A Study on the Emergency Control Algorithm for Viability Crisis of Power System (계통사고시 장해경감을 위한 긴급제어 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • After the short-term dynamics due to the major disturbance are over, the power system may lead to viability crisis state wherein there is possibility of cascading damage. This paper presents an emergency control algorithm to alleviate the obstacles of system frequency or bus voltage during the viability crisis state. The algorithm considers the effects of controlling reactive power sources for load shedding and generation reallocation in order to alleviate the obstacles. The problem is decomposed into a subproblem I and a subproblem II. The former minimizes system frequency deviation from nominal value and the latter voltage violation of load buses. The optimization problem is solved by a reduced gradient technique which can handle a great number of inequality constraints more easily. It has been verified that the use of the proposed algorithm for IEEE 14 bus system alleviates the obstacles efficiently during the viability crisis.

A Study on the Optimum Operational Control of Power System (전렬계통의 합리적 운용제어에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a new practical method for optimal active and reactive power control for the economic operation in electrical power system, and the programs are developed for digital computer solution. The major features and techniques of this paper are as follows: 1) The method is presented for finding the equivalent active power balance equation applying the sparse Jacobian matrix of power flow equation instead of using B constant as active power balance equation considering transmission loss, and thus for determining directly optimal active power allocation berween generator unitw satisfying the equality and inequality constraints. 2) The method is proposed for solving directly the optimum economim dispatch problem without using gradient method and penalty function for both active and reactive power control. As a result, the computing time are reduced and convergence characteristic is remarkably improved. 3) Unlike most of conventional methods which adopt the transmission loss as a objective function for reactive power control, the total fuel cost of themal power plant is adopted as objective function for both active and reactive power control. consequently, more reasonable and economic profit can be achieved.

  • This paper presents a new method for hi-objective optimization. Ordinary weighted sum method is easy to implement, but it has two significant drawbacks: (1) the solution distribution by the weighted sum method is not uniform, and (2) the method cannot determine any solutions that reside in non-convex regions of a Pareto front. The proposed adaptive weighted sum method does not solve a multiobjective optimization in a predetermined way, but it focuses on the regions that need more refinement by imposing additional inequality constraints. It is demonstrated that the adaptive weighted sum method produces uniformly distributed solutions and finds solutions on non-convex regions. Two numerical examples and a simple structural problem are presented to verify the performance of the proposed method.

Development of a Robust Controller for Piezo/beam Systems (압전/빔 시스템에 대한 강건제어기 개발)

  • This paper presents a robust vibration control methodology for smart structural systems. The governing equation and associated boundary conditions of the smart structural system are derived by using Hamilton's principle. The assumed mode method is used to discretize the governing equation into a set of ordinary differential equation. A robust controller is designed using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach for the multiobjective synthesis. The design objectives are to achieve a mix of H$_{\infty}$ performance and H$_2$ performance satisfying constraints on the closed-loop pole locations in the presence of model uncertainties. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of LMI approach in damping out the multiple vibration modes of the piezo/beam system.

  • The principle of matching is a new framework for control systems design that requires the matching between the control system and the environment (the source of exogenous inputs). The principle is especially useful for the design of the critical control systems where the responses of the control systems should be kept below the prescribed values.   • Non-Traditional Optimization methods are successfully used in solving many engineering problems. Shaft is one of important element of machines and it is used to transmit power from a machine which produces power to a machine which absorbs power. In this paper, ten non-traditional optimization methods that are ALO, GWO, DA, FPA, FA, WOA, CSO, PSO, BA and GSA are used to find minimum weight of hollow shaft to get global optimal solution. The problem has two design variables and two inequality constraints. The comparative results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization outperforms other methods and the results are validated using ANSYS.

  • This paper presents a method that can reduce the computational cost of the hierarchical quadratic programming (HQP)-based robot controller. Hierarchical controllers can effectively manage articulated robots with many degrees of freedom (DoFs) to perform multiple tasks. The HQP-based controller is one of the generic hierarchical controllers that can provide a control solution guaranteeing strict task priority while handling numerous equality and inequality constraints. However, according to a large amount of computation, it can be a burden to use it for real-time control. Therefore, for practical use of the HQP, we propose a method to reduce the computational cost by decreasing the size of the decision variable. The computation time and control performance of the proposed method are evaluated by real robot experiments with a 15 DoFs dual-arm manipulator.

  • The goal of this study is to derive a class of random impulsive non-local fractional stochastic differential equations with finite delay that are of Caputo-type. Through certain constraints, the existence of the mild solution of the aforementioned system are acquired by Kransnoselskii's fixed point theorem. Furthermore through Ito isometry and Gronwall's inequality, the Hyers-Ulam stability of the reckoned system is evaluated using Lipschitz condition.

  • This paper is concerned with the design or an LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) -based H$\infty$ controller for a line of sight (LOS) stabilization system and with its robustness performance. The linearization of the system is necessary to analyze various nonlinear characteristics, but the linearization entails modeling uncertainties which reduce its performance. In addition, the stability of the LOS can be adversely affected by angular velocity disturbances while the vehicle is moving. As the vehicle accelerates, all the factors that are Ignored and simplified for the linearization tend to Inhibit the performance of the system. The robustness in the face of these uncertainties needs to be assured. This paper employs H$\infty$ control theory to address these problems and the LMI method to provide a suitable controller with minimal constraints for the system. Even though the system matrix does not have a full rank, the proposed method makes it possible to design a H$\infty$ controller and to deal with R and S matrices for reducing the system order. It can be also shown that the proposed robust controller has a better disturbance attenuation and tracking performance. The LMI method is also used to enhance the applicability of the proposed reduced-order H$\infty$ controller for the system given. The LMI-based H$\infty$ controller has superior disturbance attenuation and reference input tracking performance, compared with that of the conventional controller under real disturbances.

  • The curing process is the final step in tire manufacturing whereby a green tire built from layers of rubber compounds is formed to the desired shape and the compounds are converted to a strong, elastic materials to meet tire performance needs under elevated pressure and temperature in a press. A numerical optimization procedure was developed to improve product quality in a tire curing process. First, a dynamic constrained optimization problem was formulated to determine the optimal condition of the supplied cure media during a curing process. The objective function is subject to an equality constraint representing the process model that describes the heat transfer and cures kinetic phenomena in a cure press and is subject to inequality constraints representing temperature limits imposed on cure media. Then, the optimization problem was solved to determine optimal condition of the supplied cure media for a tire using the complex algorithm along with a finite element model solver.
