The construction of virtual indoor spaces is crucial for the development of metaverses, virtual production, and other 3D content domains. Traditional methods for creating these spaces are often cost-prohibitive and labor-intensive. To address these challenges, we present a pipeline for generating digital twins of real indoor environments from RGB-D camera-scanned data. Our pipeline synergizes space structure estimation, 3D object detection, and the inpainting of missing areas, utilizing deep learning technologies to automate the creation process. Specifically, we apply deep learning models for object recognition and area inpainting, significantly enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of virtual space construction. Our approach minimizes manual labor and reduces costs, paving the way for the creation of metaverse spaces that closely mimic real-world environments. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our deep learning applications in overcoming traditional obstacles in digital twin creation, offering high-fidelity digital replicas of indoor spaces. This advancement opens for immersive and realistic virtual content creation, showcasing the potential of deep learning in the field of virtual space construction.

The common life with modern urban residence, spending more than 80~90% of daily life in indoor environment, makes the importance of indoor air quality (IAQ) even higher. Many efforts have made to improve indoor air quality (IAQ), which requires those systematic approaches for field practice. A recent study reported that no general approach cannot be made for IAQ improvement due to the great deal of variety in different indoor environments. Those indoor spaces included in Korean IAQ regulation were classified based on their characteristics and the IAQ guideline was suggested for each group of indoor spaces. Apart from those indoor spaces, the classroom in elementary school has different characteristics. By introducing the systematic approaches, the elementary classroom was surveyed and analyzed to understand its characteristics in due IAQ consideration. Based on the characteristics, there are several IAQ control measures suggested, including ventilation operation, dust mat installation, and white board. $CO_2$ and airborne dust were monitored and analyzed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of each control measure to IAQ. It was found that the general level of $CO_2$ concentration was managed under the IAQ guideline by applying the ventilator operation. The ventilation was also effective to the fugitive airborne particulate in elementary classroom environment.

Indoor space has been one of the focal points for geospatial research as various factors such as increasing demands for application and demand for adaptive response in emergencies have arisen. IndoorGML (Indoor Geography Markup Language) has provided a standardized method of representing the topological aspect of micro-scale environments, with its extensive specifications and flexible applicability. However, as more real-world problems and needs demand attention, suggestions to improve this standard, such as representing IndoorPOI (Indoor Points of Interest), have arisen. Hence, existing algorithms and functionalities that we use on perceiving these indoor spaces must also adapt to accommodate said improvements. In this study, we explore how to define spatial neighborhoods in indoor spaces represented by an integrated IndoorGML and IndoorPOI data. We revisit existing approaches to combine the aforementioned datasets and refine previous approaches to perform neighborhood spatial queries in 3D. We implement the proposed algorithm in three use cases using sample datasets representing a real-world structure to demonstrate its effectiveness for performing indoor spatial analysis.
The purpose of this research is to characterize formaldehyde as trace toxic air pollutant in the underground spaces in Gyungnam province. Air samples of formaldehyde were taken in the three underground spaces for ten months from April 2003 to January 2004. The IAQ(Indoor Air Quality) of underground spaces were controled using central ventilation(supply/exhaust) system. The levels of GM of airborne formaldehyde concentrations in three sampling spaces were well below applicable standards, Korean Ministry of Environment, 0.1 ppm. However, some sample of airborne formaldehyde concentrations in underground spaces 'B' and 'C' were in excess of standard, due to the commercial products in shop, structural material, and the climate having high humidity and temperature. There are statistical differences in levels of formaldehyde by sampling spaces (p=0.086).
This study examined the indoor exercise environment use and needs of older adults. The target population was seniors aged 60 years and older living in a newly developed apartment complex. Variables include demographic and housing characteristics, status of exercise, and indoor exercise environmental evaluation and needs. A total of 102 data items were analyzed using frequency, t-test and ANOVA. Noteworthy results are as below. First, community centers and community welfare centers were the most desirable exercise environments because of affordability, exercise programs/spaces. Such exercise environments should be developed in more locations for increasing numbers of seniors. Second, indoor exercise environments need to be improved based on seniors' physical capabilities and environmental behavior. Third, supportive spaces such as restrooms, shower rooms, locker rooms should be carefully designed. Fourth, seniors wanted to have walking trails and indoor swimming pools, the most desirable exercise spaces, within ten to 15 minutes walking distance.
With the overall revision of the Welfare of the Aged Act in 1997, elderly welfare facilities have developed differently according to the size of locality, capacity, and social and economic characteristics. In response to the problem, various plans are being executed for expanding services and facilities for the aged. However, such efforts by the government have been focused on quantitative increase rather than on qualitative improvement, and there are not many high-quality elderly welfare facilities that meet the needs of the consumers, namely, the aged. In contrast, elderly welfare centers in Japan began to be founded from the 1960s and increased significantly from the 1970s and, as a result, 2,214 elderly welfare centers were in operation in 1995, maintaining a high level in quantity as well as in quality. Therefore, the present study surveyed using a checklist how elderly welfare centers in Japan, which are playing central roles in welfare facility services for the aged in Japan, design their indoor spaces reflecting elders' behavior and characteristics and, based on the results of the survey, classified spaces into shared spaces and individual service spaces and analyzed the spaces of each center using the checklist. The results from this case study will be used as basic data to establish standards for the space composition of elderly welfare facilities in Korea, which has 10 years' short history of elderly welfare facilities.

