  • The application of shape memory alloys (SMAs) to the seismic response reduction of civil engineering structures has attracted growing interest due to their self-centering feature and excellent fatigue performance. The loading rate dependence of SMAs raises a concern in the seismic analysis of SMA-based devices. However, the implementation of micromechanics-based strain-rate-dependent constitutive models in structural analysis software is rather complicated and computationally demanding. This paper investigates the feasibility of replacing complex rate-dependent models with rate-independent constitutive models for superelastic SMA elements in seismic time-history analysis. Three uniaxial constitutive models for superelastic SMAs, including one rate-dependent thermomechanical model and two rate-independent phenomenological models, are considered in this comparative study. The pros and cons of the three nonlinear constitutive models are also discussed. A parametric study of single-degree-of-freedom systems with different initial periods and strength reduction factors is conducted to examine the effect of the three constitutive models on seismic simulations. Additionally, nonlinear time-history analyses of a three-story prototype steel frame building with special SMA-based damping braces are performed. Two suites of seismic records that correspond to frequent and design basis earthquakes are used as base excitations in the seismic analyses of steel-braced frames. The results of this study show that the rate-independent constitutive models, with their parameters properly tuned to dynamic test data, are able to predict the seismic responses of structures with SMA-based seismic response modification devices.

  • This study addressed status of PP(Program Provider) market, particularly focusing on independent PP. This research selected 14 independent channels and did in depth interviews for them. This study analyzed 14 channels in terms of management, production, and contents. The result showed that independent channels were in inferior condition than MPP(multiple PP) on all the aspects of management, production and content. The management structure of the PP were very vulnerable, production environment was not good. The PP were placed in a difficult environment in terms of production and purchases of content, therefore focused on distribution rather than production. This unbalance on the PP market resulted in negative effect on Korea's contents industry as well as PP industry. Therefore, this study suggested policy and regulatory reforms are needed to improve inferior status of independent PP.

  • This study was designed to potentiate the vasodilation effect of Banhabackchulchunma-Tang(BCT) prescription by change of mixture. Six different BCT compositions were made according to mixture of herbs. The vascular relaxation effects of 6 different BCT compositions were examined on phenylephrine(PE)-precontracted rat thoracic aorta. The BCT-1 composition exerted significant relaxation on phenylephrine- or KCI- contracted rat thoracic aorta. Its elaxation was endothelium- independent in both PE- and KCl-induced contraction. Treatment of glibenclamide or tetraethylammonium(TEA) did not affect the relaxation of BCT-1. Vasorelaxation efficacy of BCT-1 was also not influenced by low (25mM) or high (50mM, 80mM) KCl-induced contraction. Furthermore, the contraction by increasing $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations (0.3-10.0mM) to a $Ca^{2+}$-free high K+ (60mM) was significantly reduced by pretreatment with BCT-1 In addition, the relaxant effects were not inhibited by pretreatment of rat aorta with L-NAME, MB, indomethacin and atropine. These results confirm that BCT-1 may exerts its vasodilation effect by endothelium-independent manner. According to the above results, we suggest that the relaxation effect of BCT-1 is endothelium-independent and is related with block of $Ca^{2+}$ influx via $Ca^{2+}$ channel.

  • Background/Aims: This study aimed to examine the synergistic effect of independent risk factors on post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis (PEP). Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included 1,273 patients with native papillae who underwent ERCP for bile duct stones in Japan. Independent PEP risk factors were identified using univariate and multivariate analyses. Significant risk factors for PEP in the multivariate analysis were included in the final analysis to examine the synergistic effect of independent risk factors for PEP. Results: PEP occurred in 45 of 1,273 patients (3.5%). Three factors including difficult cannulation ≥10 minutes, pancreatic injection, and normal serum bilirubin level were included in the final analysis. The incidences of PEP in patients with zero, one, two, and three factors were 0.5% (2/388), 1.9% (9/465), 6.0% (17/285), and 12.6% (17/135), respectively. With increasing risk factors for PEP, the incidence of PEP significantly increased (1 factor vs. 2 factors, p=0.006; 2 factors vs. 3 factors, p=0.033). Conclusions: As the number of risk factors for PEP increases, the risk of PEP may not be additive; however, it may multiply. Thus, aggressive prophylaxis for PEP is strongly recommended in patients with multiple risk factors.

  • In this study, we propose a new control system that effectively utilizes the interaction effect of control force through the connection of stiffness member for seismic performance enhancement of two adjacent structures equipped with active tuned mass damper (ATMD). The efficiency of the proposed control system is verified by comparing with the existing independent control system through the numerical simulations of the 10th- and 12th-story buildings. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed method can show similar or better control performance even with more economical control capacity than the existing independent control system. Another advantage is that the existing system does not exhibit the adaptive control performance in emergency of failure of one control device, whereas the proposed system can achieve successful adaptive control performance by economically and efficiently utilizing the interacting control effect through the connection member.

  • Purpose - Since the opening of Korea's distribution market, the domestic network marketing market has been continuing to grow. In this context, research on network marketing independent operators, which plays the most important role in the network marketing industry, is insufficient. This study was to identify the effects of Independent Operator's Company Selection Attributions on the Economic and Non-Economic Satisfaction, Trust, and Recommendation. The results will provide strategic direction, theoretical and practical implications for companies and operators in the network marketing industry. Research design, data, and methodology - In order to verify the research hypotheses, the data were collected from Independent Operators of Network marketing industry using questionnaires. The pretest was conducted from January 8 to 19, 2018, and the main survey was conducted from February 1 to 28. A total of 210 questionnaires, of which 193 copies were collected. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0. and AMOS 21.0. Results - The results are as follows; product competitiveness and system competitiveness have significant effects on economic satisfaction and non-economic satisfaction. Economic and non-economic satisfaction have significant effects on business trust. Economic and non-economic satisfaction did not influence recommendation intention directly, but influence it indirectly. Business trust has a significant effect on business recommendation intention. Conclusions - After starting network marketing business as an independent operator, the competitiveness of the company is meaningless, and product competitiveness and system competitiveness are important factors for economic and non-economic satisfaction. Therefore, network marketing companies and independent operators should prioritize product competitiveness and system competitiveness between business development. The findings show that trust in the business is very important for active business Recommendation to others. Therefore, network marketing firms and independent operators need to make efforts to meet economic and non-economic satisfaction, which have a significant impact on business trust.

  • In order to reveal the independent relationship between track irregularity and wind loads, the stochastic characteristics of train-bridge coupling systems subjected to wind loads were investigated by the multi-sample calculation. The vehicle was selected as 23 degrees of freedom dynamical model, and the bridge was described by three-dimensional finite element model. It was assumed that the wind loads were random processes with strong spatial correlation, while the track irregularities were stationary random ones. As a case study, a high-speed train running on a cable-stayed bridge subjected to wind loads was studied. The effect of rail irregularities was deemed to be independent of the effect of wind excitations on the coupling system in the same wind circumstance for the same project, leading to the conclusion that the effect of wind loads and moving vehicle could be calculated separately. The variance results of the stochastic responses of vehicle-bridge coupling system under the action of wind loads and rail irregularities together were equivalent to the sum of the variance of the responses induced by each excitation. Therefore, when one of the input excitations is different, only the effect of changed loads needs to be assessed. Moreover, the new calculated results were combined with the effect of unchanged loads to present the stochastic response of coupling system subjected to the different excitations, reducing the cost of computations. The stochastic characteristics, the CFD (cumulative distribution function) of the coupling system with different wind velocities, vehicle speed, and vehicle marshalling were studied likewise.
