First of all, we express our deepest sympathies for the passing of Professor Su-Moon Park. In the present paper, an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which Professor Su-Moon Park also used frequently for the investigation of electroconducting polymer, is introduced as a recent evaluation tool for a commercially available lithium-ion battery (LIB). The paper surveys how to design equivalent circuits while explaining physical and chemical phenomena in the LIB and how to get more accurate impedance spectra with varying the measuring temperatures. Additionally, a square current EIS (SC-EIS) technique, which we have suggested, is introduced for the larger LIB system as a promising technique for the future.

The Cu(radius ra = $95{\mu}m$)/$Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$(outer radius $r_b$ = $120{\mu}m$) core/shell composite wire is fabricated by electrodeposition. The two diagonal components of impedance tensor for the Cu/$Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$ core/shell composite wire in cylindrical coordinates, $Z_{zz}$ and $Z_{{\theta}{\theta}}$, are measured as a function of frequency in 10 kHz~10 MHz and external static magnetic field in 0 Oe~200 Oe. The equations expressing the diagonal $Z_{zz}$ and $Z_{{\theta}{\theta}}$ in terms of diagonal components of complex permeability tensor, ${\mu}^*_{zz}$ and ${\mu}^*_{{\theta}{\theta}}$, are derived from Maxwell's equations. The real and imaginary parts of ${\mu}^*_{zz}$(f) and ${\mu}^*_{{\theta}{\theta}}$(f) spectra are extracted from the measured $Z_{zz}$(f) and $Z_{{\theta}{\theta}}$(f) spectra, respectively. It is presened that the extraction of ${\mu}^*_{zz}$(f) and ${\mu}^*_{{\theta}{\theta}}$(f) spectra from the diagonal impedance spectra can be a versatile tool to investigate dymanic magnetization process in the core/shell composite wire.
La modified lead zirconate titanate ceramics (Pb0.92La0.08)(Zr0.95Ti0.05)O3 = PLZT-8/95/5 were prepared using the conventional solid state reaction method in order to investigate the complex impedance characteristics of the PLZT-8/95/5 ceramic according to temperature. The complex impedance in the PLZT-8/95/5 ceramic was measured over a temperature range of 30~550 ℃ at several frequencies. The complex dielectric constant anomaly of the phase transition was observed near TU1 = 179 ℃ and TU2 = 230 ℃. A remarkable diffuse dielectric constant anomalous behaviour of the complex dielectric constant was found between 100 ℃ and 550 ℃. The complex impedance spectra below and above TU1 and TU2 were fitted by the superposition of two Cole-Cole types of impedance relaxations. The fast component in the higher frequency region may be due to ion migration in the bulk, and the slow component in the lower frequency region is interpreted to be the formation and migration of ions at the grain boundary or electrode/crystal interfacial polarization.
A composite cathode of LSCF$(La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_3)\;and\;GDC\; (Gd_2O_3-doped\;CeO_2:Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{1.95_})$ was characterized in terms of an electrode response, using a point contact in an Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte incorporated into AC two-point impedance spectroscopy. The point-contacted configuration amplifies the responses occurring near the YSZ/cathode interface through the aligned point contact on the planar LSCF/GDC electrode. The point contact interface increases the bulk resistance allowing the estimation of the point contact geometry and resolving the electrode-related responses. The resultant impedance spectra are analyzed through an equivalent circuit model constructed by resistors and constant phase elements. The bulk responses can be resolved from the electrode-related portions in terms of spreading resistance. The electrode-related polarizations are measured in terms of temperature and oxygen partial pressure. The modified impedance spectroscopy is discussed in terms of methodology and analytical aspects, toward resolving the electrode-polarization issues in solid oxide fuel cells.
The passivation (or deactivation) of a metal surface during oxide film formation has been quantitatively explored for a ferritic stainless steel by using dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (DEIS). For this purpose, the electrochemical impedance spectra were carefully examined as a function of applied potential in the active nose region of the potentiodynamic polarization curve, to separate the charge transfer resistance and oxide film resistance. From the discrepancy in the potential dependence between the experimental charge transfer resistance and the semi-empirically expected one, the degree of passivation could be quantitatively estimated. The sensitivity of passivation of the steel surface to anodic potential, which might be the measure of the quality of the oxide film formed under unit driving force or over-potential, decreased by 31% when 3.5 wt% NaCl was added to a 5 wt% $H_2SO_4$ solution.

