The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of growth of parental empowerment of the family of the children with development disabilities in an online parental community. For this purpose, 250 posts were selected from a web-forum of an online-community(internet CAFE) for patients with developmental disabilities in a Korean portal site. In addition, the selected posts were analyzed based on the grounded theory method. The results showed that the parents with high risk children for developmental disabilities interacted with each other in short answers, self-addressing, and discussion type interactions under the causal condition in which the subject parents were in need of help and sympathy. The factors that significantly affected the focus event, which is the interactive communication between the posters of the original threads and replies, included the moderating conditions based on whether the conversation was respectful, friendly, or for general evaluation, as well as the contextual condition of exclusive attitudes. The strategies of the interactions were composed of two categories of self-reflections and sharing through a human relationship. The results of these interactions were either further interactions (sharing) or shying away. With regard to the process of reinforcing the collective empowerment of the family, the 'determination,' 'tips,' and 'empathy' models were used for the explanation of the process. Lastly, we discovered that trust, support, continuous interactions, specific and practical information, as well as provision of diversified perspectives through collective experiences are necessary to achieve such improvement of collective family empowerment.
Soil erosion and sediment has been known as one of pollutants causing water quality degradation in water bodies. With global warming issues worldwide, various soil erosion studies have been performed. Although on-site monitoring of sediment loss would be an ideal method to evaluate soil erosion condition, modeling approaches have been utilized to estimate soil erosion and to evaluate various best management practices on soil erosion reduction. Although the USLE has been used in soil erosion estimation for the last 40 years, the USLE model has limitations in estimating event-based soil erosion reflecting rainfall intensity and rainfall duration for long-term period. Thus, the calibrated model, capable of simulating soil erosion using hourly rainfall data, was utilized in this study to evaluate the effects of rainfall amount and rainfall intensity on soil erosion. It was found that USLE soil erosion value is $3.06ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, while soil erosion values from 2006~2010 were $2.469ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, $0.882ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, $1.489ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, $2.158ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, $1.602ton\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, respectively. Especially, soil erosion from single storm event for 2008-2010 would be responsible for 30% or more of annual soil loss. As shown in this study, hourly soil erosion estimation system would provide more detailed output from the study area. In addition, the effects of rainfall intensity on soil erosion could be evaluated with this system.

Studies have been made on performance evaluation of expansion joint systems for an ordinary highway or road bridge. However little study has been made for runway connection bridges at airports. A study on performance evaluated from computer code analysis and shrinkage, extension, and compression repetition tests based on KS F 4425 is conducted to a newly developed expansion joint system which has been installed in a runway connection bridge at Incheon Airport Extension 2 Construction Site. The MIDAS computer code is used to analyze the performance before the manufacture of the mock-up of expansion joint system on the basis of design requirements. Tests based on the KS F 4425 of 2001 year-version are conducted for the mock-up. Domestic codes and standards to validate the performance of the expansion joint system in a connection bridge have been developed for a vehicle. However the expansion joint system tested in this study is installed in a runway connection bridge for an aircraft. Conservatively the heaviest one among airplanes departing and landing at Incheon Airport is assumed level-F $468.4kN/m^2$ and adopted for the tests and analyses in this study. KS F 4425 method is selected for the shrinkage, extension, and compression repetition tests. No remarkable problem was observed for the 2,500-cycle shrinkage and extension and two million-cycle repeatition load tests. The results of this study are expected to contribute to establishment of code and standard for the performance validation of an expansion joint system installed in a runway connection bridge for an aircraft by providing performance test results and computer analysis results based on finite element methods.

