  • Currently, understanding the characters of Rural Industrial Parks' regional distribution is insufficient. Therefore, regional characters of the Rural Industrial Parks all over the country were studied through indications such as sales, worker-sales increase rate, worker increase rates. Portfolio analysis and IDW by using ArcView 3.2 were used as a method of analysis. As a result, most of the Rural Industrial Parks' size and size increase rate showed low figures. Respective regional analysis shows that there is an increase in the scale of the Kyungnam area using portfolio analysis, whereas the scale of Chonbuk is high using IDW. As a result, it shows that there is difference on the scale between Rural Industrial Parks when individual or Associated with peripheral. Therefore, not only do the Rural Industrial Parks need stimulation individually, but adjacent parks need to be supported and managed.

  • The private sector is currently reviewing the feasibility of the project or deciding economic policies by analyzing the economic ripple effects. However, the arms acquisition project focuses on the need for the national defense weapons system by analyzing the costs and the effectiveness of the analysis and reviewing the necessity and feasibility of the project. In order to analyze the economic ripple effects, KB (the Bank of Korea) prepares and publishes an analysis table of industrial associations in a given unit. IAAR (the industrial association analysis report) is difficult to apply directly to the defense weapons system. Therefore, research on the economic ripple effects applicable to the defense arms procurement project was needed. In this study, we propose the generic methodology for estimating economical and technical ripple effects resulted in acquiring new weapon systems. Based on the analysis of inter-industrial relations, economical ripple effects are estimated with production inducing effects, value-induced effects, employment-induced effects and export-induced effects. Also, the technological ripple effects are estimated with technological intensity represented by investment cost in research and development. To show the validity of proposed methodology, a case study of acquiring new weapon systems such as GR (guided rocket), destroyer, and helicopter is accomplished. From the case study, it is concluded that these economical & technological ripple effects can be used as a reference to decision making in the course of acquiring major future defense weapons systems.

  • Being dealt in Alfred Weber's Theory of the location of Industries, a lot of economic benefits can be obtained through aggregation and clustering of industrial facilities, which derived to the development of industrial complexes in Korea. However, with the IMF economic crisis as well as various institutional changes, the framework of aggregation and clustering of industries is broken, which led to individual developments that took place without any consideration of surrounding industries. For reformation of these condition of industrial complexes, national government-led regeneration projects are being carried out currently. However, national government-led projects mainly focus on profitable projects such as officetel and hotel that are irrelevant to exist composition of industrial complexes which is usually manufacturing base industries and are unable to solve the fundamental problems of industrial complexes. Thus, a necessity of industry clustering is deduced through case analysis of actual private-led manufacturing industry cluster with governance and analysis of benefits on financial, spatial and environmental aspects. In addition, implications on the necessity follow base on factorial analysis on the benefit of clustering development than individual development as well as analysis on the measures taken for successful clustering.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to predict industrial accident rate using time series analysis. Methods: The rates of industrial accident and occupational injury death were analyzed using industrial accident statistics analysis system of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency from 2001 to 2014. Time series analysis was done using the most recent data, such as raw materials of Economically Active Population Survey, Economic Statistics System of the Bank of Korea, and e-National indicators. The best-fit model with time series analysis to predict occupational injury was developed by identifying predictors when the value of Akaike Information Criteria was the lowest point. Variables into the model were selected through a series of expertises' consultations and literature review, which consisted of socioeconomic structure, labor force structure, working conditions, and occupational accidents. Results: Indexes at the meso- and macro-levels predicting well occurrence of occupational accidents and occupational injury death were labor force participation rate for ages 45-49 and budget for small scaled workplace support. The rates of industrial accident and occupational injury death are expected to decline. Conclusion: For reducing industrial accident continuously, we call for safe employment policy of economically active middle aged adults and support for improving safety work environment of small sized workplace.

