An Improved Topology for the Current Fed Parallel Resonant Half Bridge Circuits Used in Fluorescent Lamp Electronic Ballasts

  • An improvement in the current fed parallel resonant half bridge (CFPRHB) circuits used in fluorescent lamp electronic ballasts is provided in this paper. The CFPRHB belongs to the self-oscillating family which includes the current fed push-pull and series resonant inverters, most of which are used in instant-start applications. However, many failure modes are related to the bypass capacitor according to an analysis of failed samples. In this paper, the operating functions of the existing topology in the steady state are analyzed and the main root cause of failure modes has been found. Comparisons between the two topologies are conducted in terms of the voltage stress of the bypass capacitor as well as the thermal and performance of the ballasts to verify the advantages of the proposed topology. It is found that the improved topology is capable of enhancing the reliability and reducing the cost of products without having a negative influence on the system performance.

  • This paper presents an architecture for driving multiple paralleled cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for back lighting applications. Multi CCFL operation and increase of brightness, the key to the architecture is a proposed capacitive coupling approach for lamp ignition. This system is consist of a flyback converter, a single inverter to drive multiple lamps and conductive floating reflector. The topology is capable of driving a number of parallel lamps with independent accurate lamp, The capacitive coupling the leakage inductance and stray capacitance creation which it used, current regulation and improving cost effectiveness with significant reduction in size and weight, compared to typical high frequency ac ballast. Experimental demonstration results for ten of parallel CCFLs with simultaneous ignition.

  • 국내 기존선 전 구간의 폐색장치는 전자화 및 통합화가 되어있지 않아 건설과 유지보수 측면에서 많은 보완점을 가지고 있다. 현재 사용되고 있는 ABS(Automatic Block System)와 고속화 노선에 추가 설치된 ATP(Automatic Train Protection) 시스템의 LEU(Lineside Electronic Unit)는 동일한 장소에서 동일한 신호정보에 의해 열차를 제어하고 있음에도 불구하고 별개의 시스템으로 분리되어 설치되어 열차를 제어하고 있다. 따라서 현재의 ABS와 LEU에서는 램프검지부나 전원부 등과 같이 중복 설치된 부품이 많기 때문에 전체적인 제품의 제조 원가가 높아질 뿐만 아니라, 시공비 역시 2중으로 소요되고 유지보수에도 많은 인력과 비용을 투자해야 하는 등의 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 ABS 제어기능을 CPU에 의한 디지털 전자제어방식으로 제어할 수 있도록 하는 집중형 전자폐색제어장치의 시제품 개발과 환경시험 및 기능시험을 수행한 결과를 제시하고 있다. 이러한 집중형 전자폐색제어장치는 LEU와 통합된 형태뿐 아니라 ATP 시스템이 설치되지 않은 노선에서도 전자폐색제어장치만을 별도로 사용할 수 있도록 개발되었다.
