  • Since the behavior of structural members subjected to blast load shows different responses, the effect of impulse as well as peak load should be considered in the damage analysis. The threshold on P-I diagram that causes specific damage level divides the diagram into the failure zone and the non-failure zones. In this study, numerical analysis is performed based on single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) techniques to generate rational P-I diagram considering material non-linearity and dual failure modes (flexure and direct shear) of RC beams. From the comparison with existing test results it is concluded that proposed numerical method is good to derive failure mode of RC beam under blast load.

  • The subject of this investigation is to study the buckling of cross-ply laminated orthotropic cylindrical thin shells with variable elasticity moduli and densities in the thickness direction, under external pressure, which is a power function of time. The dynamic stability and compatibility equations are obtained first. These equations are subsequently reduced to a system of time dependent differential equations with variable coefficients by using Galerkin's method. Finally, the critical dynamic and static loads, the corresponding wave numbers, the dynamic factors, critical time and critical impulse are found analytically by applying a modified form of the Ritz type variational method. The dynamic behavior of cross-ply laminated cylindrical shells is investigated with: a) lamina that present variations in the elasticity moduli and densities, b) different numbers and ordering of layers, and c) external pressures which vary with different powers of time. It is concluded that all these factors contribute to appreciable effects on the critical parameters of the problem in question.

  • A mathematical model is developed in this paper to define the interaction between the occupant and vehicle passenger compartment and to predict the occupant dynamic response during a sudden impulse load. Two different types of occupants are considered in this study, child and adult occupants. The occupants are considered as lumped masses connected to the child seat and vehicle's body masses by means of restraint systems. In addition, the occupant restraint characteristics of seat belt and airbag are represented by stiffness and damping elements. To obtain the dynamic response of the occupant, the equations of motion of the occupants during vehicle collisions are developed and analytically solved. The occupant's acceleration and relative displacement are used as injury criteria to interpret the results. It is demonstrated from the numerical simulations that the dynamic response and injury criteria are easily captured and analyzed. It is also shown that the mathematical models are flexible, useful in optimization studies and it can be used at initial design stage.

  • This research is presented for optimizing the coefficients of spring and damper by impulse which is applied to AGV when the two containers are loaded on AGV. The suspension is estimated to the condition that two containers, initial velocity of container, initial height of container and maximum of suspension stroke. The coefficients of spring and damper are calculated numerically through Newmark method uses finite difference expansions. The procedure of calculation is applied by one DOFs of mass-spring-damper system. The coefficients of spring and damper have large value as increase of height or decrease of stroke. The result of calculation is shown in graph and the investigation is used AGV design.

  • For a lightly damped system, IIR based filter can have better performance than FIR filter as an adaptive filter in ANC algorithm. IIR based filter which has an infinite impulse response can model a lightly damped acoustic system with a small number of weights compared that of FIR filter and has no nonlinearity and instability problems on weight updating process which are associated to the conventional IIR filters. There are, however, some drawbacks such as design parameters to be determined earlier to get better performance and much increased computational power especially in the presence of error path. In this study, base filter parameters are determined in systematic manner, with the knowledge of the nominal impulse response of the system which should be identified, by Prony's method. Three methods reducing the computational load are proposed and their performance and application limits are discussed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, the method for soil-structure interaction analyses in the time domain is proposed. The far field soil region which is the outside of the artificial boundary is modeled by using explicit frequency-dependent two dimensional infinite elements which can include multiple wave components propagating into the unbounded medium. Since the dynamic stiffness matrix of the far field soil region using the proposed infinite elements is obtained explicitly in terms of exciting frequencies and constants in the frequency domain, the matrix can be easily transformed into the displacement unit-impulse response matrix, which corresponds to a convolution integral of it in the time domain. To verify the proposed method for soil-structure interaction analyses in the time domain, the displacement responses due to an impulse load on the surface of a soil layer with the rigid bed rock are compared with those obtained by the method in the frequency domain and those by models with extend finite element meshes. Good agreements have been found between them.

  • The present paper explores forced vibrational properties of porosity-dependent functionally graded (FG) cylindrical nanoshells exposed to linear-type or triangular-type impulse load via classical shell theory (CST) and nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT). Employing such scale-dependent theory, two scale factors accounting for stiffness softening and hardening effects are incorporated in modeling of the nanoshell. Two sorts of porosity distributions called even and uneven have been taken into account. Governing equations obtained for porous nanoshell have been solved through inverse Laplace transforms technique to derive dynamical deflections. It is shown that transient responses of a nanoshell are affected by the form and position of impulse loading, amount of porosities, porosities dispensation, nonlocal and strain gradient factors.

  • In this article, the effect of different geometrical, materials and load parameters on the transient response of axisymmetric viscoelastic functionally graded annular plates with different boundary conditions are studied. The behavior of the plate is assumed the elastic in bulk and viscoelastic in shear with the standard linear solid model. Also, the graded properties vary through the thickness according to a power law function. Three types of mostly applied transient loading, i.e., step, impulse, and harmonic with different load distribution respect to radius coordinate are examined. The motion equations and the corresponding boundary conditions are extracted by applying the first order shear deformation theory which are three coupled partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The resulting motion equations are solved analytically using the perturbation technique and the generalized Fourier series. The sensitivity of the response to the graded indexes, different transverse loads, aspect ratios, boundary conditions and the material properties are investigated too. The results are compared with the finite element analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic response of the mandible to impact and provide insight into the fracture mechanism of the mandible, by 3-dimensional finite element method. The finite element model of the mandible was developed and calculated using NASTRAN/XL (MSC co. U.S.A.) and the linear dynamic transient analysis was performed according to the impulsive force direction, force type and impulse time to the mandible. At first, the load was applied on the mandibular symphysis, body, angle and subcondylar area in the horizontal mandibular plane and the computed stress-time histories at 14 locations of the mandible were obtained. Secondly, the impulsive force was directed to the symphyseal area with changing the force magnitude and impulse time, and calculated the node displacement at 8 locations of mandible. The conclusions from from this study were as follows. 1. The appearance of impulsive energy transmission was different to the direction of impulse to the mandible. 2. The impulsive stress and deformation were larger in lingual or medial side than buccal or lateral in the mandible. 3. The velocity, appearance of energy transmission and the fracture pattern in mandible were affected rather impulse time than force. 4. The horizontal impact to the one side of mandible did not have effect on the stress and displacement of contralateral mandible. From the above results, fracture pattern in symphysis can be showed as simple or comminuted, multiple or associated in body and angle and solitary in subcondyle area.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical of K-Pop dance movement. The study was conducted on 15 male and 15 female subjects in 20-30 age groups. And they choose 150 K-Pop dance choreographies in the top 10 ranking of the main charts. We analyzed the RoM, joint moment and impulse force of the highlight movements. First, During the K-Pop dance motion, the usage of knee joints are more than the hip joints and the ankle joints, and female dancers has a larger range of motion than the male dancers. Second, male dancer uses more than female dancers when they compared the load of male dancers and female dancers. In particular, flexion and extension of the hip joints are mostly used in this study. Third, the impulse force of male dancers was greater than of female dancers, but it was statistically insignificant, this is equal to the impulse on walking. In conclusion, Female dancers use more range of motion than male dancers, but male dancer choreography requires greater torque, which can strain joints. Most choreographic exercises involve movements such as hip joint, knee joint, flexion of ankle joint, extension, rotation, and jumping.
