Methods to Improve Light Harvesting Efficiency in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

  • Methodologies to improve photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) are reviewed. DSSC is usually composed of a dye-adsorbed $TiO_2$ photoanode, a tri-iodide/iodide redox electrolyte and a Pt counter electrode. Among the photovoltaic parameters of short-circuit photocurrent density, open-circuit voltage and fill factor, short-circuit photocurrent density is the collective measure of light harvesting, charge separation and charge collection efficiencies. Internal quantum efficiency is known to reach almost 100%, which indicates that charge separation occurs without loss by recombination. Thus, light harvesting efficiency plays an important role in improvement of photocurrent. In this paper, technologies to improve light harvesting efficiency, including surface area improvement by nano-dispersion, size-dependent light scattering efficiency, bi-functional nano material, panchromatic absorption by selective positioning of three different dyes and transparent conductive oxide (TCO)-less DSSC, are introduced.

  • In this paper, we studied efficiency improvement of linear ultrasonic motor using projection. The principle of ultrasonic motor is to use an elliptic motion generated at the side of the vibrator, and the elliptic motion of the ultrasonic motor was obtained by complex oscillation of L$_1$-B$_4$ mode. As the experimental results, the efficiency of linear ultrasonic motor without projection was 1.52[%] when applied voltage was 56[V] in resonance frequency 58.4[kHz]. The efficiency of linear ultrasonic motor using projection was 3.36[%] when applied voltage was 56[V] in resonance frequency 58.4[kHz]. The efficiency was improved by projection.

  • In the structure of ITO/HIL/$Alq_3$/Al device, we investigated an efficiency improvement of the Organic Light-Emitting Diodes depending on thickness variation of hole-injection layer. Using the thermal evaporation in a base vacuum $5{\times}10^{-5}$[Torr], we have measured efficiency after the $Alq_3$ was evaporated to 100 [nm] as a deposition rate $1.5[{\AA}/s]$. In optimal condition, when PTFE thickness increased from 0 to 3.0 [nm], we have obtained that an optimal thickness of PTFE was 2.5 [nm]. And using the PTFE, luminance efficiency and external quantum efficiency of the device were improved by 12.8 times and 11.1 times, respectively.

  • According to the liberalization of the air transport industry, the operation of airport also takes account of economic efficiency. The owners or the operators of an airport or airport systems want to know what is the best way to achieve the best performance in the aspect of economic efficiency and they are willing to improve the airport operation system. Prerequisite for the improvement of economic efficiency is to measure the performance of not only their own airports but the other airports. This study presents the result of performance measurement of Korean airports. The overall costs performance, labor productivity, capital productivity, revenue performance and profit performance are estimated and interpreted. As conclusions, the suggestion about airport system improvement is presented.

  • An Empirical study was done for finding the e-service quality of public administration focused on customer relationship management(CRM). The e-service quality of public administration was categorized as system quality, information quality, service quality, and CRM after doing a literature review in e-service quality and public administration. The validity and reliability of a questionnaire were examined through factor analysis and regression analysis was done using the customer satisfaction and efficiency improvement of public administration as dependent variables and the 7 factor scores from the factor analysis as independent variables. The results show for that 6 factors are not only very important in explaining the customer satisfaction but also partially important for efficiency improvement of public administration. In particular, CRM has significant effect on both customer satisfaction and efficiency improvement of public administration.

  • In order to examine the tailorability of advanced sewage treatment of a separated sewer pipe, we observed the quality of leaked water in a reactor. A2C affiliation and MBR affiliation decreased by over 78% in cases of BOD, COD, and SS. SBR affiliation decreased by 79.1% in a case of T-N. Overall, the efficiency of T-N on the above affiliations was low. SS had the high efficiency in MBR affiliation. In the end, examination of water quality improvement showed that the quality was improved from 20% to 90%; hence, it is expected that this treatment can protect the water resources of the Hongcheon River and makes it easier to use the water of the river.

