Environment Emission and Material Flow Analysis of Chromium in Korea

  • With the stabilization of Korea's industrialization, it has become interested in the efficient use of rare metals, climate change and industrial environment and safety etc. It is thus making efforts to implement economic policies that address such issues. Therefore it is necessary to understand the demand, supply and use of metal materials. Since 2010, the Korean government has developed the integrated material flow methodology and has been trying to examine the demand, supply and use of metal materials. In 2013, the Korean government surveyed the material flow of chromium. Material flow analysis and environment emission of chromium were investigated 8 steps; (1) raw material, (2) first process, (3) Intermediate product, (4) End product, (5) Use/accumulation, (6) Collection, (7) Recycling, (8) Disposal. Chromium was used for stainless steel, alloy steel, coated sheets, refractory material and coating materials. Recycling was done mainly in use of stainless steel scrap. To ensure efficient use of chromium, process improvement is required to reduce the scrap in the intermediate product stage. In the process of producing of the products using chromium, it was confirmed that chromium was exposed to the environment. It requires more attention and protection against environment emission of chromium.

미국 및 유럽 의료기기 품목분류 체계 분석을 통한 국내 의료기기 품목분류 개선 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Domestic Medical Device Product Classification through Analysis of Medical Device Classification System in the U.S. and Europe)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive medical devices with different management systems through comparison of domestic and overseas medical device product classification systems and to propose management conversion measures for the products. The definitions of medical devices were compared and the scope of medical devices defined by each country was confirmed through surveys of the Medical Device Act, Federal Food, Drug & Cosmetics Act (FD&C) in the U.S., and Medical Device Regulations (MDR) in Europe. Using the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's regulations on medical device products and grades, 21 CFR part 860-892 and product code classification files in U.S., and EMDN in Europe as basic data to compare medical device products and derive medical devices with different management systems. As a result of comparing the definition and product classification systems of medical devices in Korea, the U.S. and Europe, medical device accessories, prosthetic limbs and aids among assistive devices for persons with disabilities, drugs, quasi-drugs and industrial products that are not managed by medical devices in Korea are managed as medical devices in the U.S. and Europe. This study aims to improve public health by securing systematic product safety management and essential performance under medical device regulations. Management within a single medical device system will increase the efficiency of licensing work of domestic medical device manufacturers and related organizations. It is also expected to help advance the system according to the international harmony of the item classification system and enhance smooth import and export competitiveness.

  • With the international change in the medical device market owing to the development of innovative medical engineering and the use of various raw materials, a systematic and rational medical device classification system is needed to safely manage newly developed medical devices. This study aims to improve the domestic medical device classification system by proposing product establishment and segmentation. It is based on medical device products from the United States and Europe that are only available in foreign systems and are more subdivided than domestic products. This study analyzes and compares the domestic and foreign medical device classification systems by examining laws, guidelines, and analysis reports in Korea, the United States, and Europe. In accordance with product establishment and segmentation criteria, products subject to improvement are presented. This study contributes to safely managing medical devices that do not fit with the current classification system and to solving the confusion caused by the lack of international harmony in product classification systems.

안전인증기준 성능화에 대한 기반 연구 (A Basic Study on the Performance Improvement of Safety Certification Standards)

  • 연구목적: 본 논문은 미래 산업발전과 환경변화에 대한 안전인증기준의 합리화를 위하여, 안전인증기준의 성능화에 대한 문제점을 검토하고 개선방향을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법: 문헌조사 및 실무자 면담조사를 통해 안전인증 체계에 대한 문제점과 한계점을 정리하고, 안전인증기준의 현황을 설계기준과 성능기준 그리고 세부적인 기준으로 분류하여 현황 분석을 실시한다. 그리고 조사 및 분석한 결과를 종합하여 안전인증기준의 성능화를 위한 개선사항을 제시한다. 연구결과: 조사를 통해 안전인증의 문제점과 한계점은 정부주도의 인증체계운용, 정형화된 인증기준, 인증개선에 장시간이 소요, 인증기준 마련체계의 부실, 업계의견 반영의 부족 등 6가지로 정리 할 수 있었다. 그리고 인증기준을 성능 및 설계기준으로 구분하여 분석한 결과, 기계 및 설비, 방호장치의 경우, 설계기준이 69.7% 및 64.9%로 높게 나타난 반면, 보호구의 경우 성능기준이 61.1%로 높게 나타났다. 설계기준 중심의 안전인증기준을 성능화하기 위해서는 인증기준의 성능화 가능성 판단, 검사시험방법의 규정 가능성 판단 등이 전제되어야 한다. 그리고 성능화를 위해서는 제조물책임법강화, 시장모니터링 등 체계화, 인증시험 업무의 분산, 민간의 인증기준 마련 참여 등의 제도기반 및 인프라 구축이 필요한 것으로 검토 되었다. 결론: 연구를 통해 우리나라 안전인증제도의 문제점과 한계점을 정리하고 성능화 필요성에 대하여 검토 하였다. 안전인증기준의 성능화는 법령정비, 인프라 구축 등 준비 작업이 필요한 사항으로 중장기적인 추진이 필요하다. 또한 전체 안전인증기준의 성능화 보다는 인증대상 품목별로 성능화 요건을 검토하여 추진하고, 세부적인 사항은 추가적인 연구를 통해 구체화해 나가야 한다.

