UV laser micromachining of metallic materials has been used in microelectronic and other industries. This paper shows on experimental investigation of micromachining of copper using a 355nm UV laser with 50ns pulse duration. A finite element model with high strain rate effect is especially suggested to investigate the phenomena which are only dominated by mechanically pressure impact in disregard of thermally heat transfer. In order to consider the strain rate effect, Cowper-Symonds model was used. To analyze the dynamic deformation during a very short processing time, which is nearly about several tens nanoseconds, a commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code, LS-DYNA 3D, was employed for the computational simulation of the UV laser micro machining behavior for thin copper material. From these computational results, depth of the dent (from one to six pulsed) were observed and compared with previous experimental results. This will help us to understand interaction between UV laser beam and material.
The pile group foundation is widely used for gravity pier of high-speed railway bridges in China. If a moderate or strong earthquake occurs, the pile-surrounding soil will exhibit obvious nonlinearity and significant pile group effect. In this study, an improved pushover analysis model for the pile group foundation with consideration of pile group effect is presented and validated by the quasi-static test. The improved model uses simplified springs to simulate the soil lateral resistance, side friction and tip resistance. PM (axial load-bending moment) plastic hinge model is introduced to simulate the impact of the axial force changing of pile group on their elastic-plastic characteristics. The pile group effect is considered in stress-stain relations of the lateral soil resistance with a reduction factor. The influence factors on nonlinear characteristics and plastic hinge distribution of the pile group foundation are discussed, including the pier height, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and stirrup ratio of the pile, and soil mechanical parameters. Furthermore, the displacement ductility factor, resistance increase factor and yielding stiffness ratio are provided to evaluate the seismic performance of soil-pile system. A case study for the pile group foundation of a railway simply supported beam bridge with a 32 m-span is conducted by numerical analysis. It is shown that the ultimate lateral force of pile group is not determined by the yielding force of the single one in these piles. Therefore, the pile group effect is essential for the seismic performance evaluation of the railway bridge with pile group foundation.

Dynamic response of steel plate girder bridges by KL-510 design truck in KHBDC considering the road surface roughness of bridges and bridge-vehicle interaction is investigated. Simply supported steel plate girder bridges with span length of 20m, 30m, and 40m from "Standard Highway Bridge Superstructure" published by the Korean Ministry of Construction are used for a bridge model, and ten sets of the road surface roughness of bridge deck are generated from power spectral density (PSD) function by assuming the roadway as "Average Road". A three dimensionally modeled 5-axle tractor-trailer with its gross weight, which is the same as that of KL-510 design truck, is used for dynamic analysis. For the finite element modeling of superstructure, beam element for the main girder, shell element for the concrete deck, and rigid link between main girder and concrete deck are used. Impact factor and DLA of steel plate girder bridges for different span are calculated by the proposed numerical analysis model and compared with those specified by several bridge codes.

Objective: Cervical stabilization exercises are frequently to improve strength and endurance of cervical muscles. The purpose of this study was to identify changes in head repositioning accuracy (HRA) and neck proprioception through cervical stabilization exercises in healthy adults. Design: One group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Thirteen participants with no previous history of neck pain or injury to the cervical spine were recruited. HRA was measured by equipment including laser pointer, helmet, eye patch and marking pens. The distance between the spot where the beam had stopped and the center of the graph paper was measured three times with the averaged value used as the head repositioning accuracy. Neck proprioception was measured by a cervical range of motion device (CROM). Subjects wore the CROM tester and were to look straight ahead while bending his/her neck. Subjects were instructed to perform extension, lateral flexion and rotation, and the values were then measured and recorded. The measurements were performed pre-intervention, and after cervical stabilization exercise. Results: There was no significant difference on HRA after intervention. In addition, there was no significant difference on neck proprioception compared with pre-intervention. Conclusions: The present study did not identify any effect on HRA and neck proprioception of cervical stabilization exercise. Further investigations are required to elucidate this in old aged participants and patients with neck pain.
Two data sets of repeated hydrographic surveys with a single beam echo-sounder were obtained to investigate morphological changes on a sand mining site within EEZ near the Eocheong Islands, West Sea of Korea. Their accuracies of depth measurement, estimated from the crossover analysis, correspond to the Oder 2 of IHO standards. Bathymetric maps show a feature of 300m wide and 10m deep hollow, whose evolution can be seen in difference grids of the two bathymetric maps. However, data of higher accuracy and resolution enable precise quantification of extracted sand volume. Since this morphological change could affect sedimentary environment as well as benthic ecology, environmental impact assessment based on scientific research data is required for management and sustainable development of limited sand resource.

