일부 학교 내 총부유세균 및 미세먼지의 상관성 비교 (Comparison of Correlation between Total Airborne Bacteria and Particulate Matter in University Spaces)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess indoor air quality within and around buildings and evaluate the health risks associated with exposure to indoor air pollution. The study compares IAQ standards established by the World Health Organization with those set by South Korea's Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education. Methods: The study utilized an Anderson Sampler and DustTrakTM II to collect samples of total airborne bacteria and PM in indoor and outdoor environments. Collected samples were analyzed using biological and biochemical methods. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS to examine the correlation between airborne bacteria and PM. Results: The study revealed that the concentration of total airborne bacteria in indoor air generally remained below the Ministry of Environment's standard of 800 CFU/m3, although it surpassed this threshold in certain instances. PM concentrations did not exceed the standards. Indoor fine dust concentration was higher when there were people (P<0.05). There was no difference in total floating bacterial concentrations between indoor and outdoor environments (P=0.184). Finally, there was a correlation between fine dust and airborne bacteria concentrations. Conclusion: The study evaluated the concentrations of total airborne bacteria and PM in indoor air, emphasizing the importance of managing IAQ. Further research in various environments is essential to ensure a healthy indoor environment. The findings underscore the need for ongoing research and management to enhance IAQ and create safer and healthier living environments.

  • This paper alms to describe the indoor-outdoor air quality in school environment through the analyses of heavy metal concentration by inductively Coupled Plasma(ICPI, which were observed at some school environment, such as traffic area, industrial area seme-industrial area, and residence area. The results are as follows : (1) Regardless Indoor and outdoor, the area with the highest concentration of heavy metal is industrial area followed by traffic area, residence area and semi-industrial area in descending order of magnitude. And the heavy metal concentration of indoor is higher than that of outdoor. (2) The main heavy metal components with more high level concentration of Indoor than those of outdoor are Zn, Al, Ca and these heavy metal concentrations are higher in class than In corridor and outdoor.

  • More than 7 million people use the Seoul metropolitan subway network daily. This number tends to increase due to the increase of oil price. Indoor air quality of electrical multiple unit (EMU) is strongly affected by outdoor air quality, however, indoor thermal comfort is subjected to heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system of EMU. In general, air temperature, humidity, air velocity, surface temperature, and illumination are key parameters affecting thermal comfort of passenger. It is known that the well-designed HVAC system should improve the thermal comfort of passengers and should increase the energy efficiency of HVAC system also. In this study, we analyzed the thermal comfort of advanced EMU developed by Korea Railroad Research Institute by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in order to find the optimum HVAC system which can improve thermal comfort of passengers with a minimal energy use.

업무용 빌딩 소재 사무실의 실내환기 평가 (Assessment of indoor ventilation in commercial office buildings)

  • In winter season, the survey was performed in three commercial office buildings in the metropolitan Seoul, Pusan, and Gwangju city. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate the effectiveness of ventilation for offices in commercial buildings. The data were compared to standard of applicable to the indoor ventilation in office. The results indicated that the most commercial office buildings used the air handing unit and fan coil unit as HVAC system, and the intake amount of fresh outdoor air were very inadequate to compared to the ASHRAE standard value of $0.57\;m^3/min/person$. Also the surveyed all commercial office building used the HVAC system as a meas of controlling temperature for office indoor air. Ultimately, these results presented that there were possibility of evoking indoor air quality problems by the insufficient ventilation.

  • As professional postnatal care systems have been rapidly supplied, there is sharp increase of postnatal care centers without legal regulations for a mother and a infant. For the quick recovery of mothers, newborn infants that have weaker immune systems are being managed in group in the postnatal care centers. Recently, the attention of the postnatal care centers has been growing because the problem of pneumonia which led to result in a casuality in a infant unit was happen. So, this research analyzed the indoor environment of infant unit through measuring formaldehyde, carbon dioxide, intensity of illumination. As a result of the data, infant units showed higher concentration of formaldehyde and carbon dioxide than Indoor Air Quality Control Law. Moreover, infant units was measured higher intensity of illumination than the range of optimum illumination for infants.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing interest in natural radioactive gas radon(Rn-222), the problem of indoor air quality pollution to worldwide. It has been scientifically proven to be hazardous to various diseases such as lung cancer and skin cancer if the human body is exposed to long-term accumulation of atomic nuclei due to the destruction of radon and alpha lines. Based on the indoor air quality control policy, this study is a basic experiment in the manufacture of a selective elimination function to containing radon adsorption and reduction of radon concentration, which is used to absorb radioactive isotopes such as phosphorus and radon in indoor environment.

