리티 판 감독의 2015년 작 다큐멘터리 <우리의 모국 프랑스 La France est notre patrie>는 시각적 구성에 있어 아카이브 이미지와 무성영화에서 차용한 인터타이틀을 사용하고, 청각적으로는 음악과 효과음을 주로 한 외재적 음향에 기대고 있는 파운드 풋티지 영화이다. 감독은 프랑스 식민지배하에 놓인 동남아시아와 아프리카 지역에서 19세기 말부터 20세기 초기 영화역사와도 궤적을 같이하는 시기에 촬영된 이미지를 발굴하여 재구성한다. 본 논문은 캄보디아 크메르 루주 대학살의 생존자인 감독의 기억과 역사 인식이 아카이브를 통해 영화와 맺는 실천적 관계를 고찰한다. 또한 벤야민의 역사적 몽타주와 변증법적 이미지 개념을 적용하고, 무엇보다 영화가 제시하는 중층적 시점에 주목하여 <우리의 모국 프랑스>가 구현하는 역사서술 방법을 분석한다. 이를 통해 이 영화의 구성적 특이성이 어떻게 자기반영성에 충실한 에세이 영화를 추동하며, 대항기억의 담론을 일으켜 메타역사로서 관객을 복합적 사유의 문턱으로 인도하는가 밝히고자 한다.

As the compact and easily accessible handheld devices, such as cellular phones and MP3 players equipped with image acquisition functionality, are becoming widely available among common users, various applications of images are rapidly increasing. Image related services and software such as web-based image presentation and image manipulation for personal or commercial purpose enable users to view contents of remote image archive and to manipulate enormous amount of images in local or network based storage as well. It is necessary for users to identify the images efficiently so that the same images are perceived as one physical entity instead of recognizing them as different images as the trends are getting stronger. In order to support this environment, we propose a method that generates image identifiers or indexing for images within a solid and efficient manner. The proposed image identifier utilizes multiple index values. The integration of component index values creates a unique composite value that can be used as a file name, file system identifier, or database index. Our experimental results on generation of constituent index values have shown favorable results.

It is common for archive libraries to provide public access to historical and ancient document image collections. It is common for such document images to require specialized processing in order to remove background noise and become more legible. Document images may be contaminated with noise during transmission, scanning or conversion to digital form. We can categorize noises by identifying their features and can search for similar patterns in a document image to choose appropriate methods for their removal. In this paper, we propose a hybrid binarization approach for improving the quality of old documents using a combination of global and local thresholding. This article also reviews noises that might appear in scanned document images and discusses some noise removal methods.

최근 전 세계적으로 주목을 받고 있는 빅 데이터로 인해 기억과 망각의 갈림길에서 개별적으로 구축되는 디지털 아카이브의 위상과 가치가 흔들리고 있다. 그것은 시대의 문화 예술 생활 사회 세태 등을 표현한 국민공통의 문화유산이며 잡지, 서적, 그림, 사진, 필름 등 다양한 매체들과 함께 역사의 흔적을 기록하고 보존한다. 그러나 디지털 아카이브 시스템은 최근 디지털화와 네트워크화로 인해 문화와 첨단미디어공학이 결합된 융합학문의 결정체로 문화적 자산을 대중에게 제공하는 새로운 가능성을 열 수 있는 좋은 기회를 갖게 되기도 한다. 본 고는 보존이냐 개방이냐라는 이 같은 양립성에 놓인 영상아카이브의 과도기적 위상을 조명하며 빅데이터를 맞는 그것의 역할과 미래적 상관관계를 고려하면서 문화적 기억을 보존하여 현재화하면서도 어떻게 개방적으로 응용할 수 있을지 주목하였다. 결론적으로는 그 어떤 것도 포기할 수 없고 제한할 수 없기 때문에 두 가지 방향을 모두 고려하면서 적절한 균형을 유지하는 것이 관건이며, 이를 위해서는 여러가지 장래의 노력들이 필요함을 역설하였다.

본 연구에서는 의료영상 저장 및 전송 시스템에 필수적인 무손실 의료영상 압축 기법을 제안하였다. 의료영상은 방사선 영상 중에서 유방영상(mammography)과 자기공명영상을 사용하였으며, 이들 영상을 무손실로 압축하기 위하여 영역성장에 의한 영상분할 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리듬은 원 영상이 에러 영상과 불연속 계수 영상, 그리고 상위 비트 데이터 등 세 가지의 부 영역으로 분할되도록 하였다. 그리고 영역성장 과정 후 생성된 불연속 계수 영상 데이터와 에러 영상을 국제 이진영상압축 표준이며 그레이코드(graycode)화된 영상의 압축에 적합한 JBIG(Joint Bi-level Image expert Group) 알고리듬을 이용하여 압축시켰다. 제안한 알고리듬과 타 연구에서 사용된 기법들을 비교 검토 한 결과 제안한 무손실 압축 기법을 적용하여 얻어지는 압축율은 JBIG, JPEG, LZ 기법에 비해 평균적으로 각각 3.7%, 7.9%, 23.6% 정도 개선됨을 알 수 있었다.

