In the medical field, X-rays are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and the use of X-rays continues to increase with the development of imaging technology, but X-rays have the disadvantage of radiation exposure. Although lead protection tools are used in clinical practice to protect against radiation exposure, lead is classified as a heavy metal and can cause harmful reactions such as lead poisoning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of the shield fabricated using materials of FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer. In order to confirm the filament's line attenuation factor, phantoms were fabricated using PLA, XT-CF20, Wood, Glow and Brass, and CT scan was performed. And the shielding sheet of 100 × 100 × 2 mm size was modeled, the dose and shielding rate was measured by using a diagnostic X-ray generator and irradiation dose meter, and the shielding rate with lead protection tools. As a result of the experiment, the CT number of the brass was measured to be the highest, and the shielding sheet was manufactured by using the brass. As a result of confirming with the diagnostic X-ray generator, the shielding rate was increased in the shielding sheet having a thickness of 6 mm upon X-ray irradiation under the condition of 100 kV and 40 mAs. It measured by 90% or more, and confirmed that the shielding rate is higher than apron 0.25 mmPb. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the shield fabricated by 3D printing technology showed high shielding rate in the diagnostic X-ray region. there was.
Bubbles are generated by the boiling of the cooling water when an accident occurs in the reactor and then in order to measure the void fraction, the Optical Fiber Probe(OFP) and optical camera are used in thermal hydraulic safety research. However, such an optical method is not suitable for measuring the void fraction in a $17{\times}17$ array of fuel rods due to the geometrical limitations. This study was conducted as a preliminary study using x-ray system and various phantoms before applying to rod bundles. Through radiographic and tomographic experiments, the tube voltage of the x-ray generator was 130 kVp and the tube current was 1 mA. In addition, it is possible to measure the hole of 1mm in size visually through the bubble resolution phantom, and it is confirmed that the contrast is relatively decreased in the inside of the freon in the case of the contrast evaluation using the road phantom. However, we could obtain good image without distortion when reconstructing the image. Bubble generation phantom experiments were used to confirm the flow direction of the bubbles and to acquire tomography images. The image J tool was used to measure the void fraction of 18 % for a single tomography image. This study has carried out previous researches for the measurement of the bubble rate around the nuclear fuel and could be used as a basic research for continuous research.

The objective of study was to investigate the optimal echo phase for mouse brain enhancement scan using fast low angle shot (FLASH) sequence of 9.4T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For quantification based on this method, an MR phantom experiment and clinical research were done. The phantom experiment was conducted by fabricating three phantoms with different molar concentration of gadolinium to create changes in echo phase of 9.4T FLASH sequence used in mouse brain scans. In the phantom experiment, SSI was 25~27 [arbitrary units, a.u.] in each of 33 phases from $6{\pi}$ to $28{\pi}$, while RSP was 30~100 mmol. MPSI was 47~52 [a.u], while MPP, where MPSI is seen, was 0.8~9 mmol. EPMS was 80.8~108.0%, while ASIMP was formed between 21.1 and 31.8 [a.u]. In the clinical research, Finally, the occurrence rate of artifact that expressed -1 nd +1. The present study was able to quantify the degree of enhancement at FLASH sequence of 9.4T MRI, as well as identify the optimal echo phase during mouse brain enhancement scan.

Combined MRI and Relaxogram approach was introduced as a very useful tool for fat study. The phantoms simulating homogeneous mixture of fat and non-fat environments were measured with spin echo pulse sequence on a 0.15 T whole body imager. From 45 scans, the Tl values were obtained by fitting the data to continuous distribution (CONTIN) of relaxation time. This relaxogram gives broad distributions of relaxation time, which are characterized by a number of peaks with characteristic T1 values. Two distinct peaks in relaxogram were observed and identified as signals from com oil and gelatin gel. This model system can be served as simulating the distribution of fat in muscle. Also the relative ratio of two components, which is proportional to the area under the peak, is estimated and compared to nominal values. Based on the good agreement between two predictions, the values from our proposed method agreed with nominal values within $\pm$7 % error. The effects of different concentration of contrast agent and different region of interest are presented. To optimize total scan times, the minimum required data points and so further reduction in total scan times are discussed.