For the performance experiments of databases systems with moving object databases, we need moving object trajectory data sets. For example, benchmark data sets of moving object trajectories are required for experiments on query processing of moving object databases. For those reasons, several tools have been developed for generating moving objects in Euclidean spaces or road network spaces. Indoor space differs from outdoor spaces in many aspects and moving object generator for indoor space should reflect these differences. Even some tools were developed to produce virtual moving object trajectories in indoor space, the movements generated by them are not realistic. In this paper, we present a moving object generation tool for indoor space. First, this tool generates trajectories for pedestrians in an indoor space. And it provides a parametric generation of trajectories considering not only speed, number of pedestrians, minimum distance between pedestrians but also type of spaces, time constraints, and type of pedestrians. We try to reflect the patterns of pedestrians in indoor space as realistic as possible. For the reason of interoperability, several geospatial standards are used in the development of the tool.

Mold grows more easily when humidity is higher in indoor spaces, and as such is found more often on wetted areas in housing such as walls, toilets, kitchens, and poorly managed spaces. However, there have been few studies that have specifically assessed the level of mold in the indoor spaces of water-damaged housing in the Republic of Korea. We investigated the levels of airborne mold according to the characteristics of water damage types and explored the correlation between the distribution of mold genera and the characteristics of households. Samplings were performed from January 2016 to June 2018 in 97 housing units with water leakage or condensation, or a history of flooding, and in 61 general housing units in the metropolitan and Busan area, respectively. Airborne mold was collected on MEA (Malt extract agar) at flow rate of 100 L/min for 1 min. After collection, the samples were incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 120 hours. The cultured samples were counted and corrected using a positive hole conversion table. The samples were then analyzed by single colony culture, DNA extraction, gene amplification, and sequencing. By type of housing, concentrations of airborne mold were highest in flooded housing, followed by water-leaked or highly condensed housings, and then general housing. In more than 50% of water-damaged housing, the level of airborne mold exceeded the guideline of Korea's Ministry of Environment ($500CFU/m^3$). Of particular concern was the fact that the I/O ratio of water-damaged housing was greater than 1, which could indicate that mold damage may occur indoors. The distribution patterns of the fungal species were as follows: Penicillium spp., Cladosporium spp. (14%), Aspergillus spp. (13%) and Alternaria spp. (3%), but significant differences of their levels in indoor spaces were not found. Our findings indicate that high levels of mold damage were found in housing with water damage, and Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium brevicompactum were more dominant in housing with high water activity. Comprehensive management of flooded or water-damaged housing is necessary to reduce fungal exposure.

Recently, human activities have expanded from outdoor spaces to indoor spaces since a lot of complex buildings were constructed over the world. Especially, visitors in a shopping mall would like to receive specific information of interest regarding various shopping-related activities as well as shopping itself. However, when it comes to providing the information, existing guide services have some drawbacks. Firstly, the existing services cannot provide visitors with the information of other stores simply and promptly on the current location. Secondly, the services have difficulties in representation and share of the shopping-related knowledge, and in providing inferred information. Thus, the purpose of this study is to develop a method that allows topological analysis utilizing ontology technique around the current position in such shopping mall in order to provide shopping-related information. For this, the shopping activity ontology model is designed, and based on the ontology model, inferencing rules are defined in order to extract the information of interest efficiently through semantic queries. Also, a geocoding method in indoor spaces is used regarding the current location, and optimal routing analysis, which is one of topological analysis, is applied with the result from the semantic queries. As a result, an Android application is developed for 3D visualization and user interface.
