  • This is an exploratory study on facilitators, impediments and their priorities of firm innovation activities regarding the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This study adopted an inductive method to explore the properties and contents of the facilitators and impediments. 10 main factors and 30 sub-factors (15 facilitators, 15 impediments) were extracted through the Delphi survey. The highest priority goes to the factor of executive-level officers' minds and future strategies. By examining the properties and contents of 15 facilitators and 15 impediments of innovation activities, this study notices that the most factors are related to the prior stage of innovation. It indicates that each firms' innovation activities regarding the Fourth Industrial Revolution is not about the managing problems in (or of) innovation process, but closely associated with the degree of whether they are willing to be engaged with their innovation activities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, this study proposes that the relationship between each firms' innovation activities on existing market/business and the new market/business regarding the Fourth Industrial Revolution can be predicted as a dynamic reverse one. 15 facilitators and 15 impediments can influence two types of innovation activities. Finally, this study suggests that through priorities of facilitators and impediments, leadership and future strategies, culture and organization, and (human) resource acquisition are the prioritized areas for a further study of innovation activities.

  • Over the past two decades, smart cities have been attracting attention as a means of solving urban problems and as a model for securing urban sustainability. Many studies have been conducted in various fields such as conceptual definitions, classification, new technologies, case analysis, and civic participation of smart cities. In particular, applicable technologies and their importance have been highlighted so far. However, since a city is a complex and meta-systematic space, it is the overly optimistic prospect that technology, one of the smart city components, will lead to successful smart cities. This study elucidates the impediments to driving smart cities as a case study of South Korea, a leading country in smart technology and digital transformation. We examined three comprehensive national plans for promoting smart cities and conducted focus group interviews with experts in smart cities to analyze the obstacles to carrying smart cities. We classified the thirteen impediments into technological, industrial, governmental, and social factors as a result. Some of them are generic issues in policy establishment and enforcement, while others are specific to smart cities.

  • The era of information technologies has stimulated the demand of educational reform based on the use of information and communication technology (ICT). It requires explicit guidelines, vibrant objectives, mobilization of resources and political commitment at all levels of the country to achieve the desired results. However, change is not easy, it requires to overcome the impediments that hinder the successful integration of ICT in public schools. The pace of this reform is active in developed countries, while developing countries are lagging behind in achieving the required goals. The foremost purpose of this study is to highlight the barriers in the effective integration of ICT faced by developed countries in general and developing countries in particular. Reviewing the impediments to the integration of ICT in public schools may assist educators to become technology adopters in the future. Findings of the study reveal that intrinsic barriers are easy to surmount; once extrinsic barriers have been subdued successfully.

  • The family of lemnacae colloquially known as duckweed contains the world' smallest species of flowering plants (macrophytes). Aquatic and free-floating, their most striking qualities are a capacity for explosive reproduction and an almost complete lack of fibrous material. They are widely used for reducing chemical loading in facultative sewage lagoons, but their greatest potential lies in their ability to produce large quantities of protein rich biomass, suitable for feeding to a wide range of animals, including fish, poultry and cattle. Despite these qualities there are numerous impediments to these plants being incorporated into western farming systems. Large genetically determined variations in growth in response to nutrients and climate, apparent anti-nutritional factors, concerns about sequestration of heavy metals and possible transference of pathogens raise questions about the safety and usefulness of these plants. A clear understanding of how to address and overcome these impediments needs to be developed before duckweed is widely accepted for nutrient reclamation and as a source of animal feed.

  • According to the increase in number of persons who have physical impediments in this country, the importance on the convenient facility for physically disabled persons is gradually being extended as well. This thesis is focused on the small scale interior design plan for the disabled persons in diminutive symptoms among several kinds of congenital or postnatal impediments. Just like the other disabled persons, the public convenient facility or special space is not required, but I have reviewed the matters to have to be improved and the present residing shape of the disabled persons under the diminutive symptoms in order to provide the interior design available for the joint uses together by and between non-handicapped and handicapped persons as such undersized persons have recently been differentiated together with handicapped persons within the small scale house space.

  • Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting medication adherence and to develop an explanatory model for medication adherence in elders with chronic disease. Method: Empirical data were collected from 312 older adults with chronic disease and the data collect period was from August 8 to 31, 2011, and were analyzed using SPSS for Windows 19.0 program and confirmatory factor analysis with the structural equation model (SEM) procedure performed with AMOS 19.0 program. Results: Results of this study showed that perceived self-efficacy was the strongest factor influencing medication adherence, and it affected also outcome expectations positively but impediments were negatively influenced by self-efficacy. Outcome expectations and impediments subsequently acted on medication adherence with the same relationship as self-efficacy. In additional results, self-efficacy and medication adherence were further significantly affected by the factors; social support, medication knowledge, and depression. Conclusion: These results show that nursing interventions to promote medication adherence in this population should focus on self-efficacy promotion including social support, education for delivery of medication knowledge, and reduction in depression.

  • The development of digital technologies and the appearance of computers have brought inevitable changes on the conventional printing publishing system and forms of books. An electronic book has marked its birth, sending out the contents of a book in digital and not using paper books but tile exclusive terminal. As far as systems are concerned, reading and publishing are going the separate ways is kind of impediments should be overcome by introducing the on-line order and sales service and constituting a network interworking service which delivers digital book contents on-line. This paper concerned the book publishing mode which would help to overcome the impediments. The last system is the one with broadcasting and communication as well as computers and the Internet mixed in a very complex way.

  • In this study, users' perceptions and concerns about digital information resources were investigated, focusing on impediments to the use of digital resources, to devise measures for improvement by identifying factors that hinder the use of digital information resources. To achieve the purpose of the study, the research identifies the inconvenien ce factors and establishes the user inconvenience list based on prior research and the current status survey. Based on the derived list, a survey was conducted on users of public libraries. Through this study, it was found that the use of digital information resources can be enhanced by improving the internal library system. Specifically, it refers to improving search performance and accessibility of digital data, providing one-stop services for digital information resources through the operation of an integrated data management system, conducting customized user education, and establishing a digital information resource preservation system, e.g. web archiving. Also, improving the external environment and system, such as contracting with more libraries for digitized data use agreements, strengthening support, unifying the names and classifications of digital information resources, and simplifying the procedure for using digital information resources, is of great importance.

  • Simulation is one of the most widely used techniques in operations research and management science, and by all indications its popularity is on the increase. There have been several impediments to its even wider acceptance and usefulness. This paper presents a simulation study for evaluating lane operation and determining parking space for customers in a supermarket using a SLAM network simulation model. The results for the simulation are analyzed using statistical methods.
