Impact of the human body in wireless propagation of medical implants for tumor detection

  • This paper analyses the feasibility of using implantable antennas to detect and monitor tumors. We analyze this setting according to the wireless propagation loss and signal fading produced by human bodies and their environment in an indoor scenario. The study is based on the ITU-R propagation recommendations and prediction models for the planning of indoor radio communication systems and radio local area networks in the frequency range of 300 MHz to 100 GHz. We conduct primary estimations on 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz operating frequencies. The path loss presented in most short-range wireless implant devices does not take into account the human body as a channel itself, which causes additional losses to wireless designs. In this paper, we examine the propagation through the human body, including losses taken from bones, muscles, fat, and clothes, which results in a more accurate characterization and estimation of the channel. The results obtained from our simulation indicates a variation of the return loss of the spiral antenna when a tumor is located near the implant. This knowledge can be applied in medical detection, and monitoring of early tumors, by analyzing the electromagnetic field behavior of the implant. The tumor was modeled under CST Microwave Studio, using Wisconsin Diagnosis Breast Cancer Dataset. Features like the radius, texture, perimeter, area, and smoothness of the tumor are included along with their label data to determine whether the external shape has malignant or benign physiognomies. An explanation of the feasibility of the system deployment and technical recommendations to avoid interference is also described.

Implementation of ZUPT on RPA Navigation System for GNSS Denied Ground Test

  • In this paper, Zero velocity UPdaTe (ZUPT) is implemented on the navigation system of Remotely Piloted Aircraft for GNSS denied environment. RPA's navigation system suffers from lack or loss of satellite signal while maintenance or ground test inside a hangar. Although some of the hangars install GPS repeaters for indoor tests, the anti-jamming equipment with array antenna blocks the repeater signal regarding them as hostile jamming signal. With ZUPT, an aircraft navigation system can be tested free from the divergence of navigation solution without line-of-sight satellites. The designed ZUPT aided centralized Kalman Filter is implemented on the Embedded GPS&INS and simulated with Captive Flight Test data. The simulation result shows stable navigation solution without GNSS updates.

  • For combating multipath fading in wireless radio environment, diversity schemes is useful. In this paper, for performance improvement of polarization diversity system, we analyzed a two-branch polarization diversity at the receiving end of a mobile link when the transmitter emits a circularly polarized wave. And In order to calculate the correlation coefficient considering the XPD(cross polarization discrimination) between the received signals for the two diversity branches, a simple theoretical model of circular polarization diversity is adopted and calculate correlation coefficient. From the analysis results, it is seen that the correlation coefficient of circular polarization diversity evaluated by the XPD is less than that of vertical polarization diversity. And also, we designed and fabricated circular polarization diversity system with microstrip antenna. we analyzed data measured in indoor NLOS environment using fabricated circular polarization diversity system. From the measurement results, it is clearly seen that the diversity effect of circular polarization diversity system is higher 3dB than vertical polarization diversity system.

  • This paper shows a feasibility analysis results on RFID for car positioning system. Usually, a car navigation is mainly based on GPS combined with map-matching. However, in the case of poor visibility of satellites, GPS can not supply accurate position information continuously. In recent years, RFID has been considered to be one of key technologies in positioning and localization area. But its application and research results in the area of vehicular positioning are not popular. RFID system consists of tag, reader, antenna and software such as drivers and middleware. The main function of RFID system in a vehicular positioning is to retrieve ID recorded position information from tags which set on the center of road. We propose a positioning method for vehicles using RFID and we present some indoor and outdoor experiment results to show that the proposed method is available in vehicle operational environments.

  • In order to investigate the radiation characteristics of unmixed line noise from overhead high voltage AC transmission lines, a gap noise generator was manufactured. Disk size which decides capacitance between the noise generator and earth was selected through preliminary indoor experiments and analysis by charge simulation method. The capacitance is one of principal parameters related to inject a proper noise current into lines. The field experiments were performed with the noise generator installed in Kochang 765 kV full scale test line. As the results, the useful data which can be used to analysis the radiation characteristics of noise from transmission lines was obtained. Those are lateral profiles the directivity of antenna toward lines, frequency spectra and so on.