건축용 난연 목재 개발에 대한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Development of Fire-retardant Treated Wood for Construction)

  • This study investigates fire-retardant performances and combustion/thermal characteristics of fire-retardant treated wood by comparing them with those of fire-retardant untreated wood from the expreimental resutls of cone calorimeter and thermo-gravimetric(TG) analyzer. Hazardousness of combustion product gases for fire-retardant treated wood and untreasted wood were also observed from the results of internal finish material incombustibility test according to the Korea standard code of KS F 2271. In this study, we also tried to improve the fire retardant performance of wood by applying fire-retardant chemical composites, and to secure the fire safety performance in buildings. Red pine (Pinus densiflora) was selected as a test specimen because it is mostly used as a building material in Korea. Fire retardant chemical composites (FRCs) were prepared by mixing boron, phosphorous, and nitrogen species and treated by press-impregnation method. Water-based FRCs were composed of 3% boric acid($H_3BO_3$), 3% borax decahydrate($Na_2B_4O_7$), 8% ammonium carbonate($(NH_4)_2CO_3$), diammonium phosphate ($(NH_4)_2HPO_4$) varied from 10-30% and potassium carbonate($K_2CO_3$) varied from 10-30%. From the test results of cone calorimeter, TG analysis and gas hazard assessments, newly proposed were the optimal composition and production methods of FRCs which can sufficiently meet fire-retardant level 3 based on Korea law of construction. Thus, the FRCs, developed in this study, are anticipated to contribute to the improvement of fire safety and widespread of usage in wood as building materials.

Comparison of Culture, Conventional and Real-time PCR Methods for Listeria monocytogenes in Foods

  • We compared standard culture methods as well as conventional PCR and real-time PCR for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) in milk, cheese, fresh-cut vegetables, and raw beef that have different levels of background microflora. No statistical differences were observed in sensitivity between the two selective media in all foods. In total, real-time PCR assay exhibited statistically excellent detection sensitivity (p<0.05) and was less time consuming and laborious as compared with standard culture methods. Conventional culture methods showed poor performance in detecting L. monocytogenes in food with high levels of background microflora, generating numerous false negative results. While the detection of L. monocytogenes in fresh cut vegetable by culture methods was hindered only by L. innocua, various background microflora, such as L. innocua, L. welshimeri, L. grayi, and Enterococcus faecalis appeared on the two selective media as presumptive positive colonies in raw beef indicating the necessity of improvement of current selective media. It appears that real-time PCR is an effective and sensitive presumptive screening tool for L. monocytogenes in various types of foods, especially foods samples with high levels of background microflora, thus complementing standard culture methodologies.

  • 최근 들어 IoT와 스마트홈의 발전에 따라 낙상 사고 감지, 화상 위험 감지와 같이 일상 생활에서의 안전 감지 기능이 많이 보급되기 시작했다. 이러한 안전 감지 기능은 대부분 인공지능에 의해 수행된다. 그러나 실험실 환경에서 안전 감지의 정확도만 평가하는 경우에는 실제로 일상 생활 환경에서 체감하게 되는 성능과 꽤 큰 차이를 보이는 경우가 많다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위해 사용하는 두 가지 기법인 리빙랩과 혼동 매트리스를 소개한다. 리빙랩은 단순히 일상 생활환경의 모사를 넘어서 사용자가 직접 기술 개발 및 제품 설계에 참여할 수 있는 통로가 된다. 또한 혼동 매트리스에서 도출되는 다양한 성능 척도는 사용 목적에 적합하게 인공지능 시스템의 성능을 평가하는데 큰 도움을 준다.

