  • Indoor location system using wireless sensor network technology was applied for the status evaluation and activity monitoring of elderly person or chronic invalid at home. Location awareness application is transparent to the daily activities, while providing the embedded computing infrastructure with an awareness of what is happening in this space. To locate an object, the active ceiling-mounted reference beacons were placed throughout the building. Reference beacons periodically publish location information on RF and ultrasonic signals to allow application running on mobile or static nodes to study and determine their physical location. Once object-carried passive listener receives the information, it subsequently determines it's location from reference beacons. By using only the sensor nodes without any external network infrastructure the cost of the system was reduced while the accuracy in our experiments. was fairly good and fine grained between 7 and 15 cm for location awareness in indoor environments. Passive architecture used here provides the security of the user privacy while at the server the privacy was secured by providing the authentication using Geopriv approach. This information from sensor nodes is further forwarded to base station where further computation is performed to determine the current position of object and several applications are enabled for context awareness.

  • This paper presents the method for location estimation with obstacle tracking method. A laser scanner is used to implement the system, and we assume that the map information is known. We matches the measurement of the laser scanner to estimate the location of the robot by using sequential monte carlo (SMC) method. After estimating the robot's location, the pose of obstacles are detected and tracked, hence, we can predict the collision risk of them. Finally, we present the experiment results to verify the proposed method.

  • RFID technology is a technology perceiving information with the device called reader and tag which is now used in public transportation such as Hi-pass. In this paper, we design a system which tracks indoor location using this technology. GPS, the most frequently used location-tracking system, has a defect that its accuracy decreases when the device is indoor. In suggested experiment, we simulate signals according to the moving of located objects, then compare with the result of the experiment. Based on the extracted data, we inform data which is for the purpose of tracking system based on analysis of the route and errors. Simulations for the tracking were performed with relocation of real objects. In the real experiment, we arrange the readers around the room and move the tagged object that we like to know the location, then analyze the data from the equipment. This paper suggests the analyzed data for the future indoor tag tracking applications. We expect that the RFID based location positioning data will be used for other indoor positioning research and development.

  • Recently, research on indoor locating techniques using smart device sensors has been conducted actively, Owing to the exponential increase in the use of various smart devices. However, in order to develop indoor location techniques, there are limitations due to the requirement that the tracking system has to function without GPS. In this paper, we propose an accurate indoor locating system that does not require additional infrastructure. The proposed scheme is developed based on the idea that the advantages and disadvantages of "Wi-Fi Fingerprinting" and "Step Detection" techniques are complementary. In the proposed scheme, we track users with "Step Detection," and correct errors with "Wi-Fi Fingerprinting." In this paper, we demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed scheme through experiments.

  • This paper proposed to recognize and tracking the ID and location when a person and objects moved from indoor using RFID a type of passive tag. An antenna was installed in both sides of a door due to the limitation of a recognition distance. And frequency bandwidth was used to the 134.2kHz bandwidth to pass and bend several obstacles. Because a type of passive tag is a semi -permanent and miniaturization, it has applied to this paper.

  • Current indoor intrusion detection and location tracking methods have the weakness in seamless operations in tracking the objective because the object must possess a communicating device and the limitation of the single cell size (approximate $100cm{\times}100cm$) exits. Also, the utilization of CCTV technologies show the shortcomings in tracking when the object disappear the area where the CCTV is not installed or illumination is not enough for capturing the scene (e.g. where the context-awarded system is not installed or low illumination presents). Therefore, in this paper we present an improved in-door tracking system based on sensor networks. Such system is built on a simulated scenario and enables us to detect and extend the area of surveillance as well as actively responding the emergency situation. Through simulated studies, we have demonstrated that the proposed system is capable of supplementing the shortcomings of signal cutting, and of estimating the location of the moving object. We expect the study will improve the better analysis of the intruder behavior, the more effective prevention and flexible response to various emergency situations.

  • Cricket is an excellent indoor location system and it can successfully solve many critical problems such as user privacy, decentralized administration. But in some practical applications, Cricket sometimes didn't provide location with enough accuracy, and was unable to determine when it was giving inaccurate information. For getting high-accuracy tracking performance from location data contaminated with noise, some types of filters are required. Kalman Filter is an efficient recursive filter that estimates the state of a dynamic system from a series of incomplete and noisy measurement. The filter is very powerful in the field of autonomous and assisted navigation. In this paper, we carry out comparative studies to validate the performance of the application of Kalman Filter to Cricket based localization system.

  • The real-time tracking system is an essential factor for the development of low cost sensor networks for use in pervasive computing and ubiquitous networking. In this paper, we address the interference problems of the sensor network platform with ultrasonic for location tracking system. Ubiquitous indoor environments often contain substantial amounts of metal and other such reflective materials that affect the propagation of radio frequency signals in non-trivial ways, causing severe multi-path effects, dead-spots, noise, and interference. Especially we present a novel reducing interference location system that is particularly well suited to support context-aware computing. The system called Pharos, aims to combine the advantages of real-time tracking systems that implement distributed environment with regardless of infrastructure or infrastructure-less wireless sensor networks.

  • In this paper, the Location Compensation Mechanism using equivalent distance rate ($LCM_{edr}$) for localization system based on SDS-TWR (Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) in wireless sensor network is proposed. The performance of the mechanism is experimented in terms of two types of the localization tracking scenarios of indoor and outdoor environments in university campus. From the experimentations, the compensation ratio in the $LCM_{edr}$ is better than that in SDS-TWR about 90% in indoor/outdoor environments in scenario 1 but also is better than that of SDS-TWR about 91.7% in indoor environment and about 100% in outdoor environment in scenario 2 respectively.

  • Despite the increasing popularity of wireless sensor network, indoor positioning using low power IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio had attracted an interest of many researchers in the last decade. Old fashionable indoor location sensing information has been presented in dull and unpleasant 2D image standard. This paper focused on visualizing high precision 3 dimensional RSSI-based (received signal strength indication) spatial sensing information in an interactive virtual reality on PDA. The developed system operates by capturing and extracting signal strength information at multiple pre-defined reference nodes to provide information in the area of interest, thus updating user's location in 3D indoor virtual map. VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) which specifically developed for 3D objects modeling is utilized to design 3D indoor environment.
