  • The deterioration of the flexural capacity by progressive crack and over deflection in R/C bridges is developed actually from the dynamic repeated loading due to vehicle traffics. Such a fact suggest a necessities of confirmation and estimation of the data acquired from monotonic incremental loading test. Therefore, this study carry out the monotonic incremental loading test and dynamic repeated loading test in R/C beams strengthened with CFS. By dynamic repeated loading test, the experiments confirmed the validities and fittness of the results acquired from monotonic incremental loading test and estimated the characteristics of the moment-curvature, degradation of the flexural rigidity, crack and failure.

  • Fracture resistance(J-R) curves, which are used for the elastic-plastic fracture mechanics analyses, are known to be dependent on the cyclic loading history. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of reverse cyclic loading on J-R curves in CT specimens. The effect of two parameters was observed on the J-R curves during the reverse cyclic loading. One was the minimum-to-maximum load ratio(R) and the other was the incremental plastic displacement(${\delta}_{cycle}/{\delta}_i$), which is related to the amount of crack growth that occurs in a cycle. Fracture resistance test on CT specimens with varying load ratio and incremental plastic displacement were performed. For the SA 516 Gr. 70 steel, the results showed that the J-R curves were decreased with decreasing the load ratio and the incremental plastic displacement. When the load ratio was set to -1, the results of the J-R curves and the $J_i$ value were about $40{\sim}50$ percent of those for the monotonic loading condition. Also on condition that the incremental plastic displacement reached 1/40, the J-R curves and the $J_i$ value were about $50{\sim}60$ percent of those for the incremental plastic displacement of 1/10.

  • This paper is to investigate the fracture behavior characteristics of box culvert and incremental crack width of upper slab for the incremental loading by the 3-axis loading system. In the 3-axes loading system, loading directions are upper side, left and right side which simulate earth pressure and static traffic load. With the incremental load, crack patterns is investigated on the upper slab, left and right wall. Especially, on the upper slab, crack width is measured by crack gage. Based on the experimental results, structural internal force indices of box culvert are estimated quantitatively.

  • Experimental studies were conducted on 36 grouted splices to investigate their mechanical performance under four loading schemes: (1) incremental tensile loading, (2) repeated tensile loading, (3) cyclic loading at high stress, and (4) cyclic loading at large strain. Load-deformation responses of the grouted splices under cyclic loadings were featured with pinching effect and stiffness degradation compared to those responses under tensile loadings. The shape of the hysteresis loops of load-deformation curves was similar to that under incremental tensile loading. For the purpose of structural analysis, stress-strain relationships were presented for grouted splices under various loadings.

  • A finite element model based on the incremental endochronic theory for flexible pavement materials was developed in this study. Three grid systems with eight-node cubic isoparametric elements, and different loading steps were used to perform the calculations for a specimen of circular cylinder. The uniaxial stress experimental results on an asphalt mixture at $60^{\circ}C$ in SHRP conducted by University of California at Berkeley were used to check the ability of the derived numerical model. Then, the numerical results showed isotropic response and deviatoric response on the specimen in a three dimensional manner, which provided a better understanding for a deformed flexible material under the specified loading conditions.

  • The main advantage of incremental loading consolidation test is the simplicity of equipments that can be used. However, it is known that the incremental loading test has several deficiencies including long testing time, non-uniform stress state, high and variable rates of strain, very soft clay and problem of back pressure saturation. Due to these drawbacks, various testing methods including constant rate of strain consolidation test(CRS) were developed. In this paper, CRS consolidation test was performed with three different strain rate. The results were verified by the modified CRS theory of Wissa et al.(1971). And then the results obtained from the CRS consolidation tests were compared with those from incremental loading test and direct permeability test.

  • In order to analyze effects of strain rate on consolidation characteristics on Busan clay, a series of constant rate of strain(CRS) consolidation tests with different strain rate and incremental loading test(ILT) were performed. From experimental test results, it was found that the preconsolidation pressure was dependent on the corresponding strain rate occurred during consolidation process. Also, consolidation curves normalized with respect to preconsolidation pressure gave a unique stress-strain curve. Coefficient of consolidation and permeability estimated from CRS test had a tendancy to converge to a certain value at normally consolidated range regardless of strain rate. An increase in excess pore pressure without change of total stress was noted on the incremental loading test after the end of loading.

  • For the collapse of structures due to the variable repeated load, two types of collapse mechanisms, i.e., incremental collapse and alternating plasticity, exist. Under the similar variable repeated loading conditions there exists shakedown state in the structures. In shakedown state, the number of plastic hinges are not increased and all further loading will be resulted in the elastic moment changes. Namely, under the shakedown state, structures do not collapse. In this investigation, shakedown analysis are performed by composing new computer programs. Basic theories employed to compose the programs are as follows. 1. Newton-Raphson methods are added to the existing matrix method for the plastic analysis. 2. An effort to construct the stiffness of axial and bending springs attached at both ends of the member has been made. By using the programs developed, it is possible to anticipate the collapse mechanisms (Incremental collapse, alternating plasticity). Lastly for the verification of performance of the program, demonstration examples have been solved and the results are compared with other sources.

  • In this study, a consolidometer for radially inward drainage under constant rate of strain (CRS) loading was developed. Theoretical solutions for determining the effective vertical stress and the coefficient of consolidation from the test result were also proposed. Reconstituted kaolinite samples which were consolidated up to 130 kPa were used to verify the developed consolidometer and the theory. Comparative experiments with CRS loading and incremental loading (IL) were carried out in radially in ward drainage as well as vertical and radially outward drainage. The results obtained from the developed CRS loading test agreed consistently with those of the conventional incremental loading test according to drainage directions. And the effect of drainage direction and drain diameter to consolidation characteristics was also evaluated. From the test results the applicability and the reliability of the suggested method were verified.

  • This paper investigates a study on the bending behavior of beam strengthened with CFS under repeated loading. The test specimen consisted of 20cm in width, 40cm in depth, and 15cm in CFS width. We find the strength decrease under repeated loading test comparing with the monotonic incremental loading test.
