Preference on Domestic Brand and Imported Brand of Cosmetics (국산화장품과 수입화장품의 브랜드 선호도에 관한 연구)

  • This research is to figure out how people recognize and perceive on cosmetic attributions of imported brand and domestic brand. In other words, we are trying to analyze the brand images and figure out how they are different in demographic perspective. For this research, this research has been fulfilled from September 20th 2011 to November 5th. We have surveyed women with age between 20's to 50's. With 477 data, we have analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 Version of statistic package. We have used frequency analysis, t-test and one way ANOVA (chi-square test) for data processing method. By comparing and analyzing the 16 attribute types of imported and domestic cosmetics, there were no attention difference on 7 questionaries' but there were attention difference on 9 questionnaires'. 5 questionaries' which show higher recognition on domestic brand of cosmetic than imported brand were shown. 4questionaries' which show higher recognition on imported brand of cosmetic than domestic brand were shown. By examining the different recognitions between domestic brand and imported brand of cosmetics in demographic perspective, it did not show any attentive difference on domestic brand by district residence, age, academic ability, marriage, occupation and monthly income average. But it showed attentive difference on imported cosmetic brand. It showed that people who live in capital region, with younger age and who have not been married have high rate of preference on imported cosmetic brand. It also showed that people who have higher academic ability and with higher monthly income average have high rate of preference on imported cosmetic brand. Especially, specialized job showed highest preference.

A Study On the Brand Image of Korean Herbal Cosmetics (한방화장품의 브랜드 이미지에 관한 연구)

  • This paper provides comparison and analysis between brand images of Korean herbal cosmetics and general, imported cosmetic brands, focusing on product's symbolic and functional images. The objective is to evaluate brand images of Korean herbal cosmetics to suggest a powerful brand image strategy that will be different and competitive. Data collection was performed on 300 adult women who were over 20 years of age and lived in Seoul or KyongKi area. Analysis was carried out using SPSS version 11.5 and frequency analysis, T-Test and $X^2$ verification was also performed. Analysis results for brand images of Korean herbal cosmetics are as follows. First, satisfaction scale as a purchase feature for users of Korean herbal cosmetics were 'Normal' 51.5%, 'Satisfactory' 35.1%, 'Very Satisfactory' 8.2% and 'Unsatisfactory' 5.2%. Regarding improvements, 'Efficacy, Effect' was the highest with 46%. Second, 'SEOLHWASOO' and 'BAEKOKSENG' among Korean herbal cosmetic brands, 'IOPE' and 'ISA KNOX' among general cosmetic brands and 'LANCOME' and 'CHANEL' among imported cosmetic brands displayed high recognition. Third, the symbolic and functional images of Korean herbal cosmetic brands were seen to be better compared to their general and imported counterparts. Especially, product related features of Korean herbal cosmetic brands received a more positive response compared to imported brands, which suggests that with research and improvement regarding non-product related features, functional images of herbal brands may be appraised ahead of imported brands. Fourth, there is a significant difference in brand preference according to the satisfaction of groups who actually use herbal cosmetics and the purchasing attitudes of groups who do not. Therefore, an active relationship marketing strategy is required to maximize satisfaction and to elicit favorable attitudes. By developing functional native ingredients, constructing data that can prove its efficacy and effects, and appealing its unique, differentiated symbolic value together with Orientalism, herbal medicines will be able to take off to be acknowledged worldwide.