At Kyoto University, a continuous solar full-disk observation in CaII K line had been done during 44 years of 1926 - 1969. The observation was done with a Askania spectroheliograph on daily base. The images were taken on photographic plates. We started a project to archive these image data into a digital database which will be open to the public for scientific researches. One of the scientific usage of the database is to study the long term variation of the solar chromospheres. Since the area of CaII K plage area is a measure of solar chromospheric heating, we can do comparative study of the sunspot cycle and the chromospheric heating cycle of the sun. Another interesting field of scientific utilization of the database is the long term variation of the heating of terrestrial upper atmosphere. As was shown by Yokoyama, Masuda and Sato (2005), the area of the CaII K plage is a good proxy measure of solar EUV irradiation onto the upper atmosphere of the earth. Thus the completion of our database will serve to supply a basic and long-span data for upper atmospheric heating issues by the cooperative study with the Inter-university Upper atmosphere Global Observation NETwork (IUGONET) developed in Japan.

본 연구는 이탈리아 파시즘시대의 건축가중 가장 중요한 건축가인 쥬세삐 떼라니의 대표작인 까자 델 파쇼작품을 분석한 것이다. 본 연구는 2002년 8월 1개월동안 현지조사를 통하여 지금까지의 연구의 한계를 벗어나기 위해서 꼬모에 있는 떼라니의 문서창고의 원본자료의 재조사를 기초로 하여 지금까지 미공개로 남아 있던 자료까지 분석하였다. 남아 있는 자료들중 이미 공개된 자료와 지금까지 미공개 자료를 분석하여 초기의 계획안에서부터 최종 시공된 계획안에 이르기까지 총망라한 분석을 통하여 결론적으로 이 계획안에 관한 건축가 떼라니의 기본적 접근 방법을 이해 할 수 있는 계기를 제공하였다. 분석의 결과는 다음과 같은 2개의 결론이 얻어졌다. 1) 초기 계획안에서 건립될 대지의 주변의 물리적 환경이 최후 완공된 건축물의 외형과 직접적인 상관성을 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 특히 인접한 꼬모 듀오모성당의 파사드와 물리적 형태 면에서 결정적인 연관을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 2)건축가는 계획안을 위해 형성한 이미지가 구체적인 물리적 형태로 표현된 과정을 조사해 보면, 비록 문서창고에 남겨진 자료의 순차적 발전 순서에 따른 분석은 불가능하였지만 초기 계획안에서 형성된 기본 개념적인 이미지는 수차에 걸쳐 변경된 계획안은 물론, 최종 시공된 건축물의 형태에도 결정적인 영향을 준 것을 알 수 있었다.

The fighter pilot uses radar mounted on the fighter to obtain high-resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images for a specific area of distance, and then the pilot visually classifies targets within the image. However, the target configuration captured in the SAR image is relatively small in size, and distortion of that type occurs depending on the depression angle, making it difficult for pilot to classify the type of target. Also, being present with various types of clutters, there should be errors in target classification and pilots should be even worse if tasks such as navigation and situational awareness are carried out simultaneously. In this paper, the concept of operation and functional structure of radar system for fighter jets were presented to transfer the SAR image target classification task of fighter pilots to radar system, and the method of target classification with high accuracy was studied using the CNN ensemble model to archive higher classification accuracy than single CNN model.

위성영상 운영은 주문접수, 촬영계획, 영상처리, 영상 배포의 과정으로 구분하며 촬영계획은 주문 접수 과정에서 전달된 신규 주문과 이미 진행 중인 주문을 바탕으로 한정된 위성자원을 최대한 활용하여 사용자의 촬영요청을 가능한 적절한 시기에 반영할 수 있도록 위성의 촬영계획을 수립하는 과정으로 위성 자원의 효율적인 활용이라는 취지와 가장 밀접한 관계를 갖는 과정에 해당한다. 촬영계획은 동시에 많은 변수를 고려해야 하기 때문에 연산량도 많은 편이며, 스케줄링을 수행할 때마다 동일한 과정을 반복적으로 수행해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 촬영계획의 효율성을 높이기 위해 촬영계획의 최적화 연구를 수행하였다. 먼저 촬영계획 수행과정과 제약조건을 정리하여 가능한 많이 촬영할 수 있도록 촬영계획 모형을 수립하고 그 모형을 해결하기 위해 휴리스틱 알고리즘을 제안하였다.

The high prices of satellite images prevent researchers from studying remote sensing and most non-professional people doesn't have the simple and easy solutions for the manipulation of satellite images. "Integrated Management of Satellite Imagery Information" project which will be promoted by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) will provide the solutions for the above mentioned problems. We will introduce the archiving center in this study. This includes the data construction, storage, management and distribution. We first review the background for this archiving center and introduce the interior and foreign institutes which archive and distribute satellite images. We review our H/W system and S/W system briefly. Finally, the further service of our project will be suggested. Since we will distribute the satellite images (Landsat, SPOT, JERS, Corona, Kompast-1) and will receive Landsat7 ETM+ in 2003 you, this will help the professional work dealing with the satellite image and attract the non-professional people for simple and easy manipulation solutions of satellite image.
