  • In this paper, we analyze the adjacent interference between WCDMA and M-WiMAX systems in the 2.6GHz Band under the SISO (Single Input Single Output) configuration. The interference scenarios are characterized into 8 scenarios with different victim and interfering links. Among the 8 scenarios, we find that the most performance loss is observed in the scenarios of victim uplink suffering interference from downlink in both systems. Besides, guard band is applied to mitigate the adjacent interference in all the scenarios. Especially, we reveal that M-WiMAX system is much more sensitive to adjacent interference than WCDMA system due to the lower transmission power. In this paper, we consider the worst interference environment, where interferers always transmit with the maximum power, a loose spectrum mask is adapted, and no additional channel fitters are equipped in both systems.

Narrowband Listen-Before-Talk under Coexistence with Wideband Systems in Unlicensed Spectrum (비면허대역에서 광대역 시스템과 공존을 위한 협대역 Listen-Before-Talk 기법 연구)

  • LTE's extension for unlicensed spectrum called Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) is equipped with Listen-Before-Talk (LBT) designed similar with the backoff mechanism of Wi-Fi for coexistence. However, Wi-Fi's backoff mechanism has not evolved from its old design for compatibility with legacy devices, thus LAA's LBT is not efficient either in utilizing spectrum. If LAA operates with no Wi-Fi systems in proximity, it can run more efficient LBT. In this paper, we propose Narrowband Clear Channel Assessment (NCCA) for narrowband transmission. In NCCA, an LAA node performs LBT in either wide or each narrow bandwidth segment. This allows multiple LAA nodes to perform simultaneous transmissions in orthogonal bandwidth segments in the same time slot. We design four variants of NCCA implementation and model their performance using a mathematical model. The coexistence performance of NCCA with conventional wideband nodes and the accuracy of the model are shown via simulation.

Analysis of Interference Impact of UWB System on WiBro System (UWB 시스템에 의한 WiBro 시스템에서의 간섭영향에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the impacts of Ultra Wide-Band(UWB) system applied in Indoor and Handhold communications using frequency band from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz on Wireless Broad-band(WiBro) system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) using frequency of 2.3 GHz. The Minimum Coupling Loss(MCL) method for the case of single interference and Monte Carlo(MC) simulation for multiple interference considering practical scenario were used to evaluate the interference effects of UWB system on WiBro system. As a result, the minimum separation distance between single interferer and the victim receiver required 34.4 m and above to guarantee the co-existence. Also, the UWB transmitting PSD of around - 81 dBm / MHz below should be required to meet the minimum throughput loss of WiBro mobile station in case of multiple UWB interference.

A study on comparing response times between Wibro and wired internet using portals (포털을 이용한 와이브로와 유선인터넷 응답속도 비교에 관한 연구)

  • The object of study is to compare the response times between WiBro and wired internet in terms of users. We conducted experiments using six portal sites such as Naver, Daum, Google, Paran, Nate, and Yahoo. Because we could not receive all signal levels of WiBro at the same palace, we compared WiBro levels 1~3 and wired internet. We verified wired internet is significantly the fastest among wired internet and than WiBro levels 1~3. We could not find which level is the fastest among WiBro levels 1~3. On average, wired internet is faster than WiBro level 1, 2 and 3 about 5.05, 4.20, and 4.14 times, respectively. In addition to comparing WiBro levels 4~5 and wired internet, more researches on accelerating the response times are needed.

  • Communication technology of future networks is predicted to provide a large variety of services including WiFi service in vehicular network. In this paper, we assume that vehicles are embedded with WiMAX antenna and in-vehicle terminals receive WiMAX traffic through WiFi interface. This assumption will impose severe performance degradation due to interference among mobile BSSs when WiFi access points (APs) are densely located. Existing interference avoidance techniques cannot properly resolve the above problems and do not cope with dynamically moving vehicular scenario since they focus only on the fixed network topology. In this paper, we propose a mobility-aware interference avoidance scheme for WiFi services. The proposed scheme computes the interference duration by exploiting mobility vector and location information of neighboring APs. If the interference duration is not negligible, our scheme searches for another channel in order to avoid interference. However, if the interference duration is negligible, our scheme continues to use the channel to reduce switching overhead. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed scheme against other existing techniques, we evaluated performance by using OPNET simulator. Through the simulation, we obtained about 60% reduction in the maximum interference frequency and about 67% improvement in throughput. Furthermore, our scheme provides fair channel usage.

