Human-object interaction(HOI) detection requires both object detection and interaction recognition, and requires a large amount of data to learn a detection model. Current opened dataset is insufficient in scale for training model enough. In this paper, we propose an easy and effective data augmentation method called Simple Quattro Augmentation(SQA) and Random Quattro Augmentation(RQA) for human-object interaction detection. We show that our proposed method can be easily integrated into State-of-the-Art HOI detection models with HICO-DET dataset.
Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformation of the spine that is a deformity induced by physical or disease-related causes as the spine is rotated abnormally. Early detection has a significant influence on the possibility of nonsurgical treatment. To train a deep learning model with preprocessed images and to evaluate the results with and without data augmentation to enable the diagnosis of scoliosis based only on a chest X-ray image. The preprocessed images in which only the spine, rib contours, and some hard tissues were left from the original chest image, were used for learning along with the original images, and three CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks) models (VGG16, ResNet152, and EfficientNet) were selected to proceed with training. The results obtained by training with the preprocessed images showed a superior accuracy to those obtained by training with the original image. When the scoliosis image was added through data augmentation, the accuracy was further improved, ultimately achieving a classification accuracy of 93.56% with the ResNet152 model using test data. Through supplementation with future research, the method proposed herein is expected to allow the early diagnosis of scoliosis as well as cost reduction by reducing the burden of additional radiographic imaging for disease detection.

Recently, computer vision field based deep learning artificial intelligence has become a hot topic among various image analysis boundaries. In this study, flames are detected in fire images using the Faster R-CNN algorithm, which is used to detect objects within the image, among various image recognition algorithms based on deep learning. In order to improve fire detection accuracy through a small amount of data sets in the learning process, we use image augmentation techniques, and learn image augmentation by dividing into 6 types and compare accuracy, precision and detection rate. As a result, the detection rate increases as the type of image augmentation increases. However, as with the general accuracy and detection rate of other object detection models, the false detection rate is also increased from 10% to 30%.
This paper is a study on data augmentation for small dataset by using deep learning. In case of training a deep learning model for recognition and classification of non-mainstream objects, there is a limit to obtaining a large amount of training data. Therefore, this paper proposes a data augmentation method using perspective transform and image synthesis. In addition, it is necessary to save the object area for all training data to detect the object area. Thus, we devised a way to augment the data and save object regions at the same time. To verify the performance of the augmented data using the proposed method, an experiment was conducted to compare classification accuracy with the augmented data by the traditional method, and transfer learning was used in model learning. As experimental results, the model trained using the proposed method showed higher accuracy than the model trained using the traditional method.
In Korean medicine, tongue diagnosis is one of the important diagnostic methods for diagnosing abnormalities in the body. Representative features that are used in the tongue diagnosis include color, shape, texture, cracks, and tooth marks. When diagnosing a patient through these features, the diagnosis criteria may be different for each oriental medical doctor, and even the same person may have different diagnosis results depending on time and work environment. In order to overcome this problem, recent studies to automate and standardize tongue diagnosis using machine learning are continuing and the basic process of such a machine learning-based tongue diagnosis system is tongue segmentation. In this paper, image data is augmented based on the main tongue features, and backbones of various famous deep learning architecture models are used for automatic tongue segmentation. The experimental results show that the proposed augmentation technique improves the accuracy of tongue segmentation, and that automatic tongue segmentation can be performed with a high accuracy of 99.12%.
In everyday life, recognizing people's emotions from their frames is essential and is a popular research domain in the area of computer vision. Visual emotion has a severe class imbalance in which most of the data are distributed in specific categories. The existing methods do not consider class imbalance and used accuracy as the performance metric, which is not suitable for evaluating the performance of the imbalanced dataset. Therefore, we proposed a method for recognizing visual emotion using balanced data augmentation to address the class imbalance. The proposed method generates a balanced dataset by adopting the random over-sampling and image transformation methods. Also, the proposed method uses the Focal loss as a loss function, which can mitigate the class imbalance by down weighting the well-classified samples. EfficientNet, which is the state-of-the-art method for image classification is used to recognize visual emotion. We compare the performance of the proposed method with that of conventional methods by using a public dataset. The experimental results show that the proposed method increases the F1 score by 40% compared with the method without data augmentation, mitigating class imbalance without loss of classification accuracy.
This paper proposed a method of validation data augmentation for improving the grading accuracy of diabetic macular edema (DME) using deep learning. The data augmentation technique is basically applied in order to secure diversity of data by transforming one image to several images through random translation, rotation, scaling and reflection in preparation of input data of the deep neural network (DNN). In this paper, we apply this technique in the validation process of the trained DNN, and improve the grading accuracy by combining the classification results of the augmented images. To verify the effectiveness, 1,200 retinal images of Messidor dataset was divided into training and validation data at the ratio 7:3. By applying random augmentation to 359 validation data, $1.61{\pm}0.55%$ accuracy improvement was achieved in the case of six times augmentation (N=6). This simple method has shown that the accuracy can be improved in the N range from 2 to 6 with the correlation coefficient of 0.5667. Therefore, it is expected to help improve the diagnostic accuracy of DME with the grading information provided by the proposed DNN.

In this paper, we present a data augmentation method that generates synthetic plant disease images using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). We propose a training scheme that first uses classical data augmentation techniques to enlarge the training set and then further enlarges the data size and its diversity by applying GAN techniques for synthetic data augmentation. Our method is demonstrated on a limited dataset of 2789 images of tomato plant diseases (Gray mold, Canker, Leaf mold, Plague, Leaf miner, Whitefly etc.).

In recent years, as the range of human activities has increased, the introduction of alien species has become frequent. Among them, raccoons have been designated as harmful animals since 2020. Raccoons are similar in size and shape to raccoon dogs, so they generally need to be distinguished in capturing them. To solve this problem, we use VGG19, ResNet152V2, InceptionV3, InceptionResNet and NASNet, which are CNN deep learning models specialized for image classification. The parameters to be used for learning are pre-trained with a large amount of data, ImageNet. In order to classify the raccoon and raccoon dog datasets as outward features of animals, the image was converted to grayscale and brightness was normalized. Augmentation methods were applied using left and right inversion, rotation, scaling, and shift to create sufficient data for transfer learning. The FCL consists of 1 layer for the non-augmented dataset while 4 layers for the augmented dataset. Comparing the accuracy of various augmented datasets, the performance increased as more augmentation methods were applied.

In recent research, deep learning-based methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in various computer vision tasks. However, these methods are commonly supervised, and require huge amounts of annotated data to train. Acquisition of data demands an additional costly effort, particularly for the tasks where it becomes challenging to obtain large amounts of data considering the time constraints and the requirement of professional human diligence. In this paper, we present a data level synthetic sampling solution to learn from small and imbalanced data sets using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). The reason for using GANs are the challenges posed in various fields to manage with the small datasets and fluctuating amounts of samples per class. As a result, we present an approach that can improve learning with respect to data distributions, reducing the partiality introduced by class imbalance and hence shifting the classification decision boundary towards more accurate results. Our novel method is demonstrated on a small dataset of 2789 tomato plant disease images, highly corrupted with class imbalance in 9 disease categories. Moreover, we evaluate our results in terms of different metrics and compare the quality of these results for distinct classes.