The presence of the conduction interface in epitaxial $LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3$ thin films has opened up challenging applications which can be expanded to next-generation nano-electronics. The metallic conduction path is associated with two adjacent insulating materials. Such device structure is applicable to frequency-dependent impedance spectroscopy. Impedance spectroscopy allows for simultaneous measurement of resistivity and dielectric constants, systematic identification of the underlying electrical origins, and the estimation of the electrical homogeneity in the corresponding electrical origins. Such unique capability is combined with the intentional control on the interface composition composed of $SrTiO_3$ and $CaTiO_3$, which can be denoted by $SrxCa1-_xTiO_3$. The underlying $Sr_xCa1-_xTiO_3$ interface was deposited using pulsed-laser deposition, followed by the epitaxial $LaAlO_3$ thin films. The platinum electrodes were constructed using metal shadow masks, in order to accommodate 2-point electrode configuration. Impedance spectroscopy was performed as the function of the relative ratio of Sr to Ca. The respective impedance spectra were analyzed in terms of the equivalent circuit models. Furthermore, the impedance spectra were monitored as a function of temperature. The ac-based characterization in the 2-dimensional conduction path supplements the dc-based electrical analysis. The artificial manipulation of the interface composition will be discussed towards the electrical application of 2-dimensional materials to the semiconductor devices in replacement for the current Si-based devices.
Nonlinear parameterization of OLED device from measurements of bias dependence of impedance spectra and parameter extraction using Levenberg-Marquardt complex nonlinear least square regression algorithm based on resistor-capacitor equivalent circuit model enables computer simulation of OLED power driving characteristics in forms of square-wave or sinusoidal output signal at arbitrary conditions. We introduce developed OLED power driving simulation software and discuss transient responses in voltage-or current-controlled operations as well as nonlinear characteristics of OLED, by presenting both the simulation and experimental results. This OLED simulation technique using impedance spectroscopy is extremely useful in predicting performance of the nonlinear device, especially in time-domain analysis of device operation.
The electrochemical impedance spectra of polyaniline film prepared by cyclic voltammetry have been investigated in 0.1 M aqueous sulfuric acid solution. Charge transfer resistances were rather low at the oxidized states in agreement with the conductive behavior reported at these potentials. The corresponding exchange current densities were very high. Large values of capacitance associated with the polymer have been found which vary as a function of the electrode potentials. An equivalent electrical circuit has been deduced from the impedance data. It was therefore possible to obtain the parameters of the ionic mass transport within the film.
Thin films of polyaniline (PANI) salts were in situ deposited on a Pt plate during either chemical polymerization or electrochemical polymerization. The oxidation states of the salt films were controlled by the applied DC potential. AC impedance of the Pt/PANI electrode were measured in monomer-free 1 N HCl solution in order to investigate the electrodic properties of the films at the following applied DC potentials: 0, 0.45 and 0.75 V vs. SCE. Very small differences in film conductivity according to its oxidation state were observed by analysis of the impedance spectra, the reasons of which are complicated by enriched water content in the film and possible decrease in the film thickness during the measurements. The electrochemical activity of the film/solution interface varied with its oxidation state. Stability of the film in 1 N HCl solution was also evaluated by impedance and cyclic voltammetry measurements.
Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCN) were integrated in $TiO_2$ film and the beneficial influence on the dyesensitized solar cells in terms of improved photocurrent was studied in the light of static J-V characteristics obtained both under illumination and in the dark, photocurrent transients, IPCE spectra and impedance spectra. Compared with a solar cell without SWCN, it is established that the photocurrent density of the modified cell increases at all applied potentials. The enhanced photocurrent density is correlated with the augmented concentration of electrons in the conduction band of $TiO_2$ and with increased electrical conductivity. Explanations are additionally corroborated with the help of SEM, Raman spectra and dye-desorption measurements.
