  • In this paper, we proposed a high sensitivity sensor that can detect the concentration change of Nacl aqueous solutions by using a slot coupling capacitor resonator in sub-microwave band. The resonator applied to the sensor consists of a parallel plate capacitor connected to an inductive slot utilizing the ground plane of the microstrip line. Based on the measurement data of the dielectric characteristics according to the concentration change, the resonance frequency was determined in the UHF band where the concentration change is evident and the Nacl aqueous solution is inserted into the capacitor. Based on the simulation, the proposed resonator was designed and fabricated. The concentration level was varied from 0 to 400 mg/dl as 100 mg/dl step, and the transmission scattering coefficient ($S_{21}$) was successfully measured. Experimental results show that it is applicable to the concentration detection sensor in Nacl aqueous solution by obtaining minimum 1.8 dB($S_{21}$) at each step.

  • In this paper, a compact 4-bit chipless RFID(radio frequency identification) tag using a modified ELC(electric field-coupled inductive-capacitive) resonator and multiple slot resonators is proposed. The modified ELC resonator uses an interdigital-capacitor structure in the conventional ELC resonator to lower the resonance peak frequency of the RCS. The multiple slot resonators are designed by etching three slots with different lengths into an inverted U-shaped conductor. The resonant peak frequency of the RCS for the modified ELC resonator is 3.216 GHz, whereas those of the multiple slot resonators are set at 4.122 GHz, 4.64 GHz, and 5.304 GHz, respectively. The proposed compact four-bit tag is fabricated on an RF-301 substrate with dimensions of 50 mm×20 mm and a thickness of 0.8 mm. Experiment results show that the resonant peak frequencies of the fabricated four-bit chipless RFID tag are 3.285 GHz, 4.09 GHz, 4.63 GHz, and 5.31 GHz, respectively, which is similar to the simulation results with errors in the range between 0.78% and 2.16%.

  • In this paper, sub-microwave oscillator sensor is proposed to non-invasively monitor the glucose concentration level of the human biological tissue by oscillation frequency variation. Inductive slot in the ground plane of the microstrip line is combined with the biological tissue, to realize the resonator as a part of the oscillator sensor. The phantom box mimicking the human tissue is introduced for simulation of the resonator which resonance frequency correspondingly shifts up on three step glucose concentration levels(0, 400, 800 mg/dL). Oscillator sensor circuit is fabricated as a prototype. Pig tissues instead of human is used. Oscillation frequency shift of about 14 MHz per glucose level of 400 mg/dL has been successfully measured around 1,100 MHz. This proves that the proposed sensor is applicable to a blood glucose sensor.

  • In this paper, the resonator with a parallel plate capacitor is newly proposed around sub-microwave frequency band and applied to earlobe for non-invasive glucose monitoring the human biological tissue. The capacitor including the earlobe as dielectric material is connected to inductive slot in the ground plane of the microstrip line. Based on the simulation, one port resonator circuit is designed and fabricated as a prototype. Three step glucose concentration levels(0, 250, 500 mg/dL) was tested, and its reflection coefficients($S_{11}$) were measured. Owing to high Q resonator more than 100, resonant frequency shift of about 9 MHz per glucose level of 250 mg/dL has been successfully measured. This proves that the proposed sensor is applicable to a blood glucose sensor.

  • This paper presents a feeder waveguide array of slot array antennas for Direct Broadcasting from Satellite(DBS). The feed structure consists of a single waveguide placed on the same layer as radiating waveguide and is characterized by the unit divider, called a $\pi$-Junction. This K-function with an inductive wall splits part of the power into two branch waveguide through one coupling window, and can excite densely arrayed waveguide at equal phase and amplitude. The power dividing characteristics of a cascade of $\pi$ -functions are analyzed by Galerkin's method of moments. From the optimum simulation results based on the feeder waveguide using $\pi$ -Junction at 3.95GHz, we obtained the scattering matrices of the feeder divided power at 11.85CHz.

