  • Feature point matching, which is finding the corresponding points from two images with different viewpoint, has been used in various vision-based applications and the demand for the real-time operation of the matching is increasing these days. This paper presents a real-time feature point matching method by using a local descriptor derived by Zernike moments. From an input image, we find a set of feature points by using an existing fast corner detection algorithm and compute a local descriptor derived by Zernike moments at each feature point. The local descriptor based on Zernike moments represents the properties of the image patch around the feature points efficiently and is robust to rotation and illumination changes. In order to speed up the computation of Zernike moments, we compute the Zernike basis functions with fixed size in advance and store them in lookup tables. The initial matching results are acquired by an Approximate Nearest Neighbor (ANN) method and false matchings are eliminated by a RANSAC algorithm. In the experiments we confirmed that the proposed method matches the feature points in images with various transformations in real-time and outperforms existing methods.

  • In this study, experimented how to increase corresponding points which are obtained through stereo matching for dense 3D reconstruction. After extracting a snapshot image from the images acquired through stereo CCTVs, the matching points obtained using the SIFT matching and RANSAC procedure were gradually overlapped. In conclusion, it was confirmed that as images are overlapped, the number of matching points continues to grow.

  • Recently, the demand for high-resolution satellite images increases in many fields such as land monitoring and terrain analysis. Therefore, the need for geometric correction is increasing. As an automatic precision geometric correction method, there is a method of automatically extracting the GCP by matching between the GCP Chip and the satellite image. For automatic precision geometric correction, the success rate of matching GCP Chip and satellite image is important. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the matching performance of the manufactured GCP Chip. In order to evaluate the matching performance of GCP Chips, a total of 3,812 GCP Chips in South Korea were used as experimental data. The GCP Chip matching results of KOMPSAT-3A and Google Map showed similar matching results. Therefore, we determined that Google Map satellite imagery could replace high-resolution satellite imagery. Also, presented a method using center point and error radius of Google Map to reduce the time required to verify matching performance. As a result, it is best to set the optimum error radius to 8.5m. Evaluated the matching performance of GCP Chips in South Korea using Google Maps. And verified matching result using presented method. As a result, the GCP Chip s in South Korea had a matching success rate of about 94%. Also, the main matching failure factors were analyzed by matching failure GCP Chips. As a result, Except for GCP Chips that need to be remanufactured, the remaining GCP Chips can be used for the automatic geometric correction of satellite images.

  • Registration between image and object space is a fundamental step in photogrammetry and computer vision. Along with rapid development of sensors - multi/hyper spectral sensor, laser scanning sensor, radar sensor etc., the needs for registration between different sensors are ever increasing. There are two important considerations on different sensor registration. They are sensor invariant feature extraction and correspondence between them. Since point to point correspondence does not exist in image and laser scanning data, it is necessary to have higher entities for extraction and correspondence. This leads to modify first, existing mathematical and geometrical model which was suitable for point measurement to line measurements, second, matching scheme. In this research, linear feature is selected for sensor invariant features and matching entity. Linear features are incorporated into mathematical equation in the form of extended collinearity equation for registration problem known as photo resection which calculates exterior orientation parameters. The other emphasis is on the scheme of finding matched entities in the aide of RANSAC (RANdom SAmple Consensus) in the absence of correspondences. To relieve computational load which is a common problem in sampling theorem, deterministic sampling technique and selecting 4 line features from 4 sectors are applied.

  • The necessity of automatic precise georeferencing is increasing with the increase applications of high-resolution satellite imagery. One of the methods for collecting ground control points (GCPs) for precise georeferencing is to use chip images obtained by extracting a subset of an image map such as an ortho-aerial image, and can be automated using an image matching technique. In this case, the importance of the image matching success rate is increased due to the limitation of the number of the chip images for the known reference points such as the unified control point. This study aims to propose a method to improve the success rate of image matching between KOMPSAT-3A images and GCP chip images from aerial ortho-images. We performed the image matching with 7 cases of band pair using KOMPSAT-3A panchromatic (PAN), multispectral (MS), pansharpened (PS) imagery and GCP chip images, then compared matching success rates. As a result, about 10-30% of success rate is increased to about 40-50% when using PS imagery by using PAN and MS imagery. Therefore, using PS imagery for image matching of KOMPSAT-3A images and aerial ortho-images would be helpful to improve the matching success rate.