  • L&P Cosmetic, the leading company selling mask packs on the global market, produces MEDIHEAL, the number-one best-selling mask pack brand in Korea and the best-selling imported mask pack brand in China (2017). The company pioneered the premium market for mask packs through its launch of premium mask packs in 2009, and has subsequently achieved outstanding success in Korea and China. Three key factors have contributed to the success of L&P Cosmetic: product leadership with R&D capability, strategic marketing programs tailored for each market segment, and operational excellence focusing on strategic outsourcing and partnership management. Nonetheless, globalization beyond the Chinese market remains a major challenge for the potential of L&P Cosmetic. Effect of Perceived Overseas Cosmetic Brand Personality on the Preference (외국산 화장품 브랜드의 개성 지각이 선호에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study examines women in 20s~30s who start applying adult makeup and are sensitive to cosmetics and makeup techniques to understand the influence of overseas cosmetic brands' personality on their preference to provide overseas cosmetic brands with unique personality marketing resources. The following summarize the findings of this study: first, overseas cosmetic brands' personality factors were aesthetics, performance, interest, competency, and boldness. Second, among imported brands, the most preferred brand was Christian Dior, followed by Bobbi Brown, Chanel, SK-II, and Estee Lauder. Third, the subjects preferred Chanel when they perceived its aesthetics, performance, and competency and Christian Dior when they perceived its aesthetics and performance and did not perceive its boldness as much. They preferred Estee Lauder when they perceived its aesthetics and competency and Bobbi Brown when they perceived its aesthetics, performance, and competency and did not perceive its boldness as much. In case of SK-II, they preferred it when they perceived its aesthetics, performance, interest, and competency.

Effect of Brand Popularity in a Foreign Market on Consumer Behavior in a Franchise Cosmetic Retailer's Online Shop

  • Purpose: As consumers have difficulty in brand choice due to excessive information, using brand popularity as an advertising cue (e.g., Sales No. 1, Hit Product) has been getting more attention as an effective curation strategy for decreasing consumers' cognitive efforts. Accordingly, recent studies empirically demonstrate that consumers tend to prefer and choose a brand with a popularity cue and offer a useful information regarding how to use a popularity cue in marketing communication. However, extant research has mainly focused on investigating the impact of "brand popularity in a domestic market" on consumer behaviors. Thus, little is known about the effect of "brand popularity in a foreign market" on local consumers' decision-making process. Given that domestic consumers tend to purchase imported products from overseas countries, it can be meaningful information for global companies. Therefore, this research derives and tests the five hypotheses to examine how local consumers respond to brand popularity in a foreign market as an advertising cue. Specifically, it tests the three hypotheses regarding the direct and indirect effects of brand popularity in a foreign market on risk perception and purchase intention. Then, it tests two additional hypotheses about moderating effects of psychic distance on the relationship between brand popularity and risk perception as well as on the relationship between brand popularity and purchase intention. Seventy participants are exposed to an advertisement for an Indian cosmetic brand using a popularity cue in Indian market and answer the questions about brand evaluation. For data analysis, regression analysis is employed. The findings of this research show that perceived brand popularity lowers local consumers' perceived risk with a foreign brand. However, perceived brand popularity does not have a direct impact on purchase intention while it has an indirect effect through perceived risk. Meanwhile, psychic distance moderates the effect of perceived brand popularity on perceived risk level, but it has no impact on the relationship between brand popularity and purchase intention. This research is one of the first studies that demonstrate the positive impact of brand popularity in a foreign market on a local consumer's purchase decision, and it shows the effect can be moderated by psychic distance.

Analysis of Previous Make-up Study (화장에 관한 기존연구 유형의 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the previous make-up studies. A number of publications and journals were reviewed and analyzed carefully. The results of review and analysis were as follows: There were many different subjects in make-up studies and They can be divided into ten types : cosmetics purchase behavior, change of make-up culture and comparison, make-up trend by era, cosmetics industry's standing of today and strategy, art trend in make-up, brand preference of cosmetics, make up attitude, recognition about imported cosmetics and purchase behavior, color preference of cosmetics, the relationship between self-concept and make-up. In general, the cosmetic purchase behavior studies are conducted most actively. According to result that analyze existent study, special duality of cosmetics purchase action appears very variously according to standard of classification of study target and study target. But, study target and method of study are not various, and purchase behavior study collected with make-un and clothes is yew lacking. Therefore, in this study, wished to discover problem of virtue study because analyzes studies about previous make-up and present forward study direction.
