  • Bilateral filter (BF), functioning by two Gaussian filters, domain and range filter is a nonlinear filter for sharpness enhancement and noise removal. In infrared (IR) small target detection field, the BF is designed by background predictor for predicting background not including small target. For this, the standard deviations of the two Gaussian filters need to be changed adaptively in background and target region of an infrared image. In this paper, the proposed bilateral filter make the standard deviations changed adaptively, using variance feature of mean values of surrounding block neighboring local filter window. And, in case the variance of mean values for surrounding blocks is low for any processed pixel, the pixel is classified to flat background and target region for enhancing background prediction. On the other hand, any pixel with high variance for surrounding blocks is classified to edge region. Small target can be detected by subtracting predicted background from original image. In experimental results, we confirmed that the proposed bilateral filter has superior target detection rate, compared with existing methods.

  • According to the recent advances of digital encoding technologies and computing power, large amounts of multimedia informations such as image, graphic, audio and video are fully used in multimedia systems through Internet. By this, diverse retrieval mechanisms are required for users to search dedicated informations stored in multimedia systems, and especially it is preferred to use contents-based retrieval method rather than text-type keyword retrieval method. In this paper, we propose a new contents-based indexing and searching algorithm which aims to get both high efficiency and high retrieval performance. To achieve these objectives, firstly the proposed algorithm classifies images by a pre-processing process of edge extraction, range division, and multiple filtering, and secondly it searches the target images using spatial and textural characteristics of colors, which are extracted from the previous process, in a image. In addition, we describe the simulation results of search requests and retrieval outputs for several images of company's trade-mark using the proposed contents-based retrieval algorithm based on wavelet.

  • This paper presents an autonomous detection and aiming point computation of a battle tank by using RGB images. Maximally stable extremal regions algorithm was implemented to find features of the tank, which are matched with images extracted from streaming video to figure out the region of interest where the tank is present. The median filter was applied to remove noises in the region of interest and decrease camouflage effects of the tank. For the tank segmentation, k-mean clustering was used to autonomously distinguish the tank from its background. Also, both erosion and dilation algorithms of morphology techniques were applied to extract the tank shape without noises and generate the binary image with 1 for the tank and 0 for the background. After that, Sobel's edge detection was used to measure the outline of the tank by which the aiming point at the center of the tank was calculated. For performance measurement, accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure were analyzed by confusion matrix, resulting in 91.6%, 90.4%, 85.8%, and 88.1%, respectively.

  • In this paper we proposed the block-based color image segmentation method using the cylindrical metric to solve the problems such as long processing time and over segmentation due to noise and texture properties in the conventional methods. In the proposed method we define the new similarity function and the merge condition between regions to merge initial regions with the same size considering the color and texture properties of chromatic and achromatic regions which is defined according to the HSI color values, and we continue to merge boundary blocks into the adjacent region already segmented to maintain edges until the size of block is one. In the simulation results the proposed method is better than the conventional methods in the evaluation of the segmented regions of texture and edge region, and we found that the processing time is decreased by factor of two in the proposed method.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the visual element of the label design image of premium lunch boxes and general lunch boxes on purchasing intention. As a method of research, the label design images and purchase intentions of premium lunch boxes and general lunch boxes from the nation's leading convenience store brands, Seven Eleven, GS25, and CU, were investigated through a survey, T-verification was conducted based on the measured average value and standard deviation was completed after analysis with SPSS 21. The results of the study showed that the label design of premium lunch boxes was recognized by consumers as a premium image that was a point of differentiation from general lunch boxes, and that the proportion of "quality" and "menu composition" was high, This indicates that convenience store premium lunch boxes could also offer consumers a competitive edge in value that is considered premium other than "price."

  • A theory of binary wavelets which are performed over binary field has been recently proposed. Binary wavelet transform (BWT) of binary images can be used as an alternative to the real-valued wavelet transform of binary images in image processing applications such as compression, edge detection, and recognition. The BWT, however, requires large amount of computations for binary wavelet reconstruction since its operation is accomplished by matrix multiplication. In this paper, an efficient binary wavelet reconstruction method which utilizes filtering operation instead of matrix multiplication is presented. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the computational complexity of the BWT. For the reconstruction of an $N{\times}N$ image, the proposed technique requires only $2MN^2$ multiplications and $2N(M-1)^2$ additions when the filter length M, while the BWT needs $2N^3$ multiplications and $2N(N-1)^2$ additions.

  • In this paper we proposed the watermarking technique using the markspace which is selected by tree-structure between the subbands in the wavelet domain and feature information in the spatial domain. The watermarking candidate region in the wavelet domain is obtained by the markspace selection algorithm divides the highest frequency subband to several segments and calculates theirs energy and the averages value of the total energy of the subband. Also the markspace of the spatial domain is obtained by the boundary information of a image. The final markspace is selected by the markspaces of the wavelet and spatial domain. The watermark is embedded into the selected markspace using the random addresses by LFSR. Finally the watermarking image is generated using the inverse wavelet transform. The proposed watermarking algorithm shows the robustness against the attacks such as JPEG, blurring, sharpening, and gaussian noise.

  • In this paper, a new unsupervised image segmentation algorithm is proposed. To model the contextual information presented in images, the characteristics of the Markov random fields (MRF) are utilized. Textured images are modeled as realizations of the stationary Gaussian MRF on a two-dimensional square lattice using the conditional autoregressive (CAR) equations with a second-order noncausal neighborhood. To detect boundaries, hypothesis tests over two masked areas are performed. Under the hypothesis, masked areas are assumed to belong to the same class of textures and CAR equation parameters are estimated in a minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) sense. If the hypothesis is rejected, a measure of dissimilarity between two areas is accumulated on the rejected area. This approach produces potential edge maps. Using these maps, boundary detection can be performed, which resulting no micro edges. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by some experiments using real images as weB as synthetic ones. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can produce satisfactorY segmentation without any a priori information.

  • We propose a technique to protect digital images using the magnitude and orientation of their edges. The proposed technique uses the content-associated copyright message generated by combining the original copyright message with the magnitude and orientation of some edges of a digital image. It enables the distribution of the original copyright message without any distortion of original digital images by avoiding embedment of the original copyright message into images. In addition to the advantage in the image quality, it also has a relatively low computational complexity by using simple operations to generate the content-associated copyright message. To verify the proposed technique, we performed experiments on its robustness to the external attacks such as histogram equalization, median filtering, rotation, and cropping. Experimental results on restoring the copyright message from images distorted by attacks show that more than 90%, on the average, can be recovered.
