  • In this paper, we analyzed how 5-year-old children perceive a robot's ability to attribute mental states to oneself and to others, which shall hereafter be referred to as a robot's theory of mind (RToM). A total of 34 5-year-old children were given two typical false-belief tasks, an 'unexpected-contents task' and a 'change-of-location task', in order to evaluate whether a child's perceived RToM was connected to their own ToM. In addition, we investigated whether a child's perception of RToM was influenced by either a priori experience with robots or that child's gender. The results are as follows. Firstly, the 5- year-old preschool children universally recognized robots as beings that have a human-like mind both in 1st order and 2nd order perspectives, which indicates that children perceive robots as beings distinct from mechanical toys. Secondly, a priori child-robot interaction experience was found to have a positive influence on a child's perceived RToM. Thirdly, the gender of children did not significantly affect their perceived RToM. This study serves to add to the macroscopic results of prior research, which indicate that children perceive robots as intermediate beings between living and inanimate objects: significantly, it analyzes the children's perception of robots through the lens of theory of mind, which is one of the key elements of cognitive development. This research lays the foundations for designing effective child-robot interactions, in situations in which robots serve as peers or assistants for educational purposes.

  • A Serious Game helps the learners to recognize the problems effectively, grasp and classify important information needed to solve the problems and convey the contents of what they have learned. Owing not only to this game-like fun but also to the educational effect, The Serious Game can be usefully applied to education and training in the areas of scientific technology and industrial technology. This study proposes the Serious Game that users can apply to biotechnology by using intuitive multi-modal interfaces. In this study, a stereoscopic monitor is used to make three dimensional molecular structures, and multi-modal interface is used to efficiently control. Based on a such system, this study easily solved the docking simulation function, which is one of the important experiments, by applying these game factors. For this, we suggested the level-up concept as a game factor that depends on numbers of objects and users. The proposed system was evaluated in performance comparison in result time of a new drug design process on AIDS virus with previous approach.

  • This paper describes a one of HRD Program focus on ICT technology called TOPCIT as that companies and higher education providers voiced the need for a standardized, objective competency index that can reinforce the on-site competency of college students majoring in ICT/SW. And reduce the gap between the viewpoints of industrial and academic circles regarding the qualifications of a competent specialist in ICT field. For this reason, T.OPCIT developed and evaluated a performance-evaluation-centered test designed to diagnose and assess the competency of ICT specialists and SW developers critically needed to perform jobs on the professional frontier. This TOPCIT concept has been promoted not just in KOREA but in many ASEAN countries, e.g Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Philippines, Mongolia and Cambodia during the ICTD-USO Forum organised by ITU-ASP.

  • Recently, there is a great demand for artificial teeth prostheses made of the materials which are sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ such as zirconia ceramic. Since degree of strength of the materials is very high, however, it is very difficult for technicians to manually fabricate the prostheses for these ceramics. So the prostheses have been fabricated by using CNC(computer numerical control) machines. In doing them by using CNC, it is very important that the prostheses satisfying dentists's requirements are accurately modeled into 3D objects. In this paper, we propose an effective method for modeling single cores such as single caps and Conus cores, which are the main those of artificial teeth prostheses. And we also present the visual examples of 3D models for these single cores modeled by the proposed methods. In special, the method has used Minkowski sum and ZMap for modeling the single cores.

  • Marine microalgae have long been used as food additives and feeds for juvenile fish and invertebrates as their nutritional content is beneficial for humans and marine aquaculture species. Recently, they have also been recognized as a promising source for cosmeceutical, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical products as well as biofuels. Marine microalgae of various species are rich in multiple anti-oxidant phytochemicals and their bioactive components have been employed in cosmetics and dietary supplements. Oil contents in certain groups of marine microalgae are extraordinarily rich and abundant and therefore have been commercialized as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid supplements and mass production of microalgae-based biodiesels has been demonstrated by diverse research groups. Numerous natural products from marine microalgae with significant biological activities are reported yearly and this is attributed to their unique adaptive abilities to the great diversity of marine habitats and harsh conditions of marine environments. Previously unknown toxin compounds from red tide-forming dinoflagellates have also been identified which opens up potential applications in the blue biotechnology sector. This review paper provides a brief overview of the biotechnological potentials of Korean marine microalgae. We hope that this review will provide guidance for future marine biotechnology R&D strategies and the various marine microalgae-based industries in Korea.

  • On January 27, 2005, the central government of the Republic of Korea designated Jeju Island as an Island of World Peace based on Article 12 of the Special Act for the Jeju Free International City, and the WHO designated Safe Community Jeju in July, 2007. Whenever an industrial accident occurs on Jeju Island, reports in the media raise the question of whether Jeju is a safe city or not. But due to the characteristics of construction sites in Jeju, it is very difficult to employ workers of a certain level. For the safety of workers, it is also thought that owners should make a decisive investment to introduce an education and reward system in order to improve the consciousness level of workers. This research focuses on first-aid on construction sites. It then surveys the level of construction safety management, and suggests improvements in construction safety control and first-aid.

  • Objectives: 1) To determine mercury levels in urine samples from garbage workers in Southern Thailand, and 2) to describe the association between work characteristics, work positions, behavioral factors, and acute symptoms; and levels of mercury in urine samples. Methods: A case-control study was conducted by interviewing 60 workers in 5 hazardous-waste-management factories, and 60 matched non-exposed persons living in the same area of Southern Thailand. Urine samples were collected to determine mercury levels by cold-vapor atomic absorption spectrometer mercury analyzer. Results: The hazardous-waste workers' urinary mercury levels (10.07 ${\mu}g/g$ creatinine) were significantly higher than the control group (1.33 ${\mu}g/g$ creatinine) (p < 0.001). Work position, duration of work, personal protective equipment (PPE), and personal hygiene, were significantly associated with urinary mercury level (p < 0.001). The workers developed acute symptoms - of head-aches, nausea, chest tightness, fatigue, and loss of consciousness at least once a week - and those who developed symptoms had significantly higher urinary mercury levels than those who did not, at p < 0.05. A multiple regression model was constructed. Significant predictors of urinary mercury levels included hours worked per day, days worked per week, duration of work (years), work position, use of PPE (mask, trousers, and gloves), and personal hygiene behavior (ate snacks or drank water at work, washed hands before lunch, and washed hands after work). Conclusion: Changing garbage workers' hygiene habits can reduce urinary mercury levels. Personal hygiene is important, and should be stressed in education programs. Employers should institute engineering controls to reduce urinary mercury levels among garbage workers.

  • The number of multicultural families is on the rise worldwide. In this respect, the central government and municipal governments are also implementing and supporting multicultural-related policies. However, they are in progress, not as services needed for multicultural members but as policy issues. This causes multicultural members to fail to figure out the need of policies supported by the government or local governments, as well as to grasp the desire for what services in need are. In addition to this, many studies regarding multiculture are under way but few studies have been known so far as to multicultural business models. This study has suggested a final business model and strategy methods by designing, comparing and analyzing a business model needed for multicultural members through interviews with professionals and multicultural members with regard to mulcultural policies and examples in Korea.