  • In this paper, a design method of the compact narrow band filter on the microstrip board is proposed using slot-type split spiral resonators. The design technique of this filter is based on cascading filter stages consisting of the combination of slot-type split spiral resonators, capacitive gaps between patches, and inductive grounded stubs with the meander configuration. By these means, it was possible to get the nearly symmetric frequency responses, adjustable bandwidths, compact sizes. And also excellent characteristic of the out-of-band rejection is achieved in contrast to the conventional filter design technique. The measured insertion loss shows good results about -3.47dB at the center frequency($f_0$=1GHz) and passband return loss is less than -12.62dB. The 3dB fractional bandwidth(FBW) is approximately 7.3%. The results of the frequency response measured on the fabricated band pass filter substrate show satisfactory agreement with the simulated frequency responses by the MWS(Microwave Studio) of CST in the region of interest.

  • In this paper, an antenna which has dipole-like radiation pattern and low profile is proposed. The antenna is composed of four elements slot array based on L-shaped 0.43 $\lambda_g$ slot element. It presents a omni-directional radiation patter in the azimuth plane and has a null toward broad-side direction. In the design, a small mono-pole antenna which acts as a large capacitance element, combined with the partially removed ground plane by four L-shaped slots. As a result, these structure act as a LC resonator for radiation. The measured result shows, the impedance bandwidth(VSWR$\leq$2) of the proposed antenna is 60 MHz(2.35$\sim$2.41 GHz). The measured maximum radiation gain and efficiency of proposed antenna is 0.02 dBi, 56.7 % at center frequency 2.38 GHz, respectively. The proposed antenna can be applied to wireless tan access point system.

  • The effects of ginseng saponins, G-Rbl and G-Rc on the rat liver LDH A-gene transcnptional activity was investigated during pro-replicative phase of rat liver after partial hepatectomy. Changes in LDH A-mRNA levels in regenerating rat liver after intraperitoneal administrations of G-Rbl of G-Rc were tested by slot blot hybridization methods. The results showed that G-Rbl (1 mg/100g B.W) and G-Rc (1 ma/100g B.W) caused marked increases of LDH A-mRNA contents by respectively 1.9- and 1.5-fold in rat liver at 5·hours after partial hepatectomy. Dose dependent effect of G-Rbl and G-Rc (1-25 mg/100g B.W) on the LDH A-mRNA levels on regenerating rat liver were also analyzed. The maximal in- creases of liver LDH A-mRNA levels were observed with the doses of 1 mg for G-Rbl and 5 mg for G-Rc However, when the administration doses of G-Kbl and G-Rc were increased to 20 mg, G-Rbl caused a marked decrease of LDH A-mRNA level to 61% of those in sham-operated rat liver In contrast, G-Rc slightly decreased the liver LDH A-mRNA contents by 30% as compared to those of the maximum value but still maintained 22% higher LDH A-mRNA levels then those of sham-operated rate liver. On the basis of these experimental results, we conclude that ginseng saponin, G-Rb 1 and G·Rc have stimulatory effect at the lower concentration (1 mg/100g B.W) and inhibitory effect at the higher concentration (20 moi loos 5.W) on the LDH A-gene transcription during regeneration of rat liver, Additionally we also investigated the stimulatory effects of ginsenosides on the protein and DNA synthetic activities in hepatocyte primary cell cultures isolated from regenerating rat liver. Both of G·Rc and -Re increased the synthetic rates of hepatocytes proteins and DNA at the administration doses of 50 ug and 100 ug/3 ml/dish respectively representing 1.3-1.6 fold increases. From these results we postulate that G-Rc and -Re may have a mitogen enhancer activity for the hepatocyte proliferation during rat liver regeneration period. • In this paper, a novel electrically small monopole type resonant antenna is proposed. The very short length monopole (${\iota}{\approx}{\lambda}_g/15$ ) acts as a capacitive element and the slot on the ground structure acts as an inductive element, hence the combined system with these two elements thus form an LC resonator. The equivalent circuit model of the antenna structure was used to analysis and qualify the design correctness. Although the proposed antenna has very small size, it shows good performances. The measured maximum gain and radiation efficiency of the fabricated antenna at the frequency of 2.1 GHz was 3.6 dBi and 77.8 %, respectively.
