  • Normal growth and development is of prime concern during childhood. The treatment of children with growth hormone deficiency has been revolutionized by growth hormone therapy. An improved height outcome with a final height within the target height range has been achieved. However, close follow-up with regular clinical and laboratory monitoring is essential for achieving the desirable height outcome. The theoretical unlimited supply of growth hormone has led to its wide spread use in a variety of disorders other than a growth hormone deficiency. Initially used in children with Turner syndrome, growth hormone is now used to treat chronic renal failure, an idiopathic short stature and intrauterine growth restrictions in addition to a wide array of newly emerging indications. This review summarizes the basics for a proper growth assessment, the differentiation of normal and abnormal growth causes of a short stature, and the indications for growth hormone treatment.

  • Antibiotic is one of the mainly prescribed drugs in dental office. The substantial part of all antibiotics used in dental office is given to patients without signs or symptoms of infection to prevent infections, and antibiotics became the most widely abused prescribed drugs on the basis of inappropriate indications, dosages and durations. Considering that antibiotics are one of the drugs that affect not only a single patient but also entire populations of individuals through their collective effects on microbial ecology, the importance of proper use of antimicrobial therapy can hardly be overemphasized. Therefore, the main considerations for antibiotic therapy in denial office were summarized here.

  • The number of papers discussing probiotics increases tremendously that limits the possibility for primary care physicians and clinicians to stay updated. Therefore, the aim of this paper will be to summarize available evidence of probiotic use in well-defined clinical indications of importance for pediatricians. Based on currently available evidence certain probiotic strains (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG [LGG] and Saccharomyces boulardii) have proven effect in the treatment of acute gastroenteritis and prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhea. Furthermore, LGG was proven to be effective in prevention of nosocomial diarrhea and respiratory tract infection in day care centers. In conclusion, not all probiotic strains have same efficacy for all clinical indications, therefore, only strains with proven efficacy and safety should be recommended.

  • There are two basic concepts in industrial radiographic examination; one is a radio-graphic sensitivity, and the other is a acceptance criteria. The comparison of these main points are studied for KS Standard and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. From the results of the experiment, higher radiographic sensitivity is required in KS Standard when the thickness of material to be examined is less than 20mm in single wall technique. The acceptance criteria for linear type indications are described on same concept in two standards, whereas the acceptance criteria for rounded indications of KS Standard which mainly depends upon the object thickness are more severe than those of ASME BPV Code.