The automated dental cavity detection program for a new concept intra-oral dental x-ray imaging device, an auxiliary diagnosis system, which is able to assist a dentist to identify dental caries in an early stage and to make an accurate diagnosis, was to be developed. The primary theory of the automatic dental cavity detection program is divided into two algorithms; one is an image segmentation skill to discriminate between a dental cavity and a normal tooth and the other is a computational method to analyze feature of an tooth image and take an advantage of it for detection of dental cavities. In the present study, it is, first, evaluated how accurately the DRLSE (Direct Regularized Level Set Evolution) method extracts demarcation surrounding the dental cavity. In order to evaluate the ability of the developed algorithm to automatically detect dental cavities, 7 tooth phantoms from incisor to molar were fabricated which contained a various form of cavities. Then, dental cavities in the tooth phantom images were analyzed with the developed algorithm. Except for two cavities whose contours were identified partially, the contours of 12 cavities were correctly discriminated by the automated dental caries detection program, which, consequently, proved the practical feasibility of the automatic dental lesion detection algorithm. However, an efficient and enhanced algorithm is required for its application to the actual dental diagnosis since shapes or conditions of the dental caries are different between individuals and complicated. In the future, the automatic dental cavity detection system will be improved adding pattern recognition or machine learning based algorithm which can deal with information of tooth status.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of increasing the amount of 3D volume imaging on the hand, knee, and foot human phantom in CT, After analyzing the data, three - dimensional volumetric images were implemented using MMWP program to evaluate reproducibility. First, the data amount of three human phantoms according to each increment was analyzed. Secondly, the reproducibility evaluation and the measured length were compared. As a result of analyzing the amount of image data for each phantom according to the increment, it was confirmed that the amount of data is reduced to about 1/10 when the increment is set to 1.0 mm as compared with the case where the increment is set to 0.1 mm. In the evaluation of the feasibility, gap was generated from 0.7mm for hand phantom, 0.6mm for knee phantom and foot phantom, and it was confirmed that even when the actual phantom and actual length were compared, the length was much different and the implementation was lowered. As the increment is closer to 1.0mm, the number of images is small and the 3D implementation time is small. Therefore, it is best to determine the increase before the gap of the image is generated and to apply the Increment for preoperative diagnosis. We hope that this study will be an indicator of the accurate increment setting when implementing 3D image through VRT Rendering after CT scan.
The purpose of this study was to analyze fabrics suitable for use as examination gowns to determine whether examination gowns affect imaging during anterior to posterior chest examinations(Chest AP) on a digital X-ray system. Examination gowns in use at five medical centers in Seoul were collected and included modal, tencel, cotton, and rayon fabrics. The selection of fabrics was based on studies that reported fabrics with good tactile, absorbent, stretchable, and wrinkle resistance. Phantoms of five hospital gowns and four fabrics, arranged in overlapping layers from one to eight, were created and examined on a digital X-ray system in both Chest AP examination. The images examined were subjected to a first-step profile analysis, a second-step signal intensity averaging analysis, and a third-step microscopic analysis. The results showed that all nine materials had an increasing impact on the image as the number of layers of fabric increased, with the modal fabric having the least impact on the image in the first, second, and third analyses. In conclusion, as the resolution of digital x-ray systems increases, the impact of examination clothing on the image will increase, and research to find suitable materials for examination clothing will continue to be necessary.
Consecutive brain 〔Tc-99m〕ECD SPECT studies before and after acetazolamide (Diamox) administration have been performed with patients for the evaluation of cerebrovascular hemodynamic reserve. However, the quantitaitve potential of SPECT Diamox imaging is limited as a result of degrading fractors such as finite detector resolution, attenuation, scatter, poor counting statistics, and methods of data analysis. Making physical measurements in phantoms filled with known amounts of radioactivity can help characterize and potentially quantify the sensitivities. However, it is often very difficult to make a realistic phantom simulating patients in clinical situations. By computer simulation, we studied the sensitivities of ECD SPECT before and after Diamox administration. The sensitivity is defined as ($\Delta$N/N)/($\Delta$S/S)$\times$100%, where $\Delta$N denotes the differences in mean counts between post-and pre-Diamox in the measured data, N denotes the mean counts before Diamox in the measure data, $\Delta$S denotes the differences in mean counts between post-and pre-Diamox in the model, and S denotes the mean counts before Diamox in the model. In clinical Diamox studies, the percentage changes of radioactivity could be determined