  • Due to the expensiveness of IKONOS Pro and Precision Products, it is attractive to use the low-cost IKONOS Geo Product with vendor-provided RPCs to produce highly accurate mapping products. The imaging geometry of IKONOS high-resolution imagery is described by RFs instead of rigorous sensor models. This paper presents four different models defined respectively in object space and image space to improve the accuracies of the RF-derived ground coordinates. The four models include the offset model, the scale & offset model, the affine model and the 2nd-order polynomial model. Different configurations of ground control points (GCPs) are carefully examined to evaluate the effect of the GCPs arrangement on the accuracy of ground coordinates. The experiment also evaluates the effect of different cartographic parameters such as the number location, and accuracy of GCPs on the accuracy of geopositioning.

  • In this paper, we present the effect on a novel transmission line filter response by the etch hole position on the suspended ground and the residue on the resonator under ground plane. We defined the etch hole offset as the distance from the sidewall of the suspended ground to the nearest side of the etch holes. We simulated new filter responses to reflect the real value of the changed etch hole offset caused by characteristics of negative photoresist. Return loss is distorted by the residue on the center conductor remained after sacrificial layer removing. By comparison of simulation and measurements, we concluded the residue on the resonator distorted the RF response worse than etch hole offset variation did.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of ground impedance in the low frequency region regarding the transiant state on the soil and ground electrodes(rod, electric rod with needles, electric mesh). The grounding resistance playing an important part in substation grounding designs is measured. Especially, the reduction effect of ground impedance by using the electric rod with needles in the soils are presented.

  • The object of this study is to determine the application of friction and ground stress type CGP(Compaction Grouting Pack)-anchor in retaining wall construction on the soft ground by executing in the fill deposit with abandoned coal. In this study the effect of CGP-anchors as retaining wall anchor on the soft ground anchor was evaluated through measuring displacement according to tensile strength by acting tensile strength after equipping CGP-anchors. From the field tests results, CGP-anchor was determined to be considerably effective as retaining wall anchor on the soft ground by showing that the maximum displacement was 60mm and the elastic displacement was within 50mm by 53ton tensile strength.

Effect of construction sequence on three-arch tunnel behavior-Numerical investigation

  • This paper concerns a numerical investigation on the effect of construction sequence on three-arch (3-Arch) tunnel behavior. A three-arch tunnel section adopted in a railway tunnel construction site was considered in this study. A calibrated 3D finite element model was used to conduct a parametric study on a variety of construction scenarios. The results of analyses were examined in terms of tunnel and ground surface settlements, shotcrete lining stresses, loads and stresses developed in center column in relation to the tunnel construction sequence. In particular, the effect of the side tunnel construction sequence on the structural performance of the center structure was fully examined. The results indicated that the load, thus stress, in the center structure can be smaller when excavating two side tunnels from opposite direction than excavating in the same direction. Also revealed was that no face lagging distance between the two side tunnels impose less ground load to the center structure. Fundamental governing mechanism of three-arch tunnel behavior is also discussed based on the results.

Impact of Smut (Sporisorium scitamineum) on Sugarcane's Above-Ground Growth and the Determinants of the Disease Intensity in the Ethiopian Sugarcane Plantations

  • The development of sustainable smut management techniques requires an understanding of the impacts of smut on sugarcane growth and the relationships between smut intensity and meteorological variables, varieties, and crop types. Thus, assessments were made with the objectives to 1) determine the effect of smut on the above-ground growth of sugarcane, and 2) quantify the association of smut with weather variables, varieties and crop types. The effect of smut on above-ground growth was assessed in six fields planted with NCo 334 (wider coverage) having 6 months of age in Fincha and Metehara fields in 2021. Data on above-ground growth were taken from 20 randomly selected smut-affected and healthy stools from each field. Besides, 6 years' data (2015 to 2021) on the numbers of smut-affected stools and smut whips of 79 fields were collected. Furthermore, 10 years' (2011 to 2021) weather data were acquired from the sugar plantations. The results demonstrated reduction in the above-ground growth of sugarcane in the range of 18.39% and 73.42% due to smut. In addition, weather variables explained about 68.48% and 66.58% of the variability in the number of smut-affected stools and whips respectively. Smut intensity increased with crop types for susceptible varieties. The tight association between the smut epidemic and crop types, varieties, and weather, implied that these parameters must be carefully considered in management decisions. Continuous monitoring of smut disease, meteorological variables, varieties, and crop types in all the sugarcane plantations could be done as a part of integrated smut management in the future.

