  • Metallic copper nanoparticles were synthesised by reduction of copper ions in aqueous solution, and metal-metal bonding by using the nanoparticles was studied. A colloid solution of metallic copper nanoparticles was prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of $CuCl_2$ (0.01 M) and an aqueous solution of hydrazine (reductant) (0.2-1.0 M) in the presence of 0.0005 M of citric acid and 0.005 M of n-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (stabilizers) at reduction temperature of $30-80^{\circ}C$. Copper-particle size varied (in the range of ca. 80-165 nm) with varying hydrazine concentration and reduction temperature. These dependences of particle size are explained by changes in number of metallic-copper-particle nuclei (determined by reduction rate) and changes in collision frequency of particles (based on movement of particles in accordance with temperature). The main component in the nanoparticles is metallic copper, and the metallic-copper particles are polycrystalline. Metallic-copper discs were successfully bonded by annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ and pressure of 1.2 MPa for 5 min in hydrogen gas with the help of the metalli-ccopper particles. Shear strength of the bonded copper discs was then measured. Dependences of shear strength on hydrazine concentration and reduction temperature were explained in terms of progress state of reduction, amount of impurity and particle size. Highest shear strength of 40.0 MPa was recorded for a colloid solution prepared at hydrazine concentration of 0.8 M and reduction temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, the highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tb$ glass capsule type TLDs are fabricated and their trap parameters are determined. The optimum conditions of fabricating of $CaSO_4:Tb$ phosphor was obtained to be in impurity concentration of Tb 1.0 mol% and sintering of $600^{\circ}C$, 2 hr. The glow curve of $CaSO_4:Tb$ consists of three glow peaks and these peaks are isolated by thermal bleaching method. Activation energy of the three glow peaks measured by the initial rise, the peak shape and the heating rate method are 0.70, 0.87, and 1.03 eV. The frequency factors are $1.76{\times}10^9,\;1.74{\times}10^9$, and $9.77{\times}10^8\;s^{-1}$, and the kinetic orders are 1.12, 1.46, and 1.34, respectively. The isolated glow peaks are fitted by least square method and optimum temperature range of the main peak for radiation dosimetry is $230{\sim}295^{\circ}C$.

  • Photoluminescence (PL) of neutron-irradiated GaN films and nanowires is investigated in this study. The GaN films and nanowires were irradiated by neutron beams in air at room temperature, and the neutron-irradiated films and nanowires were annealed in an atmosphere of $NH_3$ at temperatures ranging from 500 to $1100^{\circ}C$. The line-shapes of the PL spectra taken from the neutron-irradiated GaN films and nanowires were changed differently with increasing annealing temperature. In this study, light-emitting centers created in the neutron-irradiated GaN films and nanowires are examined and their origins are discussed. In addition, it is suggested here that the neutron-transmutation-doping is a simple and useful means of homogeneous impurity doping into nanowires with control of the doping concentration.

  • Impurity removal from metallurgical grade silicon by acid washing at $50^{\circ}C$ was investigated by employing sulfuric, nitric acid and the mixture of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid. Acid washing treatment had no effect on the removal of boron and the concentration of this clement after treatment was rather increased. In our experimental range, the removal percentage of phosphorus was 60%. In the acid washing with sulfuric and nitric acid, the removal percentage of major impurities was below 50%, which indicates that refining effect was not great with these acids. Acid washing with the mixture of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid led to removal percentage of higher than 90%. Data on the purity of silicon after acid washing at various conditions are reported.