This paper presents a built-in current sensor(BICS) that detects defects in CMOS integrated circuits using the current testing technique. This circuit employs a cross-coupled connected PMOS transistors, it is used as a current comparator. The proposed circuit has a negligible impact on the performance of the circuit under test (CUT) and high speed detection time. In addition, in the operation of the normal mode, the BlCS does not have dissipation of extra power, and it can be applied to the deep submicron process. The validity and effectiveness are verified through the HSPICE simulation on circuits with defects. The area overhead of a BlCS versus the entire chip is about 9.2%. The chip was fabricated with Hynix $0.35{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal N-well CMOS standard technology.
A full nonlinear finite element P185/70Rl4 passenger car radial-ply tire model was developed and run on a 1.7-meter-diameter spinning test drum/cleat model at a constant speed of 50 km/h in order to investigate the tire transient response characteristics, i.e. the tire in-plane free vibration modes transmissibility. The virtual tire/drum finite element model was constructed and tested using the nonlinear finite element analysis software, PAM-SHOCK, a nonlinear finite element analysis code. The tire model was constructed in extreme detail with three-dimensional solid, layered membrane, and beam finite elements, incorporating over 18,000 nodes and 24 different types of materials. The reaction forces of the tire axle in vertical (Z axis) and longitudinal (X axis) directions were recorded when the tire rolled over a cleat on the drum, and then the FFT algorithm was applied to examine the transient response information in the frequency domain. The result showed that this PI 85/70Rl4 tire has clear peaks of 84 and 45 Hz transmissibility in the vertical and longitudinal directions. This result was validated against more than 10 previous studies by either theoretical or experimental approaches and showed excellent agreement. The tire's post-impact response was also investigated to verify the numerical convergence and computational stability of this FEA tire model and simulation strategy, the extraordinarily stable scenario was confirmed. The tire in-plane free vibration modes transmissibility was successfully detected. This approach was never before attempted in investigations of tire in-plane free vibration modes transmission phenomena; this work is believed to be the first of its kind.

This study focused on the roll motion characteristics of a two-dimensional (2D) rectangular floating structure under regular beam sea conditions. An experiment was conducted in a 2D wave tank for a roll free decay test in calm water and the roll motion in a range of regular waves with and without heave motion to investigate the motion response and heave influence on the roll motion. A numerical study was carried out using Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes (RANS)-based CFD simulations. A grid convergence test was conducted to accurately capture the wave condition on the free surface based on the overset mesh and wave forcing method. It was found in the roll free decay test that the numerical results agreed well with the experimental results for the natural roll period and roll damping coefficient. It was also observed that the heave motion had an impact on the roll motion, and the responses of the heave and roll motion from the CFD simulations were in reasonable agreement with those from the experiment.

SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) is often used for ship construction or welding pressure vessels and involves spraying a flux in a powder form to a welding site to a certain thickness and continuously supplying electrode wires therein. This welding method enables high current welding up to 1,500 to 3,000 A. Arc efficiency is higher than 95% and the technique allows clean work as it creates less welding fume, which is composed of fine metal oxide particles, and the arc beam is not exposed. In this study, SM490C-TMC thick plates were heterogeneously welded by SAW. Mechanical properties of welds were measured, and welds were assessed macroscopically and for adhering magnetic particles. The following conclusions were drawn. Bending tests showed no spots exploded on sample surfaces or any other defect, and plastic deformation testing confirmed sufficient weld toughness. These results showed the 1F welding method has no shortcomings in terms of bending performance.

While indoor vehicle navigation is an essential component in large-scale parking garages of major cities, technical limitations and challenging propagation environments considerably degrade the accuracy of existing localization techniques. This paper proposes a proximity detection scheme using low-cost beacons where a handheld mobile device within a moving vehicle autonomously detects its approximate position and moving direction by only observing Received Signal Strength (RSS) values of beacon signals. The proposed approach essentially exploits the differential RSS technique of multi-directional beams to reduce the impact of the environment, vehicle, and mobile device. A low-cost multi-directional beacon prototype is developed using Bluetooth technology. The localization performance is evaluated using 96 beacons in an underground parking garage within an area of 394.8m×304.3m. Experimental results show that the 90th percentile of the average proximity detection error is 0.8m. Furthermore, our proposed scheme provides robust proximity detection performance with various vehicles and mobile devices.
