Safety Margin Evaluation of Railway wheel Based on Fracture Scenarios

  • Derailment due to wheel failure would cause a tremendous social and economical cost in service operation. It is necessary to evaluate quantitatively the safety with respect to high-speed train. Although the safety of railway wheel has been ensured by an regular inspection, all critical defects cannot be detected in inspection cycles and the wheel has been replaced because a defect quickly become critical for safety. Therefore, it is important to calculate quantitatively the fracture limit and remnant life of damaged railway wheel in wheel-rail system. In present paper, the critical crack size of wheel for high-speed train is simulated based on fracture scenario and the safety of wheel is evaluated.

  • In this study, Curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with spray type is investigated and estimated a point of view reducing wheel flange wear and noise, a small crack in the curve. Advantage of curve dependent wheel flange lubricator spray type is found on the basis of the result of field test in comparison with oil spray type lubricator and wheel without wheel flange lubricator on railroad in korea for noise and wheel abraison. the influence of curve dependent wheel flange lubricator spray type on the small crack of wheel is introduced by research papers

  • One must observe abrasive grain of grinding wheel and know their behaviors to understand the grinding mechanism. The behaviors of abrasive grain on the wheel surface. such as shapes distributions and changes were studied to make the grinding mechanism clear but the behaviors of abrasive grains on CBN wheel are not known enough. From this paper the working surface of a grinding wheel is observed by photography in which a picture of a wheel surface is taken by the camera through the microscope on the grinding machine and analyzed with the computer.

  • The object of this study is to reduce the subway noise by the low noise wheel. The vibro-acoustic reduction was predicted from the FRF difference between low noise wheel and solid wheel by experimental modal analysis. The low noise wheel and solid wheel were compared in viewpoint of car interior/exterior noise. The effect of low noise wheel on the noise of subway train of 6 vehicles was obtained. But, the application of low noise wheel must be reviewed in some aspect.

  • In-Wheel System is a high-efficiency system to supply a new concept of platform which raises the efficiency of motor drive system and applies it to an environment-friendly automobile by installing a highly efficient electric motor directly to wheels and removing factors of power train. The proliferation of these systems is directly related to the safety of our lives, so check the reliability of the part in the development phase and should be certified. Reliability is the ability of a system or component to perform its required functions under stated conditions for a specified period of time. This paper presents to the verification methods for durability, one of reliability assessments of the Motor, the study calculated acceleration and deceleration torque and the effective torque from driving conditions of In-Wheel Motor, and based on this, it reduced the test time and suggested the verification methods of In-Wheel Motor reliability through the accelerated life test.

  • The steel wheels are widely used in the passenger cars because of their low cost of production although the aluminum wheels have many advantages in their performance and appearance. It is known that the steering wheel vibration with steel wheels is generated more often than one with aluminum wheels. Both the constant velocity driving test and the m up test are carried out in this study to analyze the causes and path of the steering wheel vibration generated from the steel wheels. And this study shows that the steering wheel vibration is affected by the fastening torque of the wheel mounting bolts between the steel wheel and the suspension disk.

  • Many kinds of rolling-stocks that have various control methods are being operated by Seoulmetro which is a history of a city railroad rolling-stock. Seoulmetro is being faced with a wheel management comparing of other lines with a perpendicular wear of wheel and a side damage, and so on, by operating several cars at a loop line. This is causing maintenance expenses increase and deteriorating a fusibility of rolling-stock, for it has an effect on a rolling-stock using. A cutting pattern of wheel and a wear form affect the expected span of a wheel. A wheel cutting cause is classifed into cutting for reprofiling of a flange wear of wheel and for removing every kind defect which originates from wheel wear. In this study, Seoulmetro exhibit a stable rolling-stock use method and a reasonable management method of wheel, analysing wheel exchange condition and cutting management of wheel.

  • An in-wheel motor vehicle is a type of car that is equipped with an electric motor for each wheel. It is possible to acquire vehicle stability through a seperate driving torque control per wheel, since it directly generates the driving torque via the wheel motors. However, the vehicle ride comfort and road holding performance worsen depending on the increase of the wheel weights. In order to compensate for the impaired performance, an integrated chassis control system of the rear in-wheel motor vehicle is proposed. The proposed integrated chassis control system is composed of a driving torque control system, a semi-active suspension system, and an ESC system. According to the vehicle dynamic simulation of an in-wheel motor vehicle equipped with the integrated chassis control system, it is found that the system can improve the driving stability, ride comfort, and driving efficiency of the in-wheel motor vehicle.

  • A precise evaluation of the contact position and the distribution of contact pressure in a wheel-rail interface analysis is one of the most important procedures to predict fatigue life and wear of wheel and rail. This paper presents the analysis result of finite element method(FEM) to investigate how the deformation of a wheelset, which is the assembly of wheel and axle of a railroad vehicle, affect the contact analysis of wheel and rail. 3D-FEM was used to analyze three contact models; a model with only wheel, a model with wheelset, and a model with simplified wheel and rail geometry. The analysis result of the contact position and the distribution of contact pressure are discussed. It is shown that the analysis results of a model with wheelset represent largest value with respect to contact pressure and contact stress. Furthermore, it is found that the distribution of contact pressure and the contact position is highly affected by the deformation of wheel and axle. It is concluded that the deformation of axle should be considered to evaluate the exact contact parameters in a wheel-rail contact analysis.

  • In rolling stock, wheels are one of the most important components to run on the track in safety. Especially, it is important that wheel profile cause the variation of dynamic characteristics and running safety. The purpose of this paper is to propose the wheel profile and to know the effectiveness of improved wheel profile by using microphones. We also performed analysis of running safety to know application of improved wheel profile before the test. In result, the improved wheel profile was stable in running safety and noise level was reduced.