  • This paper describes the feasiblity of recycling sewage dredged soils as fine affrefate. This paper describes the feasibility of recycling sewage dredged soils as fine aggregate. The specific gravity of the dredged soils was smaller than that of sand due to the effect of dredged sludge. However, the grain size distribution of the dredged soils is relative well graded, and the results of the heavy metal concentration from the leaching test of the dredged soils was significantly lower than the requirements of the allowable criteria. Therefore, the effect of recycling of dredged soils on environment the as fine aggregate was negligible. Also, the specific gravity of the dredged and washed soils was similar to that of sand, and the dredged and washed soils for the most part showed lower heavy metal leaching characteristics than those of dredged soils, Also, the results of the study for evaluation the recycling feasibility of dredged and washed soils as fine affrefate. The organic impurity content of the dredged and washed soils was lower than the requirements of the Korean industrial Standards, and the mortar compressive strength using the washdredged soils also met those of the Korean industrial Standards. And, the strengths of the dredged and washed soils were over 95% of those of the NaOH-treated samples. Therefore, it is expected that the dredged soils will be able to be an alternative for fine aggregate.

  • This study discribes performance of DEFC (Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell) utilized bio-ethanol based on fruit wastes. To produce the bio-ethanol, fruit wastes were treated at temperature $120^{\circ}C$ and 90minutes in acid pre-treatment. After pre-treatment was done, alcohol fermentation process was running. Initial alcohol concentration was 5%. Using the multi coloumn distillation system, more than 95% ethanol was distilled and each component of bio-ethanol was analyzed. In DEFC performance test, it was revealed that cell performance was much higher than that of ethanol. Comparing ethanol with mixed fuel (bio-ethanol (10%) + ethanol (90%)), the performance of ethanol was higher than that of mixed fuel. Even though the bio-ethanol from the fruit wastes is corresponded with transport ethanol standards, it thought that organic matter in bio-ethanol could be negative effect on fuel cell.

  • Continuous and dense ZIF-7 membranes were successfully synthesized on ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ porous substrate via two-step crystallization technique. ZIF-7 seeding layer was first deposited on porous ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrate by in-situ low temperature crystallization, and then ZIF-7 membrane layer can be grown through the secondary high-temperature crystallization. Two synthesis solutions with different concentration were used to prepare ZIF-7 seeding layer and membrane layer on porous ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrate, respectively. As a result, a continuous and defect-free ZIF-7 membrane layer can be prepared on porous ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrate, as confirmed by scanning electron microscope. XRD characterization shows that the resulting membrane layer is composed of pure ZIF-7 phase without any impurity. A single gas permeation test of $H_2$, $O_2$, $CH_4$ or $CO_2$ was conducted based on our prepared ZIF-7 membrane. The ZIF-7 membrane exhibited excellent H2 molecular sieving properties due to its suitable pore aperture and defect-free membrane layer.

  • This gas analysis data come from the hydrogen which is produced by proton exchange membrane. Main impurities of hydrogen are methane, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The concentration of impurities is ranged between 0.0191 to $315{\mu}mol/mol$ for each impurity. Methane contamination is believed from the electrode reaction between carbon doped electrode and produced hydrogen. Nitrogen contamination should take place the sampling process error, not from PEM hydrogen Production system.

  • The effect of aliovalent dopents, $Nb_3O_5$ and MnO, on the grain growth kinetics of 12 mol% ceria stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Ce-TZP) was studied. All specimens were sintered at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes prior to annealing at different temperatures to study grain growth kinetics. Grain growth kinetics of Ce-TZP and 1 mol% $Nb_2O_5$ doped Ce-TZP (Ce-TZP/$Nb_3O_5$) during annealing at 1475, 1550, and $1600^{\circ}C$ adequately matched with square law $(D^2-D_\;o^2=k_at)$. However, grain growth in 1 mol% MnO suppressed grain growth in Ce-TZP by drag force exerted by $Mn^{+2}$ ions which segregated strongly to the positively-charged grain boundaries of Ce-TZP, $Nb_2O_5$ enhanced grain growth by increasing the concentration of vacancies of $Zr^{+4}$ ion and $Ce^{+4}$ ions. Surface analysis with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed the segregation of Mn+2 ions to grain boundaries. The kinetics of grain growth obtained in the base Ce-TZP and the Ce-TZPs with the aliovalent dopants were examined in the context of impurity drag effect and space charge effect.
