  • Direct tracking problem of moving noncircular sources for multiple arrays is investigated in this study. Here, we propose an improved unscented particle filter (I-UPF) direct tracking method, which combines system proportional symmetry unscented particle filter and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. Noncircular sources can extend the dimension of sources matrix, and the direct tracking accuracy is improved. This method uses multiple arrays to receive sources. Firstly, set up a direct tracking model through consecutive time and Doppler information. Subsequently, based on the improved unscented particle filter algorithm, the proposed tracking model is to improve the direct tracking accuracy and reduce computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed improved unscented particle filter algorithm for noncircular sources has enhanced tracking accuracy than Markov Chain Monte Carlo unscented particle filter algorithm, Markov Chain Monte Carlo extended Kalman particle filter, and two-step tracking method.

  • To improve the noise characteristics, software-based noise reduction algorithms are widely used in cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) pixelated semiconductor gamma camera system. The purpose of this study was to develop an improved median filtering algorithm using a thresholding method for noise reduction in a CZT pixelated semiconductor gamma camera system. The gamma camera system simulated is a CZT pixelated semiconductor detector with a pixel-matched parallel-hole collimator and the spatial resolution phatnom was designed with the Geant4 Application for Tomography Emission (GATE). In addition, a noise reduction algorithm with a median filter using an improved thresholding method is developed and we applied our proposed algorithm to an acquired spatial resolution phantom image. According to the results, the proposed median filter improved the noise characteristics compared to a conventional median filter. In particular, the average for normalized noise power spectrum, contrast to noise ratio, and coefficient of variation results using the proposed median filter were 10, 1.11, and 1.19 times better than results using conventional median filter, respectively. In conclusion, our results show that the proposed median filter using improved the thresholding method results in high imaging performance when applied in a CZT semiconductor gamma camera system.

  • This paper proposes an efficient adaptive echo canceller using pilot filter approach to achieve improved convergence speed. The pilot filter is an adaptive filter with only a few filter coefficients to filter the received signal for the purpose of whitening the signal. Thus the convergence speed of the main LMS-TDL filter combined with the pilot filter is improved. In the proposed echo canceller, an adaptive lattice predictor as the pilot filter is used and its inverse filter is used to equalize the distorted near end talker signal. Simulation results for colored signal show that the convergence speed of the proposed echo cancellation algorithm is faster than that of the conventional LMS-TDL echo cancellation algorithm.

  • This study aimed to analyze the applicability of the improved median filter in positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) fusion images based on parallel imaging using generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisition (GRAPPA). In this study, a PET/MR fusion imaging system based on a 3.0T magnetic field and 18F radioisotope were used. An improved median filter that can set a mask of the median value more efficiently than before was modeled and applied to the acquired image. As quantitative evaluation parameters of the noise level, the contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and coefficient of variation (COV) were calculated. Additionally, no-reference-based evaluation parameters were used to analyze the overall image quality. We confirmed that the CNR and COV values of the PET/MR fusion images to which the improved median filter was applied improved by approximately 3.32 and 2.19 times on average, respectively, compared to the noisy image. In addition, the no-reference-based evaluation results showed a similar trend for the noise-level results. In conclusion, we demonstrated that it can be supplemented by using an improved median filter, which suggests the problem of image quality degradation of PET/MR fusion images that shortens scan time using GRAPPA.

  • As an important technology of the internetwork, wireless sensor network technique plays an important role in indoor localization. Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) problem has a large effect on indoor location accuracy. A location algorithm based on improved particle filter and directional probabilistic data association (IPF-DPDA) for WSN is proposed to solve NLOS issue in this paper. Firstly, the improved particle filter is proposed to reduce error of measuring distance. Then the hypothesis test is used to detect whether measurements are in LOS situations or NLOS situations for N different groups. When there are measurements in the validation gate, the corresponding association probabilities are applied to weight retained position estimate to gain final location estimation. We have improved the traditional data association and added directional information on the original basis. If the validation gate has no measured value, we make use of the Kalman prediction value to renew. Finally, simulation and experimental results show that compared with existing methods, the IPF-DPDA performance better.

  • As the visual quality of X-ray images is a critical reference for the accuracy of the clinical diagnosis, the methods to improve the quality of X-ray images have been investigated. Among many existing methods, using frequency domain filter is a very powerful method to improve the visual quality of images. In this paper, the inherent noises of the input images are suppressed by adding the Laplacian image to the subjected image. The medical X-ray images using the optimal high pass filter has shown improved edges. Further, the optimal high frequency emphasis filter has shown the improved contrast of flat areas by using the result image from the optimal high pass filter. Also the resulting images of the global contrast have improved by the histogram equalization. As a result, the proposed methods have shown enhanced contrast and edges of the images with noise canceling effect.

  • Aiming at the defect detection quality of denim fabric, this paper designs an improved algorithm based on the optimized Gabor filter. Firstly, we propose an improved defect detection algorithm of jean fabric based on the maximum two-dimensional image entropy and the loss evaluation function. Secondly, 24 Gabor filter banks with 4 scales and 6 directions are created and the optimal filter is selected from the filter banks by the one-dimensional image entropy algorithm and the two-dimensional image entropy algorithm respectively. Thirdly, these two optimized Gabor filters are compared to realize the common defect detection of denim fabric, such as normal texture, miss of weft, hole and oil stain. The results show that the improved algorithm has better detection effect on common defects of denim fabrics and the average detection rate is more than 91.25%.

  • This paper presents a tracking filter of radar beacon system (RBS) for automatic takeoff and landing of an unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed tracking filter is designed as the decoupled tracking filter to reduce the computational burden. Also, an adaptive estimation method of the measurement error covariance is proposed to provide an improved tracking performance compared to the conventional decoupled tracking filter whenever the accuracy of RBS observations is degraded. 100 times Monte Carlo runs performed to analyze the performance of the proposed tracking filter in case of normal operation and degraded operations, respectively. The simulation results show that the proposed tracking filter provides the improved tracking accuracy in comparison with the conventional decoupled tracking filter.

  • Many communication systems require bandpass filters with sharp skirt frequency characteristics in order to avoid the interferencce, which results in more order in the filter design. However, because of the limited Q values bandpass filters made of small sized ceramic resonators suffer from relatively large ripples at the band edges as the order of the filter increases. In order to compensate the large ripples while maintaining the sharp skirt frequency we propose a new RF amplitude equalizer. The equalizer made of two pole bandpass filter and an amplifier whose amplitude characteristics are the reverse of those of the bandapss filter. At the cellular band 9-pole bandpass filter with 10 MHz bandwidth exhibits 3 dB ripple when 8mm*8mm ceramic coaxial resonators are used. We added the RF equalizer to this filter and the flatness is improved as less than 1 dB.

  • A new filter-bank is proposed in order to track center frequency of narrow bard signal. The filter-bark proposed here has a laster and a slave filter bark. The two barks are connected in series-parallel. The master filter bank which is made of traditional filter bank detects the center frequency roughly. And the performance for tracking center frequency is greatly improved by the slave filter bank which is based or energy-difference estimator. Computer simulations show that it achieves a good tracking accuracy.