The decommissioning of one nuclear power plant in a multi-unit nuclear power plant (multi-unit NPP) site may pose radiation exposure risk to decommissioning workers. Thus, it is essentially required to evaluate the exposure dose of decommissioning workers of operating multi-unit NPPs nearby. The ENDOS program is a dose evaluation code developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). As two sub-programs of ENDOS, ENDOS-ATM to anticipate atmospheric transport and ENDOS-G to calculate exposure dose by gaseous radioactive effluents are used in this study. As a result, the annual maximum individual dose for decommissioning workers is estimated to be $2.31{\times}10^{-3}mSv{\cdot}y^{-1}$, which is insignificant compared with the effective dose limit of $1mSv{\cdot}y^{-1}$ for the public. Although it is revealed that the exposure dose of operating multi-unit NPPs does not result in a significant impact on decommissioning workers, closer examination of the effect of additional exposure due to actual demolition work is required. The calculation method of this study is expected to be utilized in the future for planned decommissioning projects in Korea. Because domestic NPPs are located in multi-unit sites, similar situations may occur.
Clinker layer is a stratum structure distributed in volcanic area such as Jeju Island. The clinker layers were formed in between the repetitive action of eruption and solidification of lava flows. Since the clinker layer contains a large amount of voids accompanied by the lava gas ejection process, there is a possibility of inducing overall stability of the ground due to the low stiffness and strength of the clinker layer. Therefore, in this study, site investigation was carried out at both ends of the 00 bridge where the clinker layers exist. And, based on the ground survey results, the behavior of shallow foundations was analyzed numerically. In addition, the improved shallow foundation behavior in grouting substitution using the chemical injection method of the clinker layer was compared with the shallow foundation behavior in the ground, and the grouting substitution efficiency of each layer was analyzed. As a result, the bearing capacity, the replacement efficiency and elastic settlement were different according to the presence or absence of the sediment layer. This is because the sediment layer has a lower stiffness and density than the clinker layer.
Identifying the available water resources amount is an essential process in establishing a sustainable water resources management plan. Dam facility is a major infrastructure storing and supplying water during the dry season, and the water supply yield of the dam varies depending on dam inflow conditions or operation rule. In South Korea, water supply yield of dam is calculated by reservoir simulation based on observed historical dam inflow data. However, the water supply capacity of a dam can be underestimated or overestimated depending on the existence of historical drought events during the simulation period. In this study, probabilistic inflow data was generated and used to estimate the appropriate range of the water supply yield of hydropower dams. That is, a method for estimating the probabilistic dam inflow that fluctuates according to climatic and socio-economic conditions and the range of water supply yield for hydropower dams was presented, and applied to hydropower dams located in the Han river in South Korea. It is expected that the understanding water supply yield of the hydropower dams will become more important to respond to climate change in the future, and this study will contribute to national water resources management planning by providing potential range of water supply yield of hydropower dams.
In this study, physical property evaluation and physical separation of the target product were performed to investigate the possibility of using sewage sludge gasification solid residue (GSRs) as a circulating resource. Firstly, the GSRs used in this study was supplied by Sudokwon Landfill Management Corporation, and generally the GSRs was in the form of porous pellets with a particle size of several millimetres. In addition, the partially black areas were confirmed to be unburned and ungasified carbon, and the average carbon content was 5%. In addition, the content of silica, alumina and phosphorus oxide was more than 70% of the total content. It was confirmed that the metallic components of the wet grinding product were separated into individual elements. As a physical separation of metallic and non-metallic components was required, it was finally found that flotation screening was suitable. Accordingly, cationic and anionic surfactants were selected to separate metallic components in which a relatively large amount of non-metallic components were concentrated, and the separation characteristics were confirmed. As a result, it is expected that the concentration of non-metallic components such as silica, alumina and phosphorus will be easier than the separation of metallic components. Therefore, since it is possible to physically treat the gasified sludge residue, it is judged to have potential as a circular resource according to the proposed recycling method for the separated product.

Since weak Bones or geological lineaments are likely to be eroded, there may develop weak Bones beneath rivers, and a careful evaluation of ground condition is important to construct structures passing through a river. DC resistivity method, however, has seldomly applied to the investigation of water-covered area, possibly because of difficulties in data aquisition and interpretation. The data aquisition having high quality may be the most important factor, and is more difficult than that in land survey, due to the water layer overlying the underground structure to be imaged. Through the numerical modeling and the analysis of a case history, we studied the method of resistivity survey at the water-covered area, starting from the characteristics of measured data, via data acquisition method, to the interpretation method. We unfolded our discussion according to the installed locations of electrodes, ie., floating them on the water surface, and installing them at the water bottom, because the methods of data acquisition and interpretation vary depending on the electrode location. Through this study, we could confirm that the DC resistivity method can provide fairly reasonable subsurface images. It was also shown that installing electrodes at the water bottom can give the subsurface image with much higher resolution than floating them on the water surface. Since the data acquired at the water-covered area have much lower sensitivity to the underground structure than those at the land, and can be contaminated by the higher noise, such as streaming potential, it would be very important to select the acquisition method and electrode array being able to provide the higher signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) data as well as the high resolving power. Some of the modified electrode arrays can provide the data having reasonably high S/N ratio and need not to install remote electrode(s), and thus, they may be suitable to the resistivity survey at the water-covered area.