  • In photogrammetry, GCPs (Ground Control Points) have traditionally been used to determine EOPs (Exterior Orientation Parameters) and to produce DEM (Digital Elevation Model). The existing DEM can be used as GCPs, where the observer’s approach is a difficult area, because it is very restrictive to survey in the field. For this, DEM matching should be performed. This study proposed the fusion method using ICP (Iterative Closest Point) and RT (proposed method by Rosenholm and Torlegard, 1988) in order to improve accuracy of the DEM matching. The proposed method was compared to the ICP method to evaluate its usefulness. Pseudo reference DEM with resolution 10m, and modified DEM (random-numbers are added from 0 to 2 at height; scale is 0.9; translation is 100 meters in 3-D axes; rotation is from 10° to 50° from the reference DEM) were used in the experiment. The results proposed accuracy was highest in the matching and absolute orientation. In the case of ICP, according to rotation of the modified DEM being increased, absolute orientation error is increased, while the proposed method generally showed consistent results without increasing the error. The proposed method would be applied to matching when the DEM is modified up to 30° rotation, compared to the reference DEM, based on the results of experiments. In addition when we use Drone, this method can be utilized to identify EOPs or detect 3-D surface deformation from the existing DEM of the inaccessible area.

  • The characteristics of the shielded suspended substrate strip transmission line(SSSL) are analyzed by the point matching method and the variational method in Quasi-TEM mode. The accuracy of this solution is confirmed by analyzing and comparing this solution with the empirical solution obtained from the same dimension. The characteristic impedance and the effective dielectric constant are also studied by increasing the air-layer height of SSSL.

  • In this paper we proposed a hierarchical ASM for real-time tracking of non-rigid objects. For tracking an object we used ASM for estimating object contour possibly with occlusion. Moreover, to reduce the processing time we used hierarchical approach for real-time tacking. In the next frame we estimated the initial feature point by using Kalman filter. We also added block matching algorithm for increasing accuracy of the estimation. The proposed hierarchical, prediction-based approach was proven to out perform the exiting non-hierarchical, non-prediction methods.

  • Sound focusing technologies has been studied for various purposes from early 1990s. As a result, these technologies make us possible to apply in many uses. For example, we can treat tumors using focused ultrasonic waves without surgical knife and communicate in the ocean using time reversal array. Also applications for personal audio system become issues. Recently, as technologies are developing, in some applications, needs for regional focusing become increasing because previously suggested focusing methods, such as phase conjugation, time reversal and inverse filtering, were all about a point focusing. Therefore, studies on regional focusing method are essentially needed. Regional focusing method was firstly mentioned by Choi and Kim in 2002: acoustic contrast control. However, in regional focusing, physical interpretations between control variables and results are still not easy because of its complexity. In this regard, we tried to understand the relations between control variables and results in wavenumber domain and suggested a solution method for regional focusing: wavenumber spectrum matching. We also showed how to make spatially focused sound shape using the suggested method from the simplest case: line focusing.

  • Expanding product variety and high customer service provision place an enormous burden on demand forecasting and the matching of supply with demand in a supply chain. Postponement of product differentiation has been found to be powerful means to improve supply chain performance in the presence of increasing product variety. Delaying the point of product differentiation implies that the process would not commit the work-in-process into a particular finished product until a later point. This paper reviews the recent analytical models that quantify the value of delayed product differentiation. We conclude the literature review by summarizing and synthesizing the economic evaluation of the postponement and outline directions for future research.
