  • Two round jets. impinged and pulsed. were measured with high-resolution 3D-PTV technique. The measurement system consists of three CCD cameras, Ar-ion laser, an image grabber and a host computer. Two fitness functions were introduced in a genetic algorithm in order to enhance the correspondences of the particles. One was based on a concept of the continuum theory and the other one was based on a minimum distance error. The velocity profiles of the impinged jet obtained by the constructed 3D-PTV system were compared with those of LDV measurements made in this study. The head vortex of the jet was visualized by LIF and was reconstructed by the constructed high-resolution 3D-PTV system for comparisons.

  • A 4D-PTV system was constructed. The measurement system consists of three high-speed high-definition cameras, Nd-Yag laser(10mJ, 2000fps) and a host computer. The GA-3D-PTV algorithm was used to extract three-dimensional velocity vectors in the measurement volume. A horizontal impinged jet flow was measured with the constructed system. The Reynolds number is about 40,000. Spatial temporal evolution of the jet flow was examined in detail and physical properties such as spatial distributions of vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy were obtained with the constructed system.

  • Experimental analyses on the Hydroelastic Flow-Structure Interactions on pulsed impinged jet is measured with the FSIMS(Flow-Structure Interaction Measurement System. The nozzle diameter is D=15mm and two major experiments have been carried out for the cases of the distance between the nozzle tip to the elastic wall is 6.0. The pulsed jets were controlled by a solenoid valve and were impinged onto an elastic plate (material: silicon, diameter: 350mm, thickness: 0.5mm, hardness: 15). The Reynolds numbers were 20,000 and 24,000 when the jets were impinged with the volume velocities. The results showed that the elastic plate moved slightly to the opposite direction of the jet direction at the time of valve opening. It has been shown that the vortices travelling over the surface of the wall made the elastic wall distorted locally due to a vector forces between rotating forces of the vortex and a newly-incoming flow.

  • A new stereoscopic PTV was developed using two CCD cameras, stereoscopic photogrammetry based on a 3D-PTV principle. The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The calibration of cameras and the pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The constructed Stereoscopic W technique was tested on the standard images of the impinged jet proposed by VSJ. The results on the turbulent properties of the jet obtained by the constructed system showed a good agreement with the original LES data.

  • A 4D-PTV system was constructed. The measurement system consists of three high-speed high-definition cameras(1k x 1k, 2000fps), Nd-Yag laser(2000Hz) and a host computer. The GA-3D-PTV algorithm was used for completing the measurement system. The 4D-PTV is capable of probing the spatial distribution of velocity vectors of the flow field overcoming the temporal resolution of the characteristic turbulence length scales of the measured flow fields. A horizontal impinged jet flow (H/D=7) was measured. The Reynolds number is about 33,000. Spatial temporal evolution of the jet flow was examined and physical properties such as spatial distributions of vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy were obtained with the constructed.

  • The performances of the newly constructed Stereoscopic PTV and Stereoscopic PIV which had been completed based on a 3D-PTV principle are tested using the Standard Images. Virtual images were produced for the benchmark tests of the constructed two Stereoscopic techniques. The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The calibration of cameras and the pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The Standard data of LES are on the impinged jet proposed by VSJ. It is shown that the results obtained by Stereoscopic PTV have better reliability than those by Stereoscopic PTV.

  • Flow and noise analyses are conducted for examining a new design concept of impinging jet electronics cooling, and the analysis results are compared with conventional electronics cooling techniques. For the application of impinging jet electronics cooling method, the present study considers the air duct where air is supplied by axial fan and air flow from the duct is impinged vertically onto the electronic component heat source. Applying CFD simulation technique and fan noise model to the present cooling scheme, the cooling performance of the impinging jet as well as the operation condition and the noise characteristics of fan are investigated for various impinging jet nozzle conditions and fan models. Furthermore, the impinging jet electronics cooling analysis results are compared with the conventional parallel-flow cooling scheme to give the design concept and criteria of impinging jet cooling method.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate a critical heat flux(CHF) during forced convective subcooled and saturated boiling in free water jet system impinged on a rectangular heated surface. The surface is supplied with subcooled or saturated water through a rectangular jet. Experimental parameters studied are a width of heated surface, a height of supplementary water and a degree of subcooling. Incipient boiling point is observed in the temperature of 6${\~}8^{\circ}C$ of superheat of test specimen. CHF depends on jet velocity for various boiling-involved coolant system. CHF also is proportional to the nozzle exit velocity to the power of n, where n is 0.55 and 0.8 for subcooled and saturated boiling, respectively. CHF is enhanced with a higher jet velocity, higher degree of subcooling and smaller width of a heated surface.