실내오염물질 정화를 위한 수생식물의 이용가능성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Potential of Aquatic Plants to Remove Indoor Air Pollutants)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of aquatic plant as a botanical air purification on the indoor air pollution by formaldehyde. Three aquatic plants such as Eichhornia crassipes, Cyperus alternifolius, Echinodorus cordifolius, were selected for this study and they were placed in the artificially contaminated chamber under laboratory condition. The results showed that all three plants could remove the formaldehyde from the contaminated air system effectively. Reduction in the formaldehyde levels by Eichhornia crassipes, which is the floating plant, might be associated with the factors of plant and water. Reduction in the formaldehyde levels by Cyperus helferi and Echinodorus cordifolius, which were emergent plant, was due to the complex effect of plant, soil medium and water. In aquatic plant system, dissolution, microbial degradation in rhizosphere, uptake through root and shoot, sorption to soil and shoot, hydrolysis are known as the main mechanisms of water soluble pollutants in the given system. The advantages of indoor air quality control system using aquatic plants can be; 1) various purifying mechanisms than foliage plants, 2) effective for decontamination of water soluble pollutants; 3) easy for maintenance; 4) diverse application potential. Therefore it was suggested from the results that indoor air control system of aquatic plants should be more effective for reduction of indoor air pollutants.

울산지역 초등학생 가정의 실내공기질: 알레르기 비염 환아군과 대조군 비교 (Indoor Air Quality in Elementary School Children's Homes in Ulsan: Comparison between Groups with and without Allergic Rhinitis)

  • This study compared indoor air quality of homes in which elementary school children with and without (case and control) allergic rhinitis live in the Ulsan metropolitan region (UMR). A total of 58 homes (case and control: 29, respectively; children aged 7 to 12 years) was selected for indoor air quality measurements. The concentrations of all general indoor air pollutants, except $PM_{2.5}$, in the case group were much higher than those in the control group. In particular, the average concentrations of $O_3$ and $NO_2$ in the case group were statistically significantly (p<0.05) higher than those in the control group. Average concentrations of $CO_2$ in the case and control groups and $NO_2$ in the case group exceeded the standard level. Some components of aldehydes and ketones and VOCs indicated large difference of average concentrations between two groups, but there were no statistically significant differences.

대구지역 신축학교 실내공기 중 카보닐화합물의 농도 특성 평가 (The Characterization of Carbonyl Compounds in the Newly-Built Schools, Daegu City)

  • The study on school indoor air quality was carried out at classrooms, computer-rooms, laboratories and play- grounds for carbonyl compounds including formaldehyde during the winter time from November to December 2004 and during the summer time from June to July 2005. The sampling was conducted under the general school condition without any artificial intervention such as the sealing, ventilating or heating at indoor environments. The concentrations of formaldehyde at all types of indoor environments were lower than air quality standard of $120{\mu}g/m^3$ for public facilities. The mean concentrations of formaldehyde at indoors were $4.5{\sim}6.1$ times higher than those at outdoors. From the comparison between two year and one year old schools after construction, the concentrations of formaldehyde in two year old school were $30{\sim}38%$ lower than those in one year old school measured at classrooms and laboratories.

신축사무실 내 식물 적용 후 재실자 안구 증상 및 실내공기질 평가 (Assessment of Indoor Air Quality and the Eye Symptom of Occupants in Newly-built Office Building after Planting Indoor Plants)

  • 목적: 본 연구에서는 신축사무실 건물 및 재실자를 대상으로 식물적용에 따른 안구건조 증상 및 실내공기질 등에 대한 변화를 평가하고자 하였다. 방법: 세종시 정부청사 신축건물 및 사무실 재실자를 대상으로 하였다. 식물적용에 따라 실내공기질을 측정하였으며, 휘발성유기화합물류와 알데하이드류 및 온 습도를 측정하여 평가하였다. 안구건조 증상은 Ocular surface disease index(OSDI)를 이용하여 정상, 경도, 중등도, 및 중증으로 분류하여 측정하였다. 결과: 식물적용사무실에서 휘발성유기화합물류의 감소율이 다소 높게 나타나 식물적용으로 인한 저감효과가 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 식물적용 재실자에서 새건물증후군 증상 점수가 점차적으로 감소하였고, 식물미적용사무실 재실자에서는 새건물증후군 증상 점수가 상승하였다. 재실자의 안구건조설문결과에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 관찰되지 않았다. 결론: 식물적용 사무실 내 유해물질의 감소효과가 있었고, 재실자를 통한 설문조사결과 안구건조 및 새건물증후군 증상에 긍정적인 효과는 있었다. 개인의 민감도 등에 의한 차이 및 현장조사로 인한 연구의 제한점 등을 보완한 장기 연구가 필요하다.