to measure changes in radioactivity concentration by Diamox after subtracting pre-from post-Diamox data. However, the optimal amount of subtraction for 100% sensitivity is not known since this requires a thorough sensitivity analysis by computer simulation. For consecutive brain SPECT imaging model before and after Diamox, when 30% increased radioactivity concentrations were assingned for Diamox effect in model, the sensitivities were measured as 51.03, 73.4, 94.00, 130.74% for 0, 100, 150, 200% subtraction, respectively. Sensitivity analysis indicated that the partial voluming effects due to finite detector resolution and statistical noise result in a significant underestimation of radioactivity measurements and the amount of underestimation depends on the. % increase of radioactivity concentration and % subtraction of pre-from post-Diamox data. The 150% subtraction appears to be optimal in clinical situations where we expect approximately 30% changes in radioactivity concentration. The computer simulation may be a powerful technique to study sensitivities of ECD SPECT before and after Diamox administration.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish optimal imaging acquisition conditions for the GE $Advance^{TM}$ PET imaging system by performing the acceptance tests designed by National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) protocol and General Electric Medical Systems (GEMS) test procedures. Materials and Methods: Performance tests were carried out with $^{18}FDG$ radioactivity source and phantoms by using a standard acquisition mode. Transaxial resolution and scatter traction tests were performed with a line source and axial resolution with a point source, respectively. A cylindrical phantom made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was used to measure sensitivity, count rate losses and randoms, uniformity correction, and attenuation inserts were added to measure remaining tests. The test results were acquired in a diagnostic acquisition mode and analyzed mainly on high sensitivity mode. Results: Transaxial resolution and axial resolution were measured as average of 4.65 mm and 3.98 mm at 0 cm, and 6.02 mm and 6.71 mm at 20 cm on high sensitivity mode, respectively. Average scatter fraction was 9.87%, and sensitivity was $225.8kcps/{\mu}Ci/cc$ of trues. Activity at 50% deadtime was $4.6{\mu}Ci/cc$, and the error of count rate correction at that activity was from 1.49% to 3.83%. Average nonuniformity for total slice w3s 8.37%. The accuracy of scatter correction was -0.95%. The accuracies of attenuation correction were 5.68% for air, 0.04% for water and -6.51% for polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Conclusion: The results satisfied most acceptance criteria, indicating that the GE $Advance^{TM}$ PET system can be optimally used for clinical applications.
Purpose: For better PET imaging with accuracy the transmission scanning is inevitably required for attenuation correction. The attenuation is affected by condition of acquisition and patient position, consequently quantitative accuracy may be decreased in emission scan imaging. In this paper, the present study aims at providing the measurement for attenuation varying with the positions of the patient's arm in whole body PET/CT, further performing the comparative analysis over its SUV changes. Materials and Methods: NEMA 1994 PET phantom was filled with $^{18}F$-FDG and the concentration ratio of insert cylinder and background water fit to 4:1. Phantom images were acquired through emission scanning for 4min after conducting transmission scanning by using CT. In an attempt to acquire image at the state that the arm of the patient was positioned at the lower of ahead, image was acquired in away that two pieces of Teflon inserts were used additionally by fixing phantoms at both sides of phantom. The acquired imaged at a were reconstructed by applying the iterative reconstruction method (iteration: 2, subset: 28) as well as attenuation correction using the CT, and then VOI was drawn on each image plane so as to measure CT number and SUV and comparatively analyze axial uniformity (A.U=Standard deviation/Average SUV) of PET images. Results: It was found from the above phantom test that, when comparing two cases of whether Teflon insert was fixed or removed, the CT number of cylinder increased from -5.76 HU to 0 HU, while SUV decreased from 24.64 to 24.29 and A.U from 0.064 to 0.052. And the CT number of background water was identified to increase from -6.14 HU to -0.43 HU, whereas SUV decreased from 6.3 to 5.6 and A.U also decreased from 0.12 to 0.10. In addition, as for the patient image, CT number was verified to increase from 53.09 HU to 58.31 HU and SUV decreased from 24.96 to 21.81 when the patient's arm was positioned over the head rather than when it was lowered. Conclusion: When arms up protocol was applied, the SUV of phantom and patient image was decreased by 1.4% and 9.2% respectively. With the present study it was concluded that in case of PET/CT scanning against the whole body of a patient the position of patient's arm was not so much significant. Especially, the scanning under the condition that the arm is raised over to the head gives rise to more probability that the patient is likely to move due to long scanning time that causes the increase of uptake of $^{18}F$-FDG of brown fat at the shoulder part together with increased pain imposing to the shoulder and discomfort to a patient. As regarding consideration all of such factors, it could be rationally drawn that PET/CT scanning could be made with the arm of the subject lowered.
