  • Modern people stay at indoor places about 90% of a day. Radon-222 is a gas produced radioactive decay of the element radium. And, radon is one of the major indoor air pollutants moves into the underground space through various routes and is considered to cause lung c hurting the lung tissues, In this study, we measured the subway radon level at 9 stations o According to test results, we can figure out the concentration of radon by lines, times, and m points. So, it was found that ventilation conditions are the most important factors in the su quality. Finally, we suggested effective and economic management methods of air pollution subway.

  • Indoor air quality becomes of a concern recently in view of human health. This study investigates the air diffusion performance and the air change efficiency of a classroom, when outdoor air is introduced in two different ways in addition to the heating/cooling operation of a ceiling-mounted heat pump. A CFD analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of the discharge angle of the air jets from the heat pump for both parallel and series types of outdoor air system. It is observed that the series type creates more uniform indoor environment compared to the parallel type in general. It can be concluded the discharge angle should not be larger than 40o for the parallel type, in order not to generate thermal stratification in the room.

  • The air-side particulate fouling in the heat exchangers of HVAC applications degrades the performance of cooling capacity, pressure drop across a heat exchanger, and indoor air quality. Indoor and outdoor air contaminants foul heat exchangers. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cooling performance and pressure drop on the air-side particulate fouling of heat exchangers for air conditioners. Air conditioners being used in the field such as inn, restaurant, and office are collected in chronological used order. Test results show 15% decrease of the cooling capacity and 44% increase of the pressure drop for the 7 years air conditioners used in the seaside inn.

  • The purpose of this study are to evaluate the dwelling quality of rural houses constructed with industrialized wall structures(ALC; Autoclaved Light weight Concrete, SRC; Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete, ST'L; Steel Framed Insulating Panel), and to establish a method of dwelling quality evaluation. The questionnaire survey by mail was done, for investigating the residents' responses to indoor environment, durability, and economic aspect. The respondents are 118 residents living in rural houses constructed with industrialized wall structures. Physical elements of indoor environment(temperature, humidity, air quality, and noise level) were measured in three sample houses, which were selected considering of architectural characteristics. The findings are as follows; 1) As a result of questionnaire survey, residents' responses to dwelling quality are generally positive. 2) As a result of measurement, indoor environments of sample houses are in relatively comfortable condition. 3) As a summary of research, ALC and ST'L are evaluated as recommendable structures for a rural house.

  • In modern buildings, the air-tightness and insulation for energy saving resulted in degradation of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ). It has brought out new diseases such as New Building Syndrome(NBS) and Sick Building Syndrome(SBS) to the tenants of such buildings. As a result, researches on the Dynamic Breathing Building(DBB) are being undertaken to minimize energy loss as well as to improve IAQ. DBB is a state-of-the-art technology to build channels inside the wall so that air migrates between indoor and outdoor, which improves insulation performance and IAQ. This study attempts to evaluate the improvement of DBB employed in real buildings. As analyzing tools, IAQ improvement and particle degradation while were evaluated while the required indoor ventilation rate was satisfied. DBB were installed in the twin test cells at Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER). From the test, IAQ was compared with outdoor air base on the concentration of particle matter(PM10). As a results, the concentration of particle dust (PM10) within the breathing walls was reduced by 80% at 0.7 ACH, 67% at 2 ACH, 63% at 3 ACH respectively. As ACH is higher, Dnamic Isulation(DI) and normal wall permit more PM10 particles being infiltrated.