  • Objective:This study aims to devise industrial injury prevention measures by analyzing industrial injury characteristics including the status of industrial injuries, source of industrial injury and accident type in order to prevent aging workers' industrial injuries that account for more than half in the workplaces in agriculture. Background: Continuous migration from farm to city takes place among young people in rural areas in Korea, a traditionally agricultural country due to rapid industrialization and economic development. The aging rate in rural areas in 2013 was 37.3%, about three times higher than the total aging rate of 12.2% in Korea. According to industrial injury statistics of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the number of industrial injuries in agriculture shows an uptrend and the industrial injuries of aging workers account for more than 50% each year. Method: Of the 2,970 industrial injury cases occurred in the workplaces in agriculture for five years during 2008 and 2012 offered by a national agency related to health and safety, this study analyzed 1,767 industrial injury cases of aging workers. Results: As a result of an analysis on aging workers' industrial injuries by company size in agriculture, 89.8% of the total number of industrial injuries were analyzed to occur in small scale company. According to aging workers' industrial injuries by source of industrial injury and accident type, the outdoor floor and a fall were analyzed to be the highest at 16.5% and 26.1%, respectively. Conclusion: This study analyzed aging workers' industrial injuries by company size, age, job duration, accident severity, gender, nationality, the source of industrial injury and accident type in order to identify industrial injury characteristics in agriculture. Application: The identification of industrial injury characteristics of aging workers in agriculture is judged to be helpful to devising effective measures to prevent industrial injuries.

  • Along with the rapid development of industrial technology, the industrial structure has been continuously changed. Accordingly, safety technologies have been gradually developed to be applied into various industrial fields as well, not limited to a specific industry area. As a result, it became important to analyze and predict trends of safety technology development in order to establish technology strategies for industrial safety. In particular, since patents are easily accessible to gather the technology and business information, many studies have highlighted technology forecasting using patent information. Thus, this study proposes the patent analysis of monitoring trends of safety technologies of industry fields, taking into account both static and dynamic aspects through index and text analysis. First, patent documents containing safety-related keywords are collected from the WIPSON database for extracting technology information. Then, the development trends of safety technologies by industry fields are identified and analyzed through the analysis of indicators such as marketability, growth, and activation. The results of various indicator analyses of safety technologies are visualized to compare among industrial safety technologies for businesses and technology developers. Second, textmining algorithm is applied to identify trends of specific technology keywords of major industries extracted from patent index analysis. As a result, it is expected that the safety manager uses the patent analysis of safety technologies to provide safety technology information with safety-related companies and institutes. The extracted safety technologies are applicable to business practice and predict future promising technologies.

  • This paper presents a method of sensitivity analysis for the infeasible interior point method when a new variable is introduced. For the sensitivity analysis in introducing a new variable, we present a method to find an optimal solution to the modified problem. If dual feasibility is satisfied, the optimal solution to the modified problem is the same as that of the original problem. If dual feasibility is not satisfied, we first check whether the optimal solution to the modified problem can be easily obtained by moving only dual solution to the original problem. If it is possible, the optimal solution to the modified problem is obtained by simple modification of the optimal solution to the original problem. Otherwise, a method to set an initial solution for the infeasible interior point method is presented to reduce the number of iterations required. The experimental results are presented to demonstrate that the proposed method works better.

  • A primary concern of national R&D plans is to encourage technological development in private firms and research institutes. For effective R&D planning and program support, it is necessary to assess technological impacts that may exist both directly and indirectly among technology areas within the whole technology system; however, previous studies analyze only direct impacts among technologies, failing to capture both direct and indirect impacts. Therefore, this study proposes an approach based on decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) to identifying specific characteristics of technology areas, such as technological impact and degree of cause or effect (DCE). The method employs patent co-classification analysis to construct a technological knowledge flow matrix. Next, to capture both direct and indirect effects among technology areas, it incorporates the modified DEMATEL process into patent analysis. The method helps analysts assess the technological impact and DCE of technology areas, and observe their evolving trajectories over time, thereby identifying relevant technological implications. This study presents a case study using Korean patents registered during 2003-2012. We expect our analysis results to be helpful input for R&D planning, as well as the suggested approach to be incorporated into processes for formulating national R&D plans.
