  • The cryogenic system for inductive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been investigated recently. In this investigation, the sub-cooled nitrogen cryogenic system was adopted to enhance the performance of DC reactor for 6.6㎸/200A inductive SFCL. In sub-cooled nitrogen state at 64K, the critical current value and the thermal conductivity are larger than those of saturated nitrogen state at 77K and the electrical insulation capacitance should be remarkably enhanced. The solenoid type of 84mH superconducting DC reactor was fabricated and cooled down to 64K by using sub-cooled cooling method with GM-cryocooler and rotary pump. The fabrication techniques of cryogenic system and some experimental results such as cooling down characteristic are introduced in this study. Moreover, the sub-cooled nitrogen cryogenic system was detailedly introduced in this paper.

Practical Bifurcation Criteria considering Inductive Power Pad Losses in Wireless Power Transfer Systems

  • In this paper, the bifurcation criteria for inductive power transfer (IPT) systems is suggested considering the inductive power pad losses. The bifurcation criteria for series-series (SS) and series-parallel (SP) topologies are derived in terms of the main parameters of the IPT system. For deriving precise criteria, power pad resistance is obtained by copper loss calculation and core loss analysis. Utilizing the suggested criteria, possibility of bifurcation occurrence can be predicted in the design process. In order to verify the proposed criteria, 50 W IPT laboratory prototype is fabricated and the feasibilities of the switching frequency and AC load resistance shift to escape from bifurcation are identified.

  • In this paper, the inductive power collector using electromagnetic induction for vehicle such as the PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system is suggested and some ideas for power collector design to improve the power transfer performance are presented. The proposed the inductive power collector is used for the PRT system, which has a large air-gap and demands a large electrical power capability. But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage was suggested. Also, a model of power collector and parallel winding structure and a model of concentration/decentralization winding are presented, in addition, the performance of inductive power collector to alignment condition between the primary power line and the inductive power transformer was verified by computer simulation of 2kW model.

  • We investigated the current limiting characteristics of resistive and inductive SFCLs with 100${\Omega}$ of Quench impedance for a double line-to-ground fault, in the 154 kV transmission system. The fault simulation at the phase angles $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ showed that the resistive SFCL limited the fault current less than 17 kA without any DC component after one half cycle from the instant of the fault. On the other hand, the inductive SFCL suppressed the current below 12 kA, but with 3$\sim$5 kA of DC component which decreased to zero in 6 cycles. We concluded that the inductive SFCL had higher performance in current limiting but the resistive SFCL was better from the view point of DC components.

  • In this paper, the concept of contactless inductive power transfer system used for the PRT system is suggested and some ideas for Power transformer design to improve the power transfer performance are presented.   • In this paper, we have investigated the inductive voltages, currents, frequencies of output line of electrodeless fluorescent lamp system as an surge is supplied and have analyzed the surge characteristics as an phase alteration of input voltage with an surge suppling. A result os measurement is that the inductive over-voltages(H-PE, N-PE) on output line of electrodeles fluorescent lamp system showed more high than inductive overvoltages of H(hot)-N(neutral) line. Therefore, designer of system will lay emphasis on an protective circuit with considening an overvoltage(H-PE, N-PE) or phase of input voltage.

  • In this paper, passive telemetry capacitive humidity sensor system using a RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimation) technique is proposed. To overcome the problem like power limits and complications that general passive telemetry sensor system including IC chip has, the principle of inductive coupling is applied to model the sensor system. Specially. by applying the forgetting factor we show that the accuracy of its estimation can be improved even in the case of time varying parameter and also the convergence time can be reduced.

  • In the train position defection for the rail car, which is not able to obtain the short circuit between the track circuit and the wheel, the methods by the inductive radio of non-contact type are applicated. It is represented the principles and the methods of the inductive radio train detection on MLU, Transrapid, HSST, M-Bahn, and People Mover for MAGLEV, on Kobe system for the rubber-tired vehicle, and on ICE for wheel-on-rail.

  • The existing contactless inductive coupler has many problems because of its large volume and high level of exciting current, so a new contactless inductive coupler is being required under the circumstances and the load requirement. For a contactless inductive coupler in the manufacturing equipment of semiconductor, the coupler's efficiency is low because of its small magnetic inductance and large leakage inductance. Moreover, the high frequency switching to increase energy density per unit volume increases the iron loss and the eddy current loss, so it must be considered deeply when selecting core materials. Therefore, this paper presents core materials and shape to improve the performance of the contactless inductive coupler according to the coil positions.