한의사의 간접구 이용실태에 대한 조사 연구 (Survey on the Status of Utilization of mediate Moxibustion by Korean Medicine Doctor)

  • Objectives : We examined the use of the moxibustion through survey on Korean Medicine Doctors (KMDs) on preparation of universal moxa product standard by fully reflecting opinions of practitioners and the industry. Methods : The questionnaire is composed of 25 questions including use of indirect moxa, side effects, complaints and improvements, general characteristics and so on, and were responded by 1,588 KMDs. For statistics, frequency analysis, chi-square analysis, T-test and ANOVA were conducted using SPSS 12.0 for windows, and the significance level was 0.05. Results : In this research, 91% of the responded KMDs was using moxibustion, and the proportion of using mediate moxibustion was shown as 63.2%. They used mediate moxibustion for side effects of direct moxa method such as risk of burn, ease of use, control of stimulation and so on. And it was mostly being conducted to women and 40 ages. Most respondents gave moxibustion treatments for the purpose of thermal stimulation on acupoint to musculoskeletal diseases. Most respondents were treating 1~2 pieces of moxibustion to patients by moxibustion points to those of 1~2 regions every time within 10 minutes. Regarding the frequency of side effects of mediate moxibustion, within 3% of respondents had experienced side effects, and the types were burn, flare and itchiness, odor and smoke. The dissatisfaction of mediate moxibustion products was moderate(2.00 out of 5 point scale), and went up public health doctors, the younger ages and the shorter clinical experience. Complaints on mediate moxibustion products were serious odor, poor attachment, risk of burn etc. Regarding ways to improve mediate moxibustion, the expansion of moxibustion's insurance cost carne out highest, followed by preparation of manual on efficacy, strengthening of training, acquiring evidence on efficacy, diversification of specifications, safety improvement, quality improvement of mediate moxibustion products. Conclusions: Many KMDs use for ease of use and give moxibustion treatments for thermal stimulation but they complain about safety, efficacy and quality of mediate moxibustion. After this it is considered that we have to elevate therapeutic effect through the improvement of mediate moxibustion products.

젓갈제품의 미생물학적 품질표준화에 관한 고찰 (Critical Review on the Microbiological Standardization of Salt-Fermented Fish Product)

  • 전통발효 식품인 멸치 젓갈은 영양적 특성과 우수한 기능성으로 인하여 한국적인 식단에서 매우 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있는 조미식품 중의 하나이다. 멸치젓갈은 원료와 제조 기법상에 있어서 위생학적인 안정성과 함께 개선해야 할 많은 문제점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 주로 멸치 젓갈의 숙성에 관여하는 미생물상과 미생물의 분리 방법 그리고 최종 제품의 품질향상을 위하여 추진해야 할 연구 방향 등에 대하여 고찰하였다. 멸치젓갈에 관여하는 미생물은 세균속에서는 Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp., Pediococus sp. 및 Micrococcus sp. 등의 균속이 우세하며, 그 외 Vibrio sp., Clostridium sp., Serratia sp., Achromobacter sp., Streptococcus sp., Brevibacterium sp., Halobacterrium sp., Flavobacterium sp., Corynebacterium sp., Acinetobacter sp., Sarcina sp.와 Staphylococcus sp. 등이, 효모균속에서는 Torulopsis sp. 및 Saccharomyces sp. 등이 분리되는 것으로 보고되었다. 젓갈 제조 공정의 과학화와 제품의 균일성을 위해서는 이러한 복합 미생물 중 우수균주를 유전자 조작으로 개량시켜 발효 및 숙성 기간의 단축과 동시에 최종제품의 품질을 향상시킨다. 그리고 품질표준화를 위해서는 유용미 생물을 탐색하여 다양한 제품 개발과 아울러 최종제품의 상품성을 유지 할 수 있는 위생학적인 관리로써 유통 안정성을 확보하여야 할 것이다.

1인 가구의 소비성향 분석을 통한 홈퍼니싱 제품전략 연구 (A Study of Home-furnishing Products Strategy through the Consumption Tendency Analysis of Single Household)

  • Single households currently account for 26.5% of all households and their number is expected to continue to rise, reaching 34.5% by 2035. An analysis of the consumption trends and needs of single households shows that they are rising as a new consumer group with a focus on investment on the individual and favouring: small but high-tech products: efficient use of limited resources: safety and peace of mind: self-improvement and leisure. Products which meet such demands are having an impact on the growth of home-furnishing market. An analysis of companies in Korea's home-furnishing market, with examples like the lifestyle company IKEA, shows a variety of brands such as SPA brand, furniture specialist, distributor and character products. And yet most are OEM products which lack differentiated product lines and compete with similar display and distribution structure. We needs the Single household consumption tendency of home-furnishing market and differentiation strategy through product analysis. In order to increase the value of companies in the home-furnishing market, in addition to differentiated design, product competitiveness must aspire to higher customer satisfaction with easy assembly, innovation in logistics, innovative sales methods such as virtual-reality simulation for products and space, individually-tailored furniture for the needs of single household and products which combine smart technology. For home-grown home-furnishing brands to have competitiveness, they must leverage on the strengths of the industry, offering differentiated and competitive products in a wider range of areas with convergence functions as well as differentiation in consumer interface and application of advancing technology; in-depth product research is called for.
