  • This paper presents an integrated underwater navigational algorithm for unmanned underwater vehicles, using additional two-range transducers. This paper proposes a measurement model, using two range measurements, to improve the performance of an IMU-DVL (inertial measurement unit - Doppler velocity log) navigation system for long-time operation of underwater vehicles, excluding DVL measurement. Extended Kalman filter was adopted to propagate the error covariance, to update the measurement errors, and to correct the state equation when the external measurements are available. Simulation was conducted with the 6-d.o.f nonlinear numerical model of an AUV in lawn-mowing survey mode, at current flaw, where the velocity information is unavailable. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the integrated navigation system, assisted by the additional range measurements without DVL sensing.

An On-Line Measurement of Ethanol Concentration by Membrane Gas Sensor (막가스센서에 의한 에탄올 농도의 온라인 측정)

  • A membrane gas sensor was developed for the measurement of ethanol concentration during acetic acid fermentation. The fermentation broth including ethanol was permeated through the silicone membrane by synthetic air as a carrier gas and was detected by a semiconductor gas sensor. The optimum conditions of membrane gas sensor were 20m1/min of flow rate and 0.5mm of membrane thickness. In acetic acid fermentation, an on-line measurement of ethanol concentration was conducted by the proposed membrane gas sensor and then the on-line sensor signal, was compared with the result of off-line analysis by gas chromatography. As a result, a correlated response over the range of $0∼70g/\ell$ was shown between membrane gas sensor and gas chromatography and this use of membrane gas sensor was experimentally ascertained for the monitoring and control of bioprocess like acetic acid fermentation.

  • Recently, as the road capacity reaches a limit and environmental problems become serious, there exists a gradual increasing need for railway vehicles that are environment-friendly, punctual, reliable and safe. Accordingly, in addition to conventional railroad vehicles, lots of vehicles are being newly developed. Using the developed installed measurement system, the performance characteristics of railway vehicle could be monitored precisely. After recording the input real time data of each signal from railway vehicle to the network line, we could acquire the needed information through post processing program. We could verify the running performances of railway vehicle using this system. As a result, many latent defects have been found and corrected in the prototype train. The measurement systems have contributed to dramatic reduction of the developing period.

  • In this paper, we present a system which enables a real-time measurement of the number and also the body length of the fry (baby fish) using a line image sensor. Here, we consider a situation that fry are transported from a pond to another, pond through a pipe. At one position of the pipe a transparent rectanglar channel is mounted. The images of the fry, which run through this rectanglar channel, are detected by a line image sensor. The image signals are digitized to binary ones and the contour of the fry are detected. After that, a real-time image analysis is executed with a digital signal processor. Labeling program analyses the connection of every pixel. The results are transfered to a personal computer and displayed on the online monitor graphically.

  • KHST(Korean High-Speed Train, 350km/h), composed of 7 cars that are 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under on-line test. To verify hte design requirements about the functions and traction performances of this train, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during on-line test. For this purpose, such as torque, velocity, voltage and current, must be measured. BRRI has developed the measurement system that can be measured vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of KHST. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances.

  • The measurement of OTF(optical transfer function) is used for evalution of imaging performance of optical system as a standard method. In the mass-production, the contrast measurement of projected patterns is also popular because of its simplicity. In this study, a computer program which evaluates the CTF(contrast transfer function) of optical system for periodic line-space patterns is developed by using the diffraction imaging theory. The MTF(modulation transfer function) and CTF of an aberrated system are evaluated and analyzed for the third order aberrations expressed by the C-coefficients and the Zemike polynomials.

  • In this paper, a method for the precise impedance measurement of coaxial loads using an offset open and short as the reflection standards and reference air lines with different lengths as the impedance standards is proposed. Measured input impedances of power sensors and thermistor mounts obtained from SWR bridges(5~400MHz) and a vector network analyzer(100~1,000MHz) are presented in the frequency range of 5MHz to 1,000 MHz.

  • A lot of R&D on the diagnosis of stator winding insolation for large rotating machines has been carried out since the 1970s. The on-line partial discharge measurement has proved to be an effective technique in the evaluation of the state of stator insulation in high voltage rotating machines. The purpose of this paper is to describe the method of the on-line partial discharge measurement on stator windings for hydro- generator with ceramic sensor and measuring system. We developed ceramic coupling sensor, partial discharge measuring system, terminal box and index parameters.

  • Most domestic fossil power plants have exceeded 100,000 hours of operation with the severe operating condition. Among the critical components of fossil power plant, high temperature steam pipe systems have had a many problems and damage from unstable displacement behavior because of frequent start up and shut down. In order to prevent the serious damage and failure of the critical pipe system in fossil power plants, 3-dimensional displacement measurement system was developed for the on-line monitoring. Displacement measurement system was developed with a use of a LVDT type sensor and two rotary encoder type sensors. This system was installed and operated on the real power plant successfully.

  • Regenerative energy generated by regenerative braking of DC traction can cause the system malfunction or damage to the rectifier, or malfunction of the power conversion device in power supply system by DC Line voltage rise in feeder line. Regenerative energy storage system using super capacitor is one of the ways to stabilize DC line voltage. In this paper, energy storage system of DC traction system using super-capacitor bank is implemented and using the field measurement data of the station N and the station S on the Line 2, the operation characteristics of line voltage caused by regenerative energy of electric trains are verified. Also, charge/discharge characteristics of super capacitor are verified as well. Thus, we can verify the operation characteristics of super-capacitor bank for regenerative energy storage system installed in DC Traction. And if we can use field measurement data of DC line voltage, we have obtained cost reduction. The stabilization of the system will be improved by measuring the operation characteristics of regenerative energy storage system in certain section operated by DC traction and predicting the capacity and lifetime of super-capacitor.
