  • Disparity space image (DSI) technique is a method of establishing correspondence between a pair of images. It has a merit of generating a dense disparity map for each pixel. DSI has a cost function to be minimized, and it needs empirical weighting factors for occlusion penalty and match reward. This paper provides theoretical basis for the weighting factors, which depend on image noise and contrast between an object and background.

  • This paper reports a localization method of a mobile robot using ceiling image. The ceiling has landmarks which are not distinguishablefrom one another. The location of every landmark in a map is given a priori while correspondence is not given between a detected landmark and a landmark in the map. Only the initial pose of the robot relative to the landmarks is given. The method uses particle filter approach for localization. Along with estimating robot pose, the method also associates a landmark in the map to a landmark detected from the ceiling image. The method is tested in an indoor environment which has circular landmarks on the ceiling. The test verifies the feasibility of the method in an environment where range data to walls or to beacons are not available or severely corrupted with noise. This method is useful for localization in a warehouse where measurement by Laser range finder and range data to beacons of RF or ultrasonic signal have large uncertainty.

  • This paper presents an efficient approach to build an image mosaics from image sequences. Unlike general panoramic stitching methods, which usually require some geometrical feature points or solve the iterative nonlinear equations, our algorithm can directly recover the 8-parameter planar perspective transforms. We use four quasi-feature points in order to compute the projective transform between two images. This feature is based on the graylevel distribution and defined in the overlap area between two images. Therefore the proposed algorithm can reduce the total amount of the computation. We also present an algorithm lot efficiently matching the correspondence of the extracted feature. The proposed algorithm is applied to various images to estimate its performance and. the simulation results present that our algorithm can find the correct correspondence and build an image mosaics.

  • We propose a method for 3-dimensionally reconstructing an object using a line that includes the midpoint information from a single image. A pre-defined polygon is used as the primitive and the recovery is processed from a single image. The 3D reconstruction is processed by mapping the correspondence point of the primitive model onto the photo. In the recent work, the reconstructions of camera parameters or error minimizing methods through iterations were used for model-based 3D reconstruction. However, we proposed a method for the 3D reconstruction of primitive that consists of the segments and the center points of the segments for the reconstruction process. This method enables the reconstruction of the primitive model to be processed using only the focal length of various camera parameters during the segment reconstruction process.

  • A new method for the determination of camera system rotation and translation from in 3-D space using recursive least square method is presented in this paper. With this method, the calculation of the equation is found by a linear algorithm. Where the equation are either given or be obtained by solving five or more point correspondences. Good results can be obtained in the presence if more than the eight point. A main advantage of this new method is that it decouple rotation and translation, and then reduces computation. With respect to error in the solution point number in the input image data, adding one more feature correspondence to required minimum number improves the solution accuracy drastically. However, further increase in the number of feature correspondence improve the solution accuracy only slowly. The algorithm proposed by this paper is used to make camera system rotation and translation easy to recognize even when camera system attached at end effecter of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator are applied industrial field.

  • Image registration is concerned with the establishment of correspondence between images of the same scene with translational, rotational, and scaling differences. The estimated transformation parameters between images are very important information in the field of many applications. In this paper, we propose a shape matching scheme for finding correspondence points for images with various differences, Tranditional solutions to this area are unreliable for the rotational and schaling changes between images, and the feature extraction of partially occluded scene. To solve those problems, dominant points on digital curves are detected by scale-space filtering, and initial matching is performed by similarity measure of cumulative curvatures for dominant points. For initial matching segments pairs, optimal matching points are calculated using dynamic programming. Finally, transformation parameters are estimated.

  • This paper presents a new approach for underwater image analysis using the bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) technique and the phase congruency information. The BEMD algorithm, fully unsupervised, it is mainly applied to texture extraction and image filtering, which are widely recognized as a difficult and challenging machine vision problem. The phase information is the very stability feature of image. Recent developments in analysis methods on the phase congruency information have received large attention by the image researchers. In this paper, the proposed method is called the EP model that inherits the advantages of the first two algorithms, so this model is suitable for processing underwater image. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is presented in this paper to solve the problem that the threshold is greatly affected by personal experience when underwater image edge detection is performed using the EP model. The EP images are computed using combinations of the Canny detector parameters, and the binaryzation image results are generated accordingly. The ideal EP edge feature extractive maps are estimated using correspondence threshold which is optimized by ROC analysis. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is able to avoid the operation error caused by manual setting of the detection threshold, and to adaptively set the image feature detection threshold. The proposed method has been proved to be accuracy and effectiveness by the underwater image processing examples.

  • It constitutes a very important preliminary step to analyze how city image is assessed in order to determine the direction towards a desirable city image in planning on an urban landscape for future city image. This study aims to quantify the recognition and evaluation of a city image on the part of citizens, using multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis. Furthermore, this study hopes to contribute to the quantified policy-making for improving city image by understanding how professionals and civil servants in the related field tend to recognize such image. The results from the study are as follow: 1. The image of Daejon City tends to be assessed strongly in the light of its history, dynamics, and size. While the City is recognized as new and changing in general, the civil servants consider the city as modest, and the professionals as mediocre. Therefore, the City should strive to conceive its own unique identity, which would lessen the current image of modest and mediocre. 2. Gap river, Dunsan New Town, and the Daeduk Reseach Complex turn out to be the symbolic representative venues of Daejon City, inspiring the city’s image. In contrast, Yoosung Springs, the original town, and the Expo Park do not fit the image of the City. The need to renovate these places presents itself. 3. As for the questions using “like” and “not-like”, citizens and professionals show the tendency of not liking the city’s image, whereas civil servants like it. It follows that the City needs to highlight its “modern and high-technological” image, illuminated by Dunsan New Town and Daeduk Reseach Complex. 4. An image positioning drawn from a correspondence analysis shows that the City of Daejeon can be classified as an administrative and horizontal city. As opposed to the prior simplistic analyses of city image, this study attempts to diagnose it accurately, so as to help with the gearing towards city images in the future.

  • The automatic construction of large, high-resolution image mosaics is an active area of reasearch in the fields of photogrammetry, computer vision, image processing, and computer graphics. In this study, we describe a automatic mosaicing method that makes a panorama from images by placing camera in a emitted-grid. In the images captured by cameras, there must be a matched area and the area is in the particular area of the image. Initial transformation matrix, there(ore, is calculated from points searched in the partial area. It is possible to find best transformation matrix by Levenberg-Marquardt method. Finally, each images are multiplied by blending function and stitched by the transformation matrix to complete panoramic image.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient reference-based compression artifact reduction network for 360-degree images in an equi-rectangular projection (ERP) domain. In our insight, conventional image restoration methods cannot be applied straightforwardly to 360-degree images due to the spherical distortion. To address this problem, we propose an adaptive disparity estimator using a deformable convolution to exploit correlation among 360-degree images. With the help of the proposed convolution, the disparity estimator establishes the spatial correspondence successfully between the ERPs and extract matched textures to be used for image restoration. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides reliable high-quality textures from the reference and improves the quality of the restored image as compared to the state-of-the-art single image restoration methods.
