  • Military helicopters are equipped with OBIGGS System to prevent an explosion caused by the projectile. OBIGGS warning lights up should only operate when sensing fault, but it frequently worked without malfunction in the initial production process and the design improvements were required. In this paper, the cause of OBIGGS abnormal warning lights up was reviewed, the improvements were established and proven.

  • We study and analyze here a novel and simple approach to produce copper oxide nanowires in a methanol as an alternative to chemical synthesis routs and VLS-growth method. First, copper oxide nanowires are grown from copper nanoparticles in methanol at $60^{\circ}C$. Nanoparticles are synthesized via inert gas condensation, one of the dry processes. Synthesized nanowires were confirmed via XRD, FESEM and TEM. As a result, all particles have grown to Cu2O nanowires (20~30 nm in diameter, 5~10 um in length; aspect ratio >160~500). Next, these synthesized oxide nanowires are reduced copper nanowires in the furnace under hydrogen flow at $200{\sim}450^{\circ}C$. The evolution of oxide nanowires and their transformation to copper nanowires is studied as a function of time.

  • Elemental powders are used in high energy milling processes for the synthesis of new compounds. The low temperature solid state reactions during milling in inert gas atmosphere may result in intermetallic phases, carbides, nitrides or silicides with a nanocrystalline structure. To obtain dense materials from the powders a pressure assisted densification is necessary. On the other side the defect-rich microstructure can be used for activated sintering of elemental powder mixtures to obtain dense bodies by pressureless sintering. Results are discussed for nanocrystalline cermet systems and for the sintering of aluminides and silicides.

  • A short reaction mechanism was developed in order to predict the flame phenomena in premixed Dimethyl Ether-Air flame with the methods of SEM-CM(Simulation Error Minimization Connectivity Method), sensitivity analysis, and the rate of production analysis. It consisted of 31 species including nitrogen as inert gas and 177 elementary reactions. The flame structures obtained using a detailed reaction mechanism and the short reaction mechanism were compared with various equivalence ratios and pressure, and the results were in good agreement. Therefore, the short reaction mechanism would be used to aim at studying the development of a reduced reaction mechanism.

  • We investigated the effects of hydrogen addition to the growth process of SiC single crystal using sublimation physical vapor transport(PVT) techniques. Hydrogen was periodically added to an inert gas for the growth ambient during the SiC bulk growth Grown 2"-SiC single crystals were proven to be the polytype of 6H-SiC and carrier concentration levels of about $10^{17}/cm^3$ was determined from Hall measurements. As compared to the characteristics of SiC crystal grown without using hydrogen addition, the SiC crystal without definitely exhibited lower carrier concentration and lower microplpe density as well as reduced growth rate.

  • Potassium methylselenite ($KSeO_2(OCH_3)$) was reduced to elemental selenium, Se(0), and then doped onto montmorillonite K 10 (MK10) clay to examine the interaction between elemental mercury (Hg(0)) vapor and Se(0) in an effort to understand the possible heterogeneous reaction of Hg(0) vapor and Se(0) solid. The clay was used as a cost-effective support material for uniform dispersion of Se(0). The Se(0)-doped MK10 showed an excellent reaction performance with Hg(0) under an inert nitrogen gas at 70 and $140^{\circ}C$ in our lab-scale fixed-bed system. However, the precursor, $KSeO_2(OCH_3)$-doped MK10 showed a negligible reaction performance with Hg(0), suggesting that the oxidation state of selenium plays a key role in the reaction of Hg(0) vapor and selenium compounds.

  • Currently knowledge of strain in welds has mainly been obtained form strain gaging method:; that is directly attaching most of the material to the gate. The very few non-contact method are still in the early stage. One of the non-contact methods is by the use of the laser that has high-level of the accuracy for the measurement, and this laser also has excellent characteristics on which many studies for its applications are focused throughout the many fields. The dissertation is on the measurement of the strain caused by the characteristics and the temperature changes of the TIG welded zone which is used with 3D ESPI system that is functionally modified through the laser ESPI system. This system employed the aluminum sheet-metal which are mainly used for the steel plate such as for the electronics, chemisry, food instrument and electronic appliances.

  • The visible vibronic emission spectrum was recorded from the corona discharge of precursor 1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene with a large amount of inert carrier gas helium using a pinhole-type glass nozzle coupled with corona excited supersonic expansion. The spectrum showed a series of vibronic bands in the $D_1{\rightarrow}D_0$ electronic transition of jet-cooled benzyl-type radicals formed from the precursor in a corona excitation. The analysis confirmed that two isomeric radicals, 2,3,4- and 2,3,6-trimethylbenzyl radicals, were produced as a result of removal of a hydrogen atom from the methyl group at different substitution positions. For each isomeric product, the electronic transition and a few vibrational mode frequencies were determined in the ground electronic state.

  • Isomeric trimethylbenzyl radicals were generated and vibronically excited from precursor 1,2,3,5-tetramethylbenzene, isodurene, with a large amount inert carrier gas helium in a corona excited supersonic expansion (CESE) using a pinhole-type glass nozzle. A long-path monochromator was used to record the visible vibronic emission spectra of the jet-cooled benzyl-type radicals in the $D_1{\rightarrow}D_0$ electronic transition. From the analysis of the spectra, we identified the evidence of the presence of three isomeric trimethylbenzyl radicals in the corona discharge, and obtained the electronic energy and a few vibrational mode frequencies in the ground electronic state for each isomer.

  • A new rod-like liquid crystalline monomer having divinyl terminal groups was synthesized and polymerized by using thiol-ene UV polymerization technique. High quality thin film with good retardation value was prepared on a rubbed alignment layer without the inert gas purging. The retardation value of the resulting film was controlled by experimental conditions such as spin speed, concentration, and spin time. From the retardation value and thickness measurement, ${\bigtriangleup}n$ was calculated to be 0.169 for the resulting film having thickness of 815.1 nm.
