  • Objectives To investigate the relationship between cervical intervertebral space narrowing in the X-ray and HIVD level of cervical spine in the CT image. Methods We studied 101 subjects who were taken cervical spine X-ray and CT. Intervertebral space were measured at the anterior, middle and posterior portion of each cervical disc in the X-ray. Considering individual difference, intervertebral space was set as value divided by upper width of lower vertebral body. We analyzed statistically adjusted intervertebral space of normal group and herniated disc group using student' t t-test. Results Intervertebral space of cervical spine was narrowed in the herniated disc group. But there was no significant difference at C2~C3. Conclusions We found that narrowing intervertebral space of cervical spine is associated with herniated disc. Further clinical observation is needed.

  • In contemporary society, Labyrinth and maze are used with the same meaning. They are also used by translating various meanings. But labyrinth and maze are exactly different meaning. The purpose of this study is to inquire about difference for understanding essential meaning between labyrinth and maze. First of all, this study is to grasp composition principles and the characteristics of space through example of labyrinth and maze from ancient to contemporary, prescribe about essential meaning between labyrinth and maze and examine contemporary architecture which is fit for essential meaning. As compositional Principle in labyrinth and maze applied to comtemporary architecture, the labyrinth are centrality, property of one-sideness, determinable space, on the contrary the maze are out of centrality, property of multi-sideness, indeterminable space. Finally, The aim of this paper is analyze exhibition space that suit to the characteristics of composition principle and find the characteristics in labyrinth and maze. Examples of exhibition space are Aldo Van Eyck's 'Sculpture Pavilion', Kazuyo Sejima's '21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art', Ben van berkel's'Museum Het Valkhof'. These research we studied the visitor's circulation and the architectural structure in exhibition space with the spatial characteristics and the compositional principle in labyrinth and maze.

  • The purpose of this study is to look into a Pilotis as a space of flow in Le Corbusier's works. The first of his principals, "pilotis" shown in "5 principals in new architecture" represents the articulated relationship between architecture and site. The study is based on the flow concept of Pilotis regarding especially its functional, environmental, and visual perspective. Le Corbusier describes his architecture as a circulation representing the modern society. The Pilotis space is often reserved for this circulation while this space is also suggested as a place for the leisure or the garden uninterrupted. So it seems to be meaningful to find out the real usage of the Pilotis space in Le Corbusier's work in order to clarify the relationship between the articulated space and its use proposed. The second question is concerning to the Pilotis space as a space of flow of the light and the air. This issue is not only related to the plastic aspects of the buildings, but also caused from the social, or environmental problematic of those days. Finally, the continuity of the regard is one of the most important characteristics derived from the raised volume by Pilotis.

  • BOH magnetometer was installed at Mt. Bohyun in 2007 and has provided continuous dataset for 3-axis geomagnetic field over the South Korea. We have calculated real-time K-index based on BOH magnetic field data using well-known FMI method. Local K-index is calculated eight times a day, per every three hours. To calculate K-index, it is critical to get the Quiet Day Curve (QDC). For QDC calculation, we take the previous one month's average of H-component. In this paper, we compared four geomagnetic stations' magnetic field data over South Korea and Japan and K-indices of each stations; Bohyun, Gangneung, Jeju, and Kakioka for two years data, 2011-2012. To investigate the difference depending on the latitude, longitude and local time in more detail, we compare K-index on International Quiet Days (IQDs) and International Disturbed Days (IDDs). As a result, we report the correlation between local K-indices are higher than those between Kp and local K-indices, and the correlation is much better after sunset than after sunrise. As the geomagnetic activity becomes stronger, the correlation between the local K-indices and global Kp-index become higher.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of task conditions (physical similarity between the spatial product and the reference space, presentation place of the spatial product) on children's spatial representation. The participants consisted of 40 3-year-olds and 40 4-year-olds. The results of this study are as follows. Both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds were capable of a greater degree of spatial representation when there was a high level of physical similarity between the spatial product and the reference space, and when the presentation place of the spatial product was in the reference space. 4-year-olds were capable of more accurate spatial representation than 3-year-olds. There was no significant difference in the children's spatial representation depending on the type of spatial product (scale model, map). The results revealed that the physical similarity between the spatial product and the reference space and the presentation place of the spatial product are essential in young children's spatial representation. Additionally, the results indicated that spatial representation of children develops gradually from when they are three to when they turn four.

