies of management. Research design, data and methodology: This study focuses on relationship analysis between global competitive capability and global performance. This study measured global competitive capability with three concepts; human capability, network capability and product/service capability. And measured global performance with export performance. To empirically analyze relationship between variables, this study used 2,316 data of GCL Test by KOTRA and Kdata. This study used SPSS26 and analyzed frequency, reliability, correlation and stepwise regression analysis. Results: Result shows that, in control variable, business period and business field give significant positive influence on export performance. Among antecedents, human capability and network capability give significant positive influence on export performance. However, product/goods/service was not significant. Due to significant influence of business field which is categorical variable. This study additionally analyze relationship by business field group to confirm whether relationship differ by group or similar. Conclusions: Based on the results, this study try to give implication to distribution industry management and contribute to academic.

  • In this research, we conducted an empirical study on the influence of social capital on cooperative governance for the Gwangju city social economy. The results of the study are as follows. First, the social capital factor commonly affecting cooperative governance is trust. Secondly, we were able to learn that there was a difference in the results of the hierarchical regression analysis to grasp the magnitude of the relative influence of detailed elements of social capital by cooperative governance factors in order. Network(4.843) exerted the most influence in Common Decision-making, followed by Trust(3.855). Trust(3.130) exerted the most influence on Management of Governance, followed by Network(2.936). Network(2.647) exerted the most influence on Cowork System, followed by Trust(2.244). Finally, Network(4.153) exerted the most influence on Partnership Building, followed by Trust(2.244). In particular, 'Participation' was an important factor in 'Co-work System'.

Investigating Journal Citation Network with Centrality Measures in the Public Administration and Policy Field (중심성지수를 이용한 행정학·정책학 관련 학술지의 상호인용 네트워크 분석)

  • Writing high-quality papers and publishing them at prestigious academic journals would be something that every scholar strives for. This study made a network with nine academic journals in South Korea in the field of public administration and public policy and analyzed the influence of academic journals through social network analysis. Using centrality measures, such as degree centrality, beta centrality, and eigenvector centrality, this study found that Korean Public Administration Review has the highest influence on the journal network, followed by Korean Public Studies Review. However, different choice of centrality measure led to different ranking of journals in terms of their influence.
