  • JLF-1 steel (Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta), low activation ferritic steel, is one of the promising candidate materials fer fusion reactor applications. High temperature fatigue life and tensile strength of JLF-1 steel and its TIG welded joints were investigated at the room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. The strength of base metal (JLF-1) is in between those of weld metal and the HAZ. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, both strength and ductility decreased for base metal, weld metal and the HAZ. The longitudinal specimens of base metal showed similar strength and ductility compared with those of the transverse specimens at room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy was observed in the JLF-1 steel base metal in terms of rolling direction. Fatigue limit of weld metal which was obtained from cross-weld specimen is 495MPa. Thus, the weld metal showed the higher fatigue limit than those of base metal at both room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$. Little anisotropy of fatigue properties was observed for JLF-1 base metal in terms of rolling direction. When the test temperature was increased from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$, the fatigue limit of both base metal and weld metal decreased substantially.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of two shoe size conditions on foot pressure, ground reaction force (GRF), and lower extremity muscle fatigue. Seven healthy men participated. They randomly performed walking and running in two different conditions: proper shoe size and 10 mm greater than proper shoe size. Peak foot pressure, and vertical, anterior and mediolateral force components were recorded with the Parotec system and Kisler force platform. To assess fatigue, the participants performed treadmill running for twenty-five minutes twice, each time wearing a different shoe size. Surface electromyography was used to confirm localized muscle fatigue using power spectral analysis of four muscles (tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius medialis, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris). The results were as follows: 1) In walking conditions, there was a significantly higher peak pressure in the 10 mm greater than proper shoe size insole sensor 1, 2, 14, and 18 (p<.05). 2) In running conditions, there was a significantly higher peak pressure in the 10 mm greater than proper shoe size insole sensor 5, 14, and 15 (p<.05). 3) In walking conditions, there was a significantly higher first maximal vertical GRF in the 10 mm greater than proper shoe size (p<.05). 4) In running conditions, no GRF components were significantly different between each shoe size condition (p>.05). 5) Muscle fatigue indexes of the tibialis anterior and rectus femoris were significantly increased in the 10 mm greater than proper shoe size condition. These results indicate that wearing shoes that are too large could further exacerbate the problems of increased foot pressure, vertical GRF, and muscle fatigue.

  • This thesis develops a fatigue model for the asphalt black base using the APT(Accelerated Pavement Testing) and analyzes the correlation of the APT analysis result with results of previous laboratory tests. For the APT testing, aggregate of the maximum grain size of 25mm(BB-3) was used as the material for the asphalt black base. The result of the APT revealed that the variable of the fatigue model, i.e. the maximum tensile stress on the bottom part of the pavement, increased as the number of loading increased while the modulus of elasticity for the pavement layer decreased gradually. The tensile strain was obtained from a strain gauge, and it was used to derive the values of $k_1=1.29{\times}10^{-6}$ and $k_2=3.02$ from the basic equation of the asphalt fatigue model, $N_f=k_1(\frac{1}{\epsilon})^{k_2}$. The fatigue life predicted from the asphalt fatigue model was greater than that obtained from laboratory experiments, given the same tensile strain. Additionally, a theory to estimate the remaining life of the pavement was developed using FWD, a non-destructive experiment.

  • The corrosion fatigue test was conducted in air to investigate the corrosion fatigue strength of SM 30 C steel by which was corroded in the under sea and surface in the conditions of 3.0% NaCl salt solution. The fatigue tests were carried out on a rotary bending testing machine of cantilever type. The corrosion effect of the sea surface conditionwas served more than that of the under sea condition which was due ti the periodic contact of air thus accelerate the corrosion. The difference of the fatgue strength between sea surface and under sea conditions decreased with increase of stree level and corroded period. Inthe case of the solid shaft and thickness 2mm of hollow shaft, the difference of corrosion fatigue strength decreased as stress level and corrosion periodic increasing. Onthe contrary in the case of thickness 1mm of hollow sgaft, the difference of it increased as stress level, corrosionn periooodic increasing and also the condition of corrosion chaanged. The main factors affecting the degradation of fatigue strength due to corrosion were the reduction of sectional area and the increase of surface roughness. The interference phenomenon increase with stress level got higher.

  • The compression-compression fatigue properties of the closed cell Al-Si-Ca alloy foams have been studied. The monotonic and cyclic compressive properties were compared with each other and the fatigue stress-life (S-N) curves were presented. In compression-compression fatigue, the crushing was found to initiate in a single band which broadens gradually with additional fatigue cycles. Progressive shortening of the specimen took place due to a combination of low cycle fatigue failure and cyclic ratcheting which is in accordance with the findings of previous researchers [1-3]. Young's modulus of the foam was found to decrease with the increasing strain in case of fatigue test however in case of monotonic compression test the value of Young's modulus increased with the strain (number of cycles). The endurance limit on the basis of $10^{7}$ cycles obtained by extrapolating the experimental results were 0.98 MPa and 1.70 MPa for load ratios 0.1 and 0.5 respectively which are 34 % and 59 % of the plateau stress.

  • In general, discontinuity of metallurgical and structural points of weld zone could decline the fatigue strength. For the lightweight trend, the AHSS application in automotive chassis is in-progress. However, there are few research reports on AHSS welds fatigue strength in especially automotive chassis parts. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the effects of the factors affecting the AHSS welding fatigue strength. As the result, the stress concentration of weld bead is the most important factor for welding fatigue strength. For the enhancement of welding fatigue strength, we focused on reducing the stress concentration of the welding beads. So, we applied and proved the plasma welding process and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) dressing method. It was verified by uniaxial fatigue specimen, fatigue performance increased from 40 to 60% by applying TIG dressing method compared to the conventional GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). These results could be recommended the enhancement of fatigue performance of AHSS.

  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. Therefore, the effects of compressive residual stress by shot-peening which is method to improve fatigue lift of spring steel (JISG SUP-9), which used in suspension of automobile, on fatigue crack growth characteristics was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. So, we can obtain followings 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

  • The pipelines for natural gas transmission were buried in the ground of 1.5m depth. The pipelines were continuously subjected to vehicle load and internal pressure change by the quantity consumed of natural gas. In this paper, high cycle fatigue properties of natural gas transmission pipelines were studied. Fatigue specimens were obtained from the base and weld metal of circular pipe. Fatigue strength increased with increasing yield strength. Especially, the fatigue strength of base metal was higher than the yield strength of base metal and the fatigue strength of weld metal by manufactured process of TMCP.

  • Fatigue crack initiation around a hole subjected to biaxial fatigue loads with a phase difference was investigated. Axial and torsional biaxial fatigue loads with different phase differences and biaxiality of 1/√3 were applied to thin-walled tubular specimens. Five phase differences of 0, 45, 90, 145 and 180 degrees were selected. Directions of the fatigue crack initiation around the hole were found to approach to the circumferential direction of the specimen with increment of the phase difference for fatigue tests with phase differences less than 90$^{\circ}$. Whereas directions for tests with phase differences greater than 90$^{\circ}$ got away from the circumferential direction and those were symmetric to the directions for tests with phase difference less than 90. . Furthermore, it was shown that the fatigue initiation life decreased with increment of phase difference for fatigue tests with phase differences less than 90$^{\circ}$, but it increased for tests with phase difference greater than 90$^{\circ}$. The crack initiation direction can be successfully explained by using the direction of the maximum tangential stress range obtained around the hole and at far-field.