  • There is a chilled ceiling panel which carries out the air conditioning by radiation and convection between the room and cold ceiling panel surface. In order to verify heat transfer characteristics between them in cooling system with radiant chilled ceiling panel, analytical and experimental studies were performed for various design and operating parameters such as tube space and diameter, inlet water temperature, mass flow rate, cooling load, and so on. In this study, we found that the tube space and inlet water temperature were more important elements than the tube diameter and water flow rate for the performance of radiant chilled ceiling panel. The cooling capacity of the radiant chilled ceiling panel had the maximum value of $65W/m^{2}$ because the highest cooling capacity was limited by the condensation on the panel surface. The results of comparison between numerical analysis and experiment showed a resonable agreement qualitatively, especially for low cooling capacity.

  • This study aimes to understand the principles in Theo Van Doesburg's architectural concept. Generally, Theo Van Doesburg has been thought that he betrayed De Stijl by acting contrary to the Neo-Plasticism which was constituted in early De Stijl by Mondrian and himself and by suggesting opposite one, Elementarism. Therefore this study tried to understand the principles that make his architectural concept, confirming the background of Elementarism. After studing relation, which Theo Van Doesburg has used, between space and color, it is concluded that he has unchanged principles of architectural concept from early De Stijl to last, opposite to general appreciation. So, Theo Van Doesburg acted to maintain equilibrium that exists for balancing the two elemental forces which contrast each other in relation between space and color. The equilibrium which he looked for aims to constitute harmonized dynamic space by dynamic rythem of equilibrium instead of Neo-Plastic effect. And using color, which used to be producing dynamic effect, he intended to maintain static effect for making dynamic rythem of equllibrium by the principles he made.

  • This Study tried to approach with a new Point of view about Green Design that had been studied on just Aesthetics and Function and it focused on creating a pleasant environment In the Interiors combing with Horticultural therapy as advanced study in Green Design. This study is barred on understanding that nature, human and space should continue to coexist through realizing relationship between nature and human and overcoming denaturalization and dehumanization and have an opportunity to know what a pleasant space for human is. Although pleasant space can be made by many different methods, this study start from the thought that a space with plants is the best to satisfy human's basic emotion. The method of study is through research and analysis with many kinds of references and examples, and then the results were used to make design guide which introduces Green Amenity Space in residential space. The pleasant space that human pursuits should be the human-centered space as well as the space giving them mental and physical satisfaction beyond space with just function and beauty. Therefore Green Amenity Space is the best space with which human is familiar.

  • The perceptual change and reproduction process of a space is distinguished from the difference between the Modem Times and the digitalized Post-modem Times. According to this changing aspect, the dwelling. concept is also progressed toward the escapeness from the regularly standardized settlement. But, as written above, the escapable dwelling behavior pattern is re-territorizated through new restriction and domination system. Among the newly re-territorized dwelling areas, the virtual space that included human being's equal in the contemporary meaning has already been on the surface in our daily life, it has been enlarging into all kinds of activity. The virtual space has the possibility to extend beyond a already well-used to physical space and time unlimitedly. But, owing to the ambiguous boundary between the real space and the virtual space, it is getting more important to define the spatial substance in the Digital Age. From now on, especially, the academical fields like a Architecture and a Interior Design that dealed with a living space have to give it a great shot. What I really want to say is that various approach about the space itself with the help of many sorts of so-called a Case Study could be a diversity & uniqueness out of a typical point of view about the study handling on space and time.

  • Space development has been independently performed by space agencies in each country. This causes redundant development for individual function, resulting in waste of space resources. Accordingly, Interagency Operations Advisory Group (IOAG) was established for standardization with mutual agreement between international organizations, and space resources can be used efficiently between space agencies through cross-support. IOAG define Service Catalog#1, #2, and #3, according to the network layer. In this technical paper, the background and main contents of the IOAG Service Catalog, and the application plan for domestic space development will be discussed.