Usefulness of subtraction pelvic magnetic resonance imaging for detection of ovarian endometriosis

  • Background: To minimize damage to the ovarian reserve, it is necessary to evaluate the follicular density in the ovarian tissue surrounding endometriosis on preoperative imaging. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the usefulness of subtraction pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect ovarian reserve. Methods: A subtracted T1-weighted image (subT1WI) was obtained by subtracting unenhanced T1WI from contrast-enhanced T1WI (ceT1WI) with similar parameters in 22 patients with ovarian endometriosis. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in ovarian endometriosis, which was classified into the high signal intensity and iso-to-low signal intensity groups on the T2-weighted image, was compared to that in normal ovarian tissue. To evaluate the effect of contrast enhancement, a standardization map was obtained by dividing subT1WI by ceT1WI. Results: On visual assessment of 22 patients with ovarian endometriosis, 16 patients showed a high signal intensity, and 6 patients showed an iso-to-low signal intensity on T1WI. Although SNR in endometriosis with a high signal intensity was higher than that with an iso-to-low signal intensity, there was no difference in SNR after the subtraction (13.72±77.55 vs. 63.03±43.90, p=0.126). The area of the affected ovary was smaller than that of the normal ovary (121.10±22.48 vs. 380.51±75.87 ㎟, p=0.002), but the mean number of pixels in the viable remaining tissue of the affected ovary was similar to that of the normal ovary (0.53±0.09 vs. 0.47±0.09, p=0.682). Conclusion: The subtraction technique used with pelvic MRI could reveal the extent of endometrial invasion of the normal ovarian tissue and viable remnant ovarian tissue.

Dual-Band Antenna Design for LTE/Wi-Fi for Maritime Broadband Communication (해상 광대역 통신을 위한 LTE/Wi-Fi용 이중대역 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we design an antenna for LTE / Wi-Fi communication that operates in 2.65 GHz and 5 GHz band for small-sized broadband communication antenna that can be used in the sea. Microstrip patch antennas were chosen to improve the bandwidth. The slot width, length, and transmission line width were calculated using the theoretical formula for each step. In addition, we designed a microstrip antenna using CST Microwave Studio 2014 program that can design 3D. Simulation results show that the reflection lossis -12.712 dB at 2.65 GHz and -16.583 dB at 5 GHz. The gain was 1.738 dBi at 2.65 GHz and 3.284 dBi at 5 GHz. In this paper, we propose a dual-band antenna for LTE / Wi-Fi, which can be used in maritime environments, which is worse than terrestrial communication, because of differences in communication speed and communication stability compared with those used on land.

Assessment of Safety Cultivation Zones for Sweet Persimmon by Warmth Index Change in South Korea (남한 온량지수의 변화와 단감의 안전재배에 관한 연구)

  • The monthly mean air temperature datasets of 61 stations in South Korea from 1973 to 2012 were collected to calculate trends in the warmth index (WI) and to analyze the potential enlargement of safety cultivation limit for sweet persimmon. The WI averaged over the last 40 years was 104.1 (℃·Month) at 61 stations, with the highest at Seogwipo station (WI=137.9) and the lowest at Daegwallyeong station (WI=60.9). It has increased by 1.8 (℃·Month) per 10 years over the last 40 years, with the highest in the year 1994 (WI=112.0) and the lowest in the year 1976 (WI=94.7). When the possible stations for sweet persimmon cultivation were classified by the basis on WI≥100, 38 out of the 61 weather stations were included in the safety cultivation zone for sweet persimmon for the last 40 years. On the other hand, the number of weather stations within the safety cultivation zones for sweet persimmon for the last 10 years (from 2003 to 2012) were 47 by adding additional 9 stations (Socho, Wonju, Chungju, Seosan, Uljin, Yangpyeong, Icheon, Cheonan, and Geochang stations). A further study of the climate conditions and soil characteristics is required for a better assessment of the safety cultivation zones for sweet persimmon.

Joint Scheme of IQ Imbalance Compensation and AGC for Optimal DFE in M-WiMAX Mobile Modem (M-WiMAX 시스템의 DFE 최적화를 위한 IQ 불균형 보상과 AGC 결합 기법)

  • M-WiMAX (Mobile-Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) system, which uses OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique, is known to be proper for mobile high-speed data transmission system. Nevertheless, M-WiMAX is seriously sensitive to IQ imbalance caused by the LO (Local Oscillator) at the receiver. In this paper, we analyze the effect of IQ imbalance on the system, and then propose a joint optimization scheme that can optimize DFE (Digital Front-end) of mobile modem by combining operation duplicated between AGC (Automatic Gain Control) and the estimation and compensation of IQ imbalance. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves the same performance of the conventional scheme while reducing the complexity of the H/W implementation.

Comparison of Bio-Optical Properties of the Yellow Sea and the East Sea using SeaWiFS Data (SeaWiFS 자료를 이용한 황해와 동해의 생물광학 특성 비교)

  • Three lines from $36_{\circ}$ N, $124_{\circ}$ E, and $132_{\circ}$ E of the East Sea and the Yellow Sea were chosen to extract spectra of normalized water leaving radiances. Comparative analysis of the OCTS algorithm and SeaWiFS(OC-2) algorithms was presented here. OCTS algorithm have more overestimate than SeaWiFS(OC-2 algorithm) for detecting chlorophyll concentration. Atmospheric correction algorithm that is excluded the effect of SS in the case 2 water need for long term ocean environmental monitoring of the East Sea and the Yellow Sea. And, considered the effect of CDOM and SS, bio-optical algorithm have to be developed in this research.