  • Currently, wireless communication environment in high-rise buildings are limited in the basement and ground floor facilities are not in common use do not part, in case of disaster is difficult for efficient repression. In this paper, wireless communication facilities on the ground floor of the skyscraper by building infrastructure, wireless communications is proposed to eliminate shadows. That the presence of various wireless communication systems, wireless communication system proposed by this paper, TPS laying coaxial cable seals leak, and the propagation shades in place by installing indoor antenna is the solution to eliminate shadows. The wireless communications solutions reveal the advantages and features, a method of constructing the proposed design.

  • A direction finding system test-bed(DFSTB) at the electronic warfare communication-band is presented to efficiently evaluate and optimize the performance of the direction finding system through the indoor test setup. This test-bed gives a significant benefit to the designers of the direction finding system because it allows flexible test and design trade-off in the system design cycle. The system description and implementation of test-bed architecture, and the experiment results of direction finding accuracy according to modulation schemes are presented.

  • The SSPA makes the power level of EIRP up to 16W, and compensates for temperature to the SSPA´s maximum stability. The up and the down converters are dually conversed like as individual synthesizers for selecting of independent transmit-receive transponder. The function of the up-converter is to convert the 70MHz IF signal modulated in the indoor unit modem into a 14.0 ∼ 14.5 GHz Ku-band up-link signal to be sent to the antenna. The down-converter converts the 12.25 ∼ 12.75 GHz Ku-band down-link signal or a trouble malfunction of SSPA may be a fatal factor to operation of the whole satellite communication network.   • 본 논문에서는 2 GHz LS 대역에서 동작하는 역지향성 능동배열 안테나가 설계 제작되었다. 역지향성 안테나는 임의의 방향에서 입사하는 전파를 그 방향으로 되돌려 복사시키는 안테나 배열 시스템으로서, 반사파가 입사 반대 방향으로 파면(wave front)을 갖도록 하기 위한 공액 위상변위기가 포함된 능동 안테나 배열로 구성된다. 본 연구에서는 RF/IF 신호포트와 LO 포트로 이루어진 2-포트 게이트 HEMT 혼합기와 1/4파장 모노폴 안테나 배열($1{\times}4$)을 사용하여 역지향성 능동배열 안테나를 구현하였다. 제작된 배열 안테나의 역지향 특성을 실험 측정하고, 이론적 예측치와 비교하여 잘 일치함을 확인하였다. 모노폴 안테나 배열은 구조가 간단하여 제작이 용이한 장점을 가지며, 본 연구결과는 무선 이동통신, 무선 실내 LAN 및 RFID등의 기지국 및 트랜스폰더 장치에 직접 적용 가능하다.

IR-UWB 레이더 환경에서 적응형 다중 목표물 추정 알고리즘 (Adaptive Multi-target Estimation Algorithm in an IR-UWB Radar Environment)

  • 본 논문은 투과성이 좋고 실내 환경에 강건하며, 수십 센티미터(cm) 급의 고정밀 측위가 가능하다는 점에서 주목 받고 있는 IR-UWB(Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) 레이더 시스템에서 신호의 특성을 이용한 적응형 다중 목표물 추정 알고리즘을 제안한다. 목표물에 의해 반사되는 신호는 Peak를 갖는 다는 특성으로 다중의 Peak를 추정하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이러한 알고리즘의 성능을 확인하기 위해서 레이더 앞에 다중 목표물을 두고 기존의 기법과 다중 목표물 추정 알고리즘을 비교하였다. 하나의 송신 안테나와 수신안테나로 목표물들의 위치를 실시간으로 추정한다. 기존의 최고 신호 도출 방식에 비해 추정할 수 있는 수가 늘어나고 다중으로 목표물 도출이 가능하다. 기존의 기법은 하나의 목표물만 추정하다보니 평균 제곱 오차가 1이 나오는 반면 다중 목표물 추정 알고리즘은 약 0.05의 결과가 도출된다. 본 논문에서 제시한 기법은 하나의 IR-UWB 모듈 환경에서 다중의 목표물을 추정 및 응용에 적용할 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.
