  • This study presents the simulation of the traction return current based on 2${\times}$25kV power supply system in order to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit on the Kyoungbo electrification line. The results of simulation enables us to measure the precise intensity of catenary current, returning to the substation through KTX (Korean Train Express) operated by 2${\times}$25kV power supply system with common earth network. In the wake of establishing 2${\times}$25kV and common earth network used in Korea for the first time, in particular, it is possible to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit, which is applicable to the Kyoungbo electrification line by specifying the relations among the traction return current, earth current, and catenary current.

  • This paper presents the operating characteristic of high voltage impulse(HVI) track circuit owing to the ill-contact of impedance bond lead wire. The characteristic operations of the track include rail voltage and current. Measurements are carried out using oscilloscope with current probe and it analyzed the abnormal operation due to connector of protective wire. Finally, suitable track circuit is proposed for conventional line, and operating characteristic of HVI track circuit is affected by bypass circuit.

  • In this paper, impulse response of giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) is identified by using M-transform. First, the displacement of GMM was measured by using the dual frequency laser interferometer. The noise included in the measured signal was removed by using M-transform. The impulse response of the GMM was identified from the input current of the driving coil and the displacement.

  • The most difficult problem encountered in impulse test of transformer is the determination of exact fauly for coil layer short. This paper is to establish one of improved standards in the above case by means of wave form analysis, based on the equivalent circuits and experimental investigation. During the fault occurs, the local oscillation in fault circuit is applicable where as the reflection wave is utilized to the main circuit. The result current wave form at neutral impeadance point is similar to the wave form by impulse test and has the singular wave form respectively.

  • The electrical characteristics of $A{\sim}C's$ ZnO varistors fabricated according to variable sintering condition, which sintering temperature is $l130^{\circ}C$ and speeds of pusher are A: 2mm/min, B: 4mm/min, C: 6 mm/min, respectively, were investigated. The varistor voltage of $A{\sim}C's$ ZnO varistors sintered at $1130^{\circ}C$ increased in order A < B $A{\sim}C's$ ZnO varistors exhibited below 2mA at rated voltage. Lightning impulse residual voltage of A's ZnO varistor suited standard characteristics, which is 3.85kV at 2.5kA, 4.4kV at 5kA and 5.16kV at 10kA. After multi lightning impulse residual voltage test of A's ZnO varistor exhibited good discharge characteristics which ZnO varistor reveals no evidence of puncture, flashover, cracking in visual examination. After high current impulse test of A's ZnO varistor exhibited good discharge characteristics, which variation rate of residual voltage is 0.4% before and after test, and revealed no evidence.

  • The microstructure and electrical characteristics of A~C's ZnO varistors fabricated according to variable sintering condition, which sintering temperature is $1130^{\circ}C$ and speeds of pusher are A: 2mm/min, B: 4mm/min, C: 6mm/min, respectively, were investigated. In the microstructure, A~C's ZnO varist-ors fabricated variable sintering condition was consisted of ZnO grain(ZnO), spinel phase$(Zn_{2.33}Sb_{0.67}O_4)$ Bi-rich $phase(Bi_{2}O_{3})$, wholly. Varistor voltage of A~C's ZnO varistors sintered at $1130^{\circ}C$ increased in order A < B < C's ZnO varistors. C's ZnO varistor exhibited good characteristics that nonlinear exponent is 31.70. Leakage current of A~C's ZnO varistors exhibited below 2mA at rated voltage. Lightning impulse residual voltage of A's ZnO varistor suited standard characteristics, which is 3.85kV at 2.5kA, 4.4kV at 5kA and 5.16kV at 10kA. • The existence of peroodic impulse noises in distribution line carrier (DLC) communication system is known to be the most serious obstacle for improving DLC communication quality in reliability and capacity. From the spectral points, impulse noises can be divided into baseband type and modulation type the noise width of whichs are much different each other. With each nose type, this study presents the basic characteristics in relation to what they originate from and how their spectrum properties are revealed. The baseband type impulse noise is normally caused from thyristor circuit running with low switching speed and the modulation type noise from the circuit of switching power supply. The base wave of modulation noise is shown to be the pulsuatic charging current to primary condenser in switching power circuit. The study result indicates also that placing the DLC carrier frequency away the band predominated by modulated noise especially from RCC type switching power circuit is very important in DLC design.

  • When a shock wave arrives at an open end of tube, an impulse wave is discharged from the tube exit and causes serious noise and vibration problems. In the current study, the effect of the cross-sectional area of tube on the impulse wave is numerically investigated using a CFD method. The Harten-Yee's total variation diminishing(TVD) scheme is used to solve the axisymmetric, two-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Euler equations. With three different cross-sectional areas of tube, the Mach number of the incident shock wave $M_{s}$ is varied between 1.01 and 1.5. The results obtained show that the directivity and magnitude of impulse wave strongly depend upon the Mach number of incident shock wave and are influenced by the tube area. It is also known that the tube cross-sectional area significantly affects the magnitude of impulse wave at or near the tube axis.

  • When a shock wave arrives at an open end of tube, an impulse wave is discharged from the tube exit and complicated flow is formed near tube exit. The flow field is influenced by the cross-sectional geometry of tube exit, such as circular, square, rectangular, trapezoid and etc. In the current study, three-dimensional propagation characteristics of impulse wave discharged from the tube exit with non-circular cross section are numerically investigated using a CFD method. Total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is used to solve the three-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Euler equations. Computations are performed for the Mach numbers of the incident shock wave $M_{s}$ below 1.5. The results obtained show that the peak pressure of the impulse wave and propagation directivity depends on the cross-sectional geometry of tube exit and the Mach number of incident shock wave.

  • In order to verify the extended theory, we have fabricated a two layers cable with the same twisting layer pitch. It was observed that almost all the operational current less than the critical current flowed on the outer layer because of its lower inductance. In case of operational current more than critical currents of layers, the flux flow resistances affect strongly current waveform and thereby the currents of layers were determined by the flux flow resistances. And we investigated withstand voltage, impulse voltage and breakdown characteristics of mini-model cable. In these test, the withstand voltage and impulse voltage test was satisfied and the breakdown voltage was 110kV.