트랙터의 조타력 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Steering Torque Characteristics of Tractor)

  • The purpose of this paper was to investigate experimentally the steering torque characteristics of a tractor operated in various ground conditions. The experiments were conducted with the tractor reconstructed for steering torque test of the tractor at two different off-road conditions (ground-I and ground-II) and a on-road condition (ground-III), three different levels of tire inflation pressures (69 kPa, 138 kPa and 207 kPa), and four different levels of axle loads (4120 N, 4730 N, 5340 N and 5950 N). The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) The steering torque was increased with the increase in steering angle for all experimental levels of ground conditions, axle loads and inflation pressures of tire. 2) As the axle load increased, the steering torque of the tractor increased for all ground conditions, and the increasing rate of the steering torque with the increase of axle load was greater at on-road than at off-road. 3) As the tire inflation pressure decreased, the steering torque increased. Also the increasing tendency of the steering torque with decreasing the tire inflation pressure showed that the harder the ground was, the larger the effect was. But for the soft ground condition, ground-I, no specific trend with inflation pressures was found. 4) Steering angle-steering torque relationship with ground conditions showed that the increasing rate of the steering torque was greater at on-road than off-road for small steering angle under 10 degree, and was greater at off-road than on-road for large steering angles over 10 degree.

The Effects of Nitrite Treatment on the Lipid Composition, Fatty Acid Composition, and Susceptibility to Oxidation of Pork Biceps Femoris Muscle

  • The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the antioxidant effect of nitrite on total, neutral, and polar lipids and fatty acid composition in laboratory-cooked ground pork. Muscle samples (Biceps femoris) were analyzed using Iatroscan, gas chromatography, phosphorus content, and TBARS value. The total and neutral lipid contents of muscle were higher in nitrite-untreated meat (0 ppm) than in nitrite-treated meat (100 ppm) but the reverse was observed for polar lipid contents. The results for neutral lipids showed a similar trend when compared with total lipids. Polyunsaturated fatty acids contents of total, neutral and polar lipid in 100 ppm treated meat were higher than that of 0 ppm. The phosphorus content was higher in 100 ppm meat than in 0 ppm but the reverse was observed for TBARS value. These results showed that the addition of 100 ppm nitrite to ground pork resulted in a remarkable antioxidant effect during refrigeration storage.

채널 내를 운행하는 초고속 지상 운행체의 공력특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a High-speed Ground Vehicle Moving in a Channel)

  • 초고속 지상 운행체에 대한 풍동실험을 통하여 단단한 채널과 운행체 사이에 발생하는 공력 상호작용을 연구하였다. 풍동실험시 유속은 30m/see에서, 단위길이당 레이놀즈수는 $3.1{\times}10^5/m$였다. 가변지면과 안내로와 같은 실험장치들이 이 실험을 위해 사용되었다. 운행체는 지면과 운행체 사이의 거리가 가까워질수록, 안내로 사이의 간격이 좁아질수록 양력은 급격히 증가하였고, 항력은 미세하게 감소하였으며, 키놀이 모멘트는 억제되어 정안 정성을 증대시켰다. 연선을 사용한 유동가시화를 통하여 운행체가 채널 내를 운행할 때의 유동 특성을 채널이 없는 경우와 비교하였고 공력측정 결과를 뒷받침하였다. 채널 지연과 안내로의 영향으로, 운행체 하부에서의 유동은 날개의 익단판 외부로 흐르지 못하며, 이것이 운행체 양력증가의 주요 원인이 되었다.

연약지반 표층처리공법 설계정수(지지력계수$N_c$, 인장력$T_i$) 산정방법에 관한 고찰 (A Study on Determining the Design Parameter ($N_c$, $T_i$) of the Surface Reinforcement Method for Soft Ground)

  • This study, as basic research which was intended to develope the surface reinforcement method using reinforcement material which is applicable to very soft ground in Korea, was aimed at proposing the design parameter for the surface ground improvement method. To that end, a wide width tensile test using geotextile, geogrid and steel bar (substitute for bamboo) and 25 kinds of the laboratory model tests with the end restraint conditions of the reinforcement that comprises the constrained and partially constrained (3 types) conditions were conducted. And the result indicated that the modulus of subgrade reaction or $N_c$ value (5.3) apparently overestimated the bearing capacity of very soft ground such as dredged ground. Moreover, as a result of model test by partially constraining the preload of 23.0kgf using geotextile, the effect of bearing capacity($q_1$) appeared to be the largest till the loading stress was $0.4tf/m^2$ due to cohesion, while it reached 75% of the maximum bearing force after $0.4tf/m^2$ due to increase in the effect of bearing capacity($q_2$) caused by the tensile force of the reinforcement. Such results tended to have appeared constantly or very similarly with each other, irrespective of the type of reinforcement (geogrid, steel bar) and constraint conditions.