  • This paper suggests loss analysis and calculation methods for efficiency improvement of power conversion equipment in detail. The detailed loss analysis and calculation has been conducted for 3.3kW On-board Battery Charger considering temperature condition. The validity of the analysis and calculation method is verified by simulation model.

  • There are lots of buildings which were built before the Legislation on building energy rating system. Remodeling of the buildings would be required for an improvement of the building energy rating system was enforced by the government. In the Passive Building Design, Elements which will be used for the remodeling are Insulation, Window, External venetian blind, Heat exchanger. The Purpose of this study is to indicate a Method for the improvement of Energy saving by an analysis of Construction Cost, Cost Evaluation, Energy performance Efficiency in applied design elements. In this study, the remodeling of existing public buildings to improve energy efficiency rating was applied to extract the elements of design-specific energy performance, efficiency, and the application of the designs that has been analyzed. The results were as follows: applying the design-specific cost-effective investment that represents the economy (investment efficiency/%) surveyed the average insulation(7.0%), triple glazed windows(10.1%), double glazed windows(12.1%), external shading(24.5%), and Heat(77.2%) were analyzed in order to be more efficient. Analysis of the basis of information on the existing public buildings to improve energy efficiency rating for the remodeling depending on driving conditions at a degree of individual difference. The main effect, however, depending on economic investment, design elements, heat exchangers, external awning, double glazed windows, triple glazed windows, insulation, is recommended as review of the order shall be determined.

  • This study is to suggest some improvement directions of the criteria for the management evaluation in order to contribute to the achievement of lasting value of the continuous development and publicity in regard to the public library means-efficiency. To this end, This study analyzed the means-efficiency evaluation criteria via theoretical review on business analysis of private enterprise and the analysis framework based on it. The improvement of evaluation criteria in regard to efficiency for the continuous development of public library are as follows. 1) Regardless of domestic and foreign, an efficiency index in the performance evaluation index of public library is absolutely insufficient. The sufficient indexes measuring efficiency which is appropriate for the concept of performance should be developed. 2) A flow data representing input and performance in certain time period is insufficient. Therefore, evaluation index consisted of flow data should be more developed. 3) Long term stock data is excluded in the term cost as it is the cost used for the long term such as fixed assets. However, it is useful as input data, which is realized through the perfect accounting.

Coatings Properties and Efficiency Performance of Cr-DLC Films Deposited by Hybrid Linear Ion Source for Hydraulic Gear Pump (하이브리드 선형이온원에 의한 유압 기어펌프용 Cr-DLC코팅막의 특성과 효율성능)

  • This paper describes the results of the application of Cr-Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films for efficiency improvement through surface modification of spur gear parts in the hydraulic gear pump. Cr-DLC films were successfully deposited on SCM 415 substrates by a hybrid coating process using linear ion source (LIS) and magnetron sputtering method. The characteristics of the films were systematically investigated using FE-SEM, nano-indentation, sliding tester and AFM instrument. The microstructure of Cr-DLC films turned into the dense and fine grains with relatively preferred orientation. The thickness formed in our Cr buffer layer and DLC coating layer were obtained the 487 nm and $1.14\;{\mu}m$. The average friction coefficient of Cr-DLC films considerably decreased to 0.15 for 0.50 of uncoated SCM415 material. The hardness and surface roughness of Cr-DLC films were measured 20 GPa and 10.76 nm, respectively. And then, efficiency tests were performed on the hydraulic gear pump to investigate the efficiency performance of the Cr-DLC coated spur gear. The experimental results show that the volumetric and mechanical efficiency of hydraulic gear pump using the Cr-DLC spur gear were improved up to 2~5% and better efficiency improvement could be attributed to its excellent microstructure, higher hardness, and lower friction coefficient. This conclusion proves the feasibility in the efficiency improvement of hydraulic gear pump for industrial applications.
