The transient sound radiation from the impact between a steel ball and a thick plate is analyzed theoretically and compared with experiment results. The derivation process itself is difficult to analyze sound radiation characteristics theoretically for a thick plate with some resonances but may be investigated from measured data. During mechanical impacts, arbitrary driving point importance for an elastic system enables to predict by using mechanical importance method. In order to obtain approximate solution for an impact model testing, the surface Helmholtz integral formulation based on the integral expression for pressure in the field in terms of surface pressure and normal velocity is used as a basis. A simple expression is developed for an impulsive response function, which is time dependent velocity potential and pressure for an impact may then be computed by a convolution of exciting force. In estimating of elastic-acoustical correlation problems, mechanical inertance, overall transfer function and radiation resistance obtained by signal processing techniques are used. The usefulness is confirmed by applying these methods prediction of arbitray driving pint inertance, radiated sound pressure and exciting force.
The effects of boundary conditions on vibration characteristics for the ring stiffered composite cylindrical shells are investigated by theoretical and experimental method. In the theoretical procedure, the Love's thin shell theory combined with the discrete stiffener theory to consider the ring stiffening effect are adopted to derive the frequency equation. In experiment, the impact exciting method is used to obtain the vibraton results. Five different boundary conditions: clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported, free-free, clamped-free, clamped-simply supported are considered in this study.

In this paper, the hybrid method to identify the exciting forces and radiated noise generated from the reciprocating compressor was presented. In order to identify the exciting force, both the acceleration data measured at the compressor shell and numerical finite element model for the full set of compressor were used simultaneously. Applying the identified exciting forces to the numerical model, the velocity responses of all nodes at the shell were predicted. Finally the radiated noises from the vibrating shell were predicted by using the direct boundary element acoustic analysis. For precise numerical modeling, the stiffness of rubber mounts and body springs were identified experimentally from the natural frequencies measured by impact testing. The error of over-all sound pressure level between predicted noise and measured noise was about 2.9 dB.
The prediction of vibration response of floor is necessary in order to check whether the floor vibration level will satisfy the allowable vibration standard of precise machinery such as electronic microscopes in semiconductor manufacturing plant before the installation of various neighboring equipment facility. In conventional vibration isolation, we were mainly interested in minimization of vibration transmissibility and stabilization of vibration isolation system. But in order to predict vibration response of floor, it is necessary to know exciting force of equipment installed on the floor and the mobility of the floor. We measured the exciting force of the dropped mass assumed as equipment and the mobility of some practical building floor using large impact hammer. And from this we predicted the vibration response of floor on which the mass dropped. This predicted vibration response of floor is compared with measured vibration response. Through upper procedure, we examined the possibility of predicting vibration response of floor from the information of exciting force of equipment and the mobility of floor.

A robust damage detection method using short-time Fourier transform and beating phenomena is presented as an estimating tool of the healthiness of large structures. The present technique makes use of beating phenomena that manifest themselves when two signals of similar frequencies are added or subtracted. Unlike most existing methods based on vibration signals, the present approach does not require an analytic model for target structures. Furthermore, the main advantage of the proposed method compared to the competing diagnostic method using vibration data is its robustness. The proposed method is not affected by the amplitude of exciting signals and the location of exciting points. From a measuring view point. the location of sensing point have no influence on the performance of the present method. With a view to verifying the effectiveness of this method. a series of experiments are made and the results show its possibility as a robust damage diagnostic method.

The vibration on building structures due to exciting vibration forces has been studied only for the vibration level on existing buildings. Recently, several researches have been performed on the prediction of vertical vibration on structures by using an analytical method. However, these studies have been focused on mainly the vibration analysis through analytical modeling of structures. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer in terms of the directions of transfer(upward transfer and downward transfer) on the shear wall building structures due to 2 type vibration forces. In order to examine the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer, the mode analysis and the impact experiment were conducted several times on one building structure. The results of this study suggest that the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer are different in terms of the directions of transfer.

In the case of a precision equipment, it requires a vibration free environment to provide its proper function. Especially, lithography and inspection devices, which have sub-nanometer class high accuracy and resolution, have come to necessity for producing more improved giga class semiconductor wafers. This high technology equipments require very strict environmental vibration standard in proportion to the accuracy of the manufacturing, inspecting devices. The vibration criteria are usually obtained either by the real vibration exciting test on the equipment or by the analytical calculation. the former is accurate but requires a great deal of time and efforts while the latter lacks reliability. this paper proposes a new method to solve this problem at a time. the permissible vibration level to a precision equipment can be easily obtained by analyzing a process of Frequency Response Function. This paper also demonstrates its effectiveness by applying the proposed method to finding the vibration criteria of a Computer Hard Disk Drive by impact Test.

Mode Synthesis Method is applied to analyize the vibration characteristics of the press machine sold at present. Vibration analysis of the machine has not been done thoroughly as far, because of its complicated structure and much bigger unlinearity of its vibration characteristics. The press was disassembled by parts, and it was experimented by the exciting techniques and curve fitting methods, and analyzed by the Mode Synthesis Method. The 2 results were showed good agreements at each part. We confirming it, the machine was assembled, and experimented and analyzed by the same method. Also good agreements between 2 methods were obtained. In addition, impact responses of the actual moving press were agreed with the analyzed values by the Mode Synthesis Method. And we found that the first bending mode of the slide was ruling the vibration characteristics of the press.
As the speed of high speed train increases, the prediction of ride comfort becomes important. The exciting frequencies due to rail irregularity in high-speed train closes to the second and third natural frequencies of the carbody. The dynamic characteristics of railway vehicles should be checked by modal analysis numerically and experimentally. In this study the bending test for railway vehicle is reviewed and the impact test is suggested to find the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the carbody. The validity of the impact test is checked with the test for a sample plate which reflects the aspect ratio of the original carbody. The bending test by the impact and the displacement methods of JIS E7105 for a prototype carbody were done in the field and compared. The results show that the impact test can find more accurate natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the carbody than those of the displacement method.
